Attach a Route (map) when entering a 'Manual Entry'

It is really frustrating when a device destroys your data!!! In my case an 18 hour ride and nothing to show for it.

What do we do .. only solution at the moment is to add a Manual Entry.

Currently there is no image of the route taken when adding a 'Manual Entry'.

If we could import a route (gpx or  select one of 'My Routes') it would greatly enhance the entry.

Note: no time data would be available from the file ... that is expected.

  • Is there an update on the rollout for this? I just walked the whole of the West Highland Way and would love to be able to attach my times to the routes I created.

  • It's clearly not going to happen. Strava don't care enough about its customers even after 200+ comments asking for it. I feel soory for those that have subscribed to the Premium service.

  • The email updates to this thread have become a reassuring part of my life. I think I might be a bit sad if the feature is implemented and I stop receiving them. Maybe we could have a Strava Club dedicated to manual entry rides? T-shirts?

  • The official comment is from end of January. Still nothing. What is going on Strava?

  • This would be very useful for those occasional Garmin screw ups. I look forward to hearing that it's available.

    Thanks. Robin.

  • Hi Elle,

What's the latest on this? Is it still planned to be released? By when?

I always run the same route but haven't been using any gps device for the last year. It would be great to be able to edit those runs and assign the route which I've saved.

    Thanks!

How is this feature coming alone?

    Thanks

  • It's available on the Android app (and iphone?) but not on the browser interface.

You create a route in your browser, then add a manual activity with the app.

Strange that can't do it from your desktop, but that's the deal right now, AFAICT.

  • Same thing happened to me today. The app does allow me to log a route or fix the logged route. So if GPS gets hidden by trees or your device shuts down, too bad.

  • Not available on iOs (iphone).

Actually amazing that this is under android.

  • Also not sure Thomas, I've notified the team to make sure they get this work back in the planning process. I'll keep everyone posted.

  • I just signed up ... I'm a long time mapmyrun user, and thought I would try it out.  I don't have a GPS device -- and the first activity I try to log I find out I can't manually associate a run with a route I've already defined.

Guess I will have to remain on mapmyrun for now.  :-(

  • Even if I associate a route with a manually entered workout on my Android phone it still doesn't show up in the web interface.

I came to Strava from MMR because so many people raved about it and told me to drop MMR yet this one feature, which is a 'No Brainer' as far as I am concerned, is missing.

It 02/07/17 - when is it likely to become available?

  • I still think the issue is that I have a 50/50 chance with Strava failing to actually failing to record the route - it's main job. Just crahsing mid hike is a big fail. Failing to hold gps and drawing a straight line because you opened the app mid hike to see where you where you were or soemthing - super frustrating - but know I'm just losing faith in the app itself.

  • This app is crap!  absolutely pointless creating a manual route when you can't do shit with it.

absolute pants!  i'm going to look elsewhere for a better app.

  • I know this is currently available via the android app and in development for ios as well as the website but could you please pass along a strong request to make it such that the routes attached to manual uploads appear on our personal heatmaps?  My Garmin saved a big ride on almost entirely new-to-me roads in Belgium as a corrupted file with zero bytes. As per your indication I built the route on Strava route builder and then did a manual upload via android, which worked to show the ride's elevation but the route map does not appear in my dashboad online nor does that route appear on my updated personal heatmap.  This is quite frustrating and seems, to me, to be an easy enough fix with a little coding.

    Thanks!

  • I've found a solution that works for me, allthough it's a lot of hassle - and you'll need a PC:

    1. Create the route you've done in Strava Route Builder and save the route. (I guess you could use other tools as well, if you prefer for example Ride With GPS.)

    2. Export the route to a GPX file and save it on your computer. So far, so good. The only problem now, is that you can't upload this file to Strava because it's missing time stamps, amongst other things. Therefore;

    3. Go to http://gotoes.org/strava/Add_Timestamps_To_GPX.php and upload the file with the correct time stamps and so on. I think it's a good idea to check all checkboxes, especially the one that says "Convert a Route to a Track (MANDATORY for STRAVA uploads)" and choose GPX format. At least, that's what I did, and it worked.

    4. From the same webpage, download the activity to your PC and you should be able to upload it in Strava. Voila!  Alternatively use the "Send to Strava" function.
