Attach a Route (map) when entering a 'Manual Entry'

It is really frustrating when a device destroys your data!!! In my case an 18 hour ride and nothing to show for it.

What do we do .. only solution at the moment is to add a Manual Entry.

Currently there is no image of the route taken when adding a 'Manual Entry'.

If we could import a route (gpx or  select one of 'My Routes') it would greatly enhance the entry.

Note: no time data would be available from the file ... that is expected.

  • I agree. It would be nice to be able to insert one of  "My Routes" maps when adding a manual entry.

Note: no time data would be available from the file ... that is expected.

  • I just spent the last 2 hours creating my favorite running routes in order to be able to add them to manual entries only to discover this community post that was started over two years ago and still nothing has come from it! Not everyone can afford the latest GPS connected watch or wants to carry their phone with them when running. For me running is about getting away from it all, enjoying nature and especially getting away from being constantly "connected".

Come on Strava its not that difficult to programme it into your software - load route, add manual date and time. voila! unless of course being a free service you actually mean you are paid by Garmin, Sunnto, Nike etc to ensure that we have to buy their latest products. Possibly time to find another programme.

  • They won't do it. This post is now a couple of years old and Strava don't give a stuff about their customers, especially the ones that pay! I didn't even get a response from them saying "We have seen your comment and will look into it blah blah blah". Shocking PR. So long as you use their site, they do not care.

  • I'm using this to upload into Strava a GPX with an even speed
Not perfect but it may help add an entry in your weekly log :/

  • Totes agree. I am a totally new Road bike owner and Strava user. No GPS (yet). My first Strava action was to create a route, then add an activity (trying to select the route).

  • It is really pathetic that Strava is unable to allow a route created in their own system "My routes" as a manual entry.  This issue has been discussed widely for three years and most other competitive systems allow it. Strava wont even respond to complaints and requests. I allowed my premium level to lapse recently and will not pay to be upgraded again until Strava sorts this out.  They could make it a feature for premium users only and it would encourage users to upgrade.

  • This is not the only area where Strava seems to ignore its customers (see complaints about being able to edit your workout).  Thinking about bailing and just using Garmin Connect instead.

  • Guys, Stop whining about Strava not acting on your request. Why not just switch to Mapmyride when they give it free?

To me Strava is just a hyped up app.

  • Serioiusly, editing workouts and attaching routes to workouts where GPS didn't work are basic features that all the other apps like Endomondo allow.

I appears that people have been requesting these features for over 3 years with over 160 related comments and 230 votes.  Does Strava not pay attention to what people are asking for?

  • Yes, that great news that Strave is thinking about this feature, would save a lot of heartache when something goes wrong with a sync after a long ride !

  • Hoorah - really is basic requirement that we can upload a created route as a manual entry. How long will this official review take and then to enablement?

  • Hi Elle, definitely worth progressing this asap, it will be a very popular feature! I already commented back in January, so pleased to see progress. To other Strava users, not much point continuing to berate the dev team now they are making a move, lets just encourage them to get it done asap!  : )

  • This would be cool because right now to replace that :
     - I create the road on strava
     - download the gpx
     - upload it to runkeeper!
     - create the activity on rk adding time
     - download rk gpx of the activity
     - upload the gpx file as an activity in strava

so yeah please develop this feature :-)

  • Yes please, this would be great for when I'm out without my phone. I've used other software that does this (I think it was MapMyRun)

  • It is really frustrating after so hard workout your activity is incorrect due to faulty working Strava App(gps signal issue). Next you try to add your activity manually along with route, but not you can not do it. I think, for me it is only solution back to MapMyRide as I have never experienced any issues with gps signal in the same area and as already has been mentioned below MapMyRide has option to add workout to the route.  Please fix the issues.

  • When will this hand feed us the great enhancement of being able to link manual activities to exsiting routes? Doesn't feel like the moon on a stick

  • This would be very useful for those occasional Garmin screw ups. I look forward to hearing that it's available.

    Thanks. Robin.

  • Hi Elle,

What's the latest on this? Is it still planned to be released? By when?

I always run the same route but haven't been using any gps device for the last year. It would be great to be able to edit those runs and assign the route which I've saved.

    Thanks!

  • I have been asking for this feature for years but when I was on a business trip to Newcastle I went on a run down the Tyne without my TomTom.  I decided to enter a manual entry of the run on my Android phone thinking it would be quite tricky.  AMAZEMENT there is a way to use a route you have saved for a manual entry.  I had a route for this particular run so I incorporated it into my Manual entry. It gives you distance and altitude and calculates your speed.   I never worked out how to create a route on my Android but I had done the route years before on my Windows desktop.WHY CANNOT STRAVA incorporate this feature in Windows or Mac.

  • A friend just rode 1200 km and his Garmin ate his files (https://www.strava.com/activities/1286495707). Wish he could use the route map to manually enter his ride!!!!

  • I like Strava - log all my cycing on it - and I pay for it too. BUT there is an issue regarding lack of response from Strava. It seems requests for easy and sensible app modifications are ignored:

    1. Adding a manual entry and including a route map. Not a complicated one I'm sure.

    2. Set Elevation Correction to ON or OFF for all uploads. Functionality is there, have to ask - WHY NOT?

    ???
