Make Route from an Existing Ride

It's much easier to add a route to the My Routes area by simply converting a completed ride to a route. Several other programs do this. Moreover, this would allow for easily sharing rides you've done with others.

You can now create a route from an existing activity. Simply use the ellipses icon on the activity screen and select Create Route.

  • This would be an awesome addition, especially when  considering off road routes that arent easy to map!

  • Yes indeed. At the same time it would be useful to include the feature to add a route from an existing .GPX file.

  • Agreed. Also, sorry if you can already do this and I've missed it, but would be great to add someone else's route to My Routes when looking at an activity they have completed.

  • This feature already exists ,but is very crappy .

There is no one ride which I convert to route and it mess all path.

The strava staff should consider the MapMyRide web site , they route editor is awesome... works very well...  please check it and get inspired!!!!

  • Add to that it would be really useful to upload a route (as a GPX) that someone else has ridden so that you could modify that route (if you didn't like the original or wanted to simply change some elements) and save the new route to Your Routes. At present uploading a GPX is seen as a route you road. I just want to use a friends route to make a new one and 'tweak' it to try a variation. Is that on the cards guys?

    Thx

  • Bafffing this does not exist. Do the developers even work out at all or speak with users?

  • There is a feature in their labs section (https://labs.strava.com/gpx-to-route/) that allows you to import a GPX file or link direct to an existing ride and then modify.  It has been in Labs for a long time but would be a great feature to bring out to the masses as it is very useful.

  • The import feature suggested by Jeremy Bree sounded promising, and I just tried it with a ride I did on some reasonably popular trails. It was a total bust. It did not accept the majority of the ride, only the small portion on fire roads. And I couldn't drag the handles onto the trails to edit it.

  • I'm stunned this doesn't already exist, and by exist I mean functional in a pleasant way, as opposed to the nightmare experience trying to convert a trail ride to a route using one's own ride GPX file. As M. Goldeen rightly pointed out, the Strava route editor DOES NOT enable one to edit deep woods single track trail routes.

  • I think this feature does exist? On the left nav menu of a ride, if you click the ellipses, the menu that pops up has a "create route" option.

I am on the Strava Premium trial now, so I'm not sure if it's limited to premium.

  • you are right Vicki, clicking on the ellipses on the left of a ride gives you the option of creating a route from that ride and then you can make changes.

  • Interesting, when I do it, it just errors out. Only reason I subscribed was so that I can easily create my own routes and track my progress against that route over time. Hopefully it'll get fixed soon.
