Manually add Training Load to activities for Fitness & Freshness graph

It would be very helpful to be able to add manual TSS estimates to rides. I live in a pretty brutal winter climate and don't risk bringing my crank-mounted power meter on some of the more snow-ridden, submerged, occasionally airborne training rides I do in the winter, so when I return from a 5 hour frostbitten epic I don't really have a good assessment of what the effect on my fatigue/fitness would be. It'd be handy to be able to punch in some kind of guess so I can better keep track of my fitness curves. Just a thought.

Thanks!

  • Yes!  The F&F graph is the most useful training feature that Strava has, but it quickly loses its usefulness once MTB season rolls around for me.  It is my main frustration with Strava because I feel like it could so easily be remedied.

  • Never seen a company so unresponsive to their customers needs and requests.  Pathetic.

  • Jim - I think many of the larger (especially technology) companies act like this - they seem to reach a critical size where they feel that we need them more than they need us. Hopefully some new upstart will come in and actually serve the customers. But then they will probably grow and so the cycle continues. Google are a possible exception to this.

  • has there been any progress on incorporating other activities to the fitness and freshness chart at all? based on heart rate.....

  • has there been any progress on incorporating other activities to the fitness and freshness chart? ?  for anyone that uses premium and invested in a power meter for a lot of workouts, the comprehensiveness of this chart is a priority. if i can't use it for all activities there is really no reason to have premium.

  • Just let your premium account expire.  There is has been no response to this request or others for years.

  • I was recently gifted an Up3 band, and was pleasantly surprised to see that it pulls data from Strava.

I was unpleasantly surprised to see that even though I now have complete access to my exercise, pulse, resting pulse, and sleep time....  that there's still no way to use this data to influence my strava F&F.

It seems we have an excellent opportunity to improve Strava, but apparently little is being done to exploit the opportunity.

I'd be more excited about my "premium" membership if I felt like the F&F were a more accurate portrayal of my life.  As it stands, I, and other folks who do activity other than cycle, don't get much value in the F&F, which is the nicest feature to the premium package.

  • Another vote for manual TSS/Sufferscore entry.

Signed up for premium based on access to the F&F graph and Sufferfest videos.
We no longer have Sufferfest, and the F&F graph is somewhat flawed without ability to estimate training load for workouts where we don't have access to the data.

  • This is really basic functionality for Fitness and Freshness to be useful. Not every workout is going to have HR or Power available and without every workout entered, Fitness and Freshness is wildly inaccurate to how fatigued your body really is.

  • totally agree, the chart is of little use if you can't record all your training

  • Please please please Strava! Without this feature the F&F chart is not useful as a training tool as it is too inaccurate.

  • Yes, please, I do not power meter but HR based suffer score helps me. Please, estimate suffer scores for swiming and running using rTSS and sTSS algorithm (which estimate TSS without power/HR)

  • Soooo....  going on 3 years and this simple feature hasn't been added yet? I haven't needed it until now, stage race with a dead power meter battery and couldn't find a replacement. But this lack of response to overwhelming community demand will see me cancelling my premium membership.

  • Add me to the list for this. I just did a 115 mile ride this past weekend, but I forgot my HR sensor, so it looks like a "rest day" on my fitness/freshness graph. There should be a way to manually put in an estimate for this value, which would be better than nothing at all.

Also, let me also say (again) that fitness/freshness really needs to have run activities included as well, not just cycling.

  • It would definitely be useful to be able to add for swimming & running also, this would make a real alternative to training peaks, for triathletes fitness / freshness is a novelty.

  • Yes please, just did a 2 days race and on the second day my heartrate monitor did not work and now it looks like I have had a rest day. It has effected my fitness bu about 5%. It should have gone up but went down.

  • Why is there such a delay on this? I'm seriously about to dump my premium service over this. Mostly the complete lack of response to what is obviously important to a lot of people.

  • I agree with the statements of others here. Failing to help the multi-sport users when you are already capturing the HR data as well as not even allowing people to manually enter a TSS for an activity makes the Fitness and Freshness graph garbage unless EVERY SINGLE activity you do is with a bike AND heart rate or power. For multiple years you have strung these people on with premium memberships and claimed that this was a 'multi-sport' website. So long Strava premium, moving to golden cheetah or training peaks.

  • 3 years of posts.  brutal.  I commute the same route most days and sometimes I have a power meter, sometimes not, but I know what the effort is, so why can't we get a stupid little entry field for estimated TSS?

  • We have been waiting years at this point for Strava to do something about this.  Unreal.  Let me offer a workaround for the folks still waiting. Go to a website call fitfiletools dot com.  It is freeware.  As long as you have the same or similar workout in your Garmin or other device's activities files, you can run a copy through the date stripper, change the date to the missing workout, and upload to Strava.  You are then extremely close to an accurate fitness/freshness number.

My Garmin choked on my last Sunday group ride and I didn't have a file to copy.  So now my fitness and freshness is off.  I can do the same ride this weekend, upload the original, and then use fitfilestools to backdate a copy to last weekend too.  Sounds complicated but it is easy as pie to use.

Given that this software has existed for FREE for years, why in the actual f8ck hasn't Strava added some version of it for its paying, premium users?  Strava ARE YOU LISTENING?!!!

  • Strava. Please add this functionality! I can't stand having rides that don't count due to dead or malfunctioning power meters/hrm.

  • In fairness to Strava - before criticising think how it should be implemented.  I (and others) are managing to get around this issue by duplicating a ride similar to the one that we lost.
They could just enable people to input a suffer score I guess but the best way of working that out is from a comparable ride (or portion of a ride by editing the start end points).  The downside is you have a "phantom" ride on the books the upside is that if the "phantom" ride is close to the ride you lost then all your other stats are restored too (distance, height gain, ride time etc.)

I think the work around is almost the correct way to do it.

I bigger sports science issue is that cross training (e.g. swimming or running) isn't possible to calculate or enter.

  • Just adding my name to the list of users that want this feature. Strava's fitness/freshness is utterly useless without it which is a shame. I just want the option to key in a TSS score when I upload a ride with no power. Seems simple enough to me.
