Add Gear Maintenance Alerts/Notifications

Also a great opportunity for targeted-advertising. I'm sure Performance Bikes would like to know that I'm due for new tires, and Road Runner Sports would like to know I'm due for shoes.

Information that can be included:

* How many miles have I run in these shoes?

* How many miles on these tires?

* How many miles since I lubed my chain?

* When did I refill my tire sealant?

* How old is this helmet?

* Hey, every time I lube my chain, I ride faster!

* How about an alert when I've exceeded some preset or recommended time/mileage? Time to lube that chain! Time for a new cassette! Time for a new bike!

  • As it is an already existing features for shoes I was surprised that it doesn't exist for bikes too. I hope it will be included soon but for now on I'll go for the app.

  • You can now access the FitBike app at fitbikealert.com. It's easier to remember then https://fitbike.herokuapp.com/ . The location hasn't changed, it's just an alias to the same https site.

And my apologies for missing a bug that prevented email alert notifications from being sent last month. It's working now.

  • In addition, I'd like to see several other improvements. Time in service log in addition to distance, ability to "shelve" components for return to use later, ability to move components from bike to bike and ability to set notification intervals by time and/or distance for gear and components. Call it the "ultra premium" subscription and charge me $7.50/mo for it, lol.

I checked out the fitbike app listed in this thread and it's something, but not very useful to me. It looks like it only imports and tracks the total miles of the bike and doesn't bring in the components info. No "time in service" feature either. Some additional development on that and charge for it would be another option to fulfill my wants.

Wish I was an app developer! Could probably get rich off creating an app that syncs with Strava to track equipment and components. Have an inventory, parent equipment and installed components. Strava already kind of has this, but no inventory area or "time in service" data field. I have the vision, just not the know how!

  • Hi Edward, It would be easy for me to add time to https://www.fitbikealert.com/ if only it were exposed in the API. Many people have asked this, I'm not sure why Strava seems unable to provide it.

  • There doesn't seem to be any listing within Strava for bottom bracket replacement or overhaul. I often repair items instead of replacing them. Similarly, there's also no general or custom option for replacing, or repairing something not listed (like bottom brackets.)

  • I found this thread while looking for something to give me customisable alerts on my bike. I needed something a little more flexible than what is currently available so I made an app myself. Please check out http://geartracker.co.uk

I'm actively developing this and have a roadmap to add features (some of which are mentioned above). If anyone has any feedback, please get in touch.

  • I'm actively developing an app for bike and components maintenance alerts. It is in private beta but already solves most of the existing Strava or similar app problems: you can sync your previous rides and bikes from Strava, define components and install them into your bikes, define service intervals for your components by distance, moving time or elapsed time.

The app keeps all your bikes and components usage in sync with your rides, so you just have to input your data and the app will calculate your components distance, moving time, next service and end of life.

I encourage you to take a look and request access for download: https://www.probikegarage.com

  • Jaime G. I just requested the app. From the webpage, it seems like you may have implemented a lot of the ideas I mentioned in my earlier comment. I can't wait to check it out. I have a clear vision in mind for an app, but am not a developer. I'd love to help you in your endeavor to create an efficient, effective and useful app for tracking bike maintenance. Even if it is only beta testing your program. If you are looking for ideas to build and improve on, I would be happy to share my vision with you. Thanks for creating this.
