Attach a Route (map) when entering a 'Manual Entry'

It is really frustrating when a device destroys your data!!! In my case an 18 hour ride and nothing to show for it.

What do we do .. only solution at the moment is to add a Manual Entry.

Currently there is no image of the route taken when adding a 'Manual Entry'.

If we could import a route (gpx or  select one of 'My Routes') it would greatly enhance the entry.

Note: no time data would be available from the file ... that is expected.

  • This is very frustrating! Why did you remove the Manual Entry - Add Route feature for Android??

Unless I'm shooting for a new PR, I don't really need to record my commutes because it is almost always the same speed on the same route.

Do Premium users lose this function? Why did I buy a full year.

    Horse shit.

  • I'm sure I used to be able to do this but can't find it any more.

Can we have an update from Strava please?

  • Hey Strava using friends. I had to re-figure out how to manually add/post a route today. I did a hike but pressed pause immediately and didnt realize it until the end. But I wanted it to be in my history! If you're interested the steps are:

1: go to STRAVA on a desktop device and go to DASHBOARD>MY ROUTES
    (https://www.strava.com/athlete/routes)

2: Create your route by adding dots along the map.
    3: Save it.
4:Download it as a GPX file.

5: Add speed and time stamps to the file by uploading it here: https://gotoes.org/strava/Add_Timestamps_To_GPX.php

6: Download it again with the new data

7: Upload it to your account here: https://www.strava.com/upload/select

    Hope this helps

  • I would love this option to be available. I lost a 100km ride yesterday from my Garmin. I would have liked to be able to import a GPX file into my manual entry in Strava just so I can at least see a map with the route I took.

  • I can't seem to find HOW to add a "Manual Entry".  On my phone? on my computer?  I can't find any links on how to do actually do it.

  • Vicky, thanks for the update. Glad after 2 years Strava is going to "consider it".

  • I'm incredulous that after 2 years of people asking, Strava still has no way to select one of "My Routes" into "Manual Entry". I just climbed Mont Ventoux today (very proud of over 1800m of climbing!), and the phone died on the way. I get to manually enter a "ride" of 56 km, without any indication of elevation. A bit disappointed.

thanks for having little imagination, Strava.

  • there is a hack to get a previously completed ride into strava. it works for me since my rides to work tend to be the same route and speed.

to get the ride uploaded -

    1. download a ride you can copy from your feed

    2. load that file to a conversion tool such as http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/ selecting the 'plain text table' as the output

    3. open the new text file in any text editor and change the date field to the date you want and save

    4. upload the file to http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert_input selecting GPX as the output type

    5. download the converted file and upload to strava

you should see the same route with the new date. hope this helps.

PS - just keep that file handy and change dates as you need

  • Elle,

After 3 years it is great to hear that "Attach a Route (map) when entering a 'Manual Entry'" is officially being reviewed by Strava as a potential project.

I still occasionally get a GPS device killing my data so a route map as a manual entry will solve this. Also Strava is currently loosing all of my commute data as I am not interested in switching on a GPS device for commute rides but would add them if I could attach a Route (map) when entering a Manual Entry.

    regards

    Thomas

  • The email updates to this thread have become a reassuring part of my life. I think I might be a bit sad if the feature is implemented and I stop receiving them. Maybe we could have a Strava Club dedicated to manual entry rides? T-shirts?

  • Please add this feature!

  • I've found a solution that works for me, allthough it's a lot of hassle - and you'll need a PC:

    1. Create the route you've done in Strava Route Builder and save the route. (I guess you could use other tools as well, if you prefer for example Ride With GPS.)

    2. Export the route to a GPX file and save it on your computer. So far, so good. The only problem now, is that you can't upload this file to Strava because it's missing time stamps, amongst other things. Therefore;

    3. Go to http://gotoes.org/strava/Add_Timestamps_To_GPX.php and upload the file with the correct time stamps and so on. I think it's a good idea to check all checkboxes, especially the one that says "Convert a Route to a Track (MANDATORY for STRAVA uploads)" and choose GPX format. At least, that's what I did, and it worked.

    4. From the same webpage, download the activity to your PC and you should be able to upload it in Strava. Voila!  Alternatively use the "Send to Strava" function.

  • I would like to see this feature also, I commute to work several times a week so I have a lot of rides which are the same route. Would be nice just to use the saved map I already have on Strava when I don't use my bike computer. I upload all my info from my computer either at home or work so I would really like to see this for PC

  • Why, after 4 years since the idea of adding a "Select Route" feature, which seems rather fundamental anyways, is this still not an option?

Also, why can't I edit my map or time or anything if the GPS messes up during the ride? The edit feature and ability to manually enter rides is about as primitive as it gets.

  • Yeah, they have removed the feature in the new update on Android, wish had not updated the app.

  • Strava users have been asking for this feature for years but they don't give a damn.  If they added it to the paid members features they might actually get more to subscribe but until they do I wont be paying anything.

  • Downgrade to version 75.0 (Android) or earlier to get the feature back! So stupid of them to remove such essential thing, why on Earth would we use the route without it?

  • Thank you Angie December 30, 2019 19:01 - this solution works very well. I, like thousands of others have gone out with a GPS device that has run out of juice during a run/ride and have lost part or all of an activity. I really can't understand why Strava have not implemented this feature since others have clearly been able to do it.

  • Makes zero sense to not have this feature. You have a manual mapping tool, and a manual entry tool. Any DEV could easily add a drop down to the manual entry form so you can pick your saved route, enter a date and a time for your outing and hit save. Super simple, this feature has been asked for since 2014, there are dozens of help center requests for it, seems like a major fail here...

  • Very frustrating. People want to see the routes you do in the feed, not just the time and distance. Maybe this will get their attention: Hey Strava! MAPMYRUN HAS HAD THE "ADD ROUTE" FEATURE FOR YEARS!

  • Agree I haven't got a gps device but riding to and from the office daily.
I manually entered my routes and just need to be able to select a route when entering a manual activity.

Give us a 'select route' drop down with an option to select 'other' and it'll be awesome! :)

  • Really need that feature, 'cause I've been using MapMyRide during my last cycling trip in Mexico, and my iPhone app stopped recording my route almost one day out of three.

The Strava app doesn't seem to act that way. But I would like to recreate my past rides since January 1st, creating manual activities and binding routes to them (don't need the splits, just the elevation profile).

    Thanks!

  • This tool would be amazing. I've lost 5 of my 1st 7 rides and runs to GPS malfunctions.

  • What is the point of the route builder if it can't be used for navigation or manual entry of rides?

  • Strava,

This is making a bit of a mockery of your feedback process. Since I requested this months ago I have have had a constant stream of updates seeing others asking for the same thing.

Can we have an update on when/if this will be added. Its beginning to feel like you may as well not bother asking what we think !

  • To all those looking for this 'Attach a route to a manual entry' feature, if you are not aware, there has been a small progression in that Strava Labs has recently released http://labs.strava.com/gpx-to-route which allows uploading of a gpx to a route. While we are requesting a different enhancement to this, it is good to see progress in a related area.

  • I agree, it's not safe where I live to run with a phone so I only add manual entries.

I'd really like to be able to attach route into from My Routes!
