Enter Elevation data for a Manual Activity entry

I run on the treadmill and I typically run on an incline. I like to record my ascent for week, it wold be nice to add the miles on the treadmill to the total.

  • Yes, please.  Doing an hour on a climber and not being able to log manual elevation pretty much negates the whole elevation count.

  • Me too.

  • Yes.  me too.  I do stair repeats and would like to be able to track them.  Also, on short steep hills the Strava digital elevation model does a terrible job, so it consistently understimates my hill repeats.  E.g., I do a repeats of a 30 metre hill but according to Strava it is only 10 m.  Why doesn't Strava use the Google Earth DEM?

  • @JM Strava does use DEM but DEM doesn't have the resolution you require not to mention the accuracy of whatever GPS you're using.  Your best solution is to use a barometric GPS.

  • I would love to have this feature enabled too together with adding a created route as a manual entry. Sometimes it happens that your device, garmin or any other just loses the data.

  • 4 years to add an input field, holy shit.

  • Yes, I'd like to be able to add/correct elevation to activities.

  • @Douglas Kubler You can add the distance, you can add the duration, there is literally no reason to block adding elevation. Even if there is a problem with challenge and club statistics, it should be a piece of cake for developers to detach the elevation data from it.

  • After years all our cries just fall on deaf ears. What a shame on Strava's dev and support!

  • I was asked by Strava to fill out a survey - I just decided to give them all zero's. I would suggest that anyone here do the same. It is a pretty simple thing to do. I am going to ask Garmin about the same feature. I will let you know if you can do it using Garmin Connect - if you cannot I will make sure that I tell Garmin that this is a feature that Strava does not support and has no intention of supporting. All the best -

  • This is a feature that is easy to add in Garmin Connect doing a manual run / ride - I also checked and it is also a very simple thing to add or change elevation for any run / ride etc in Garmin Connect that has the elevation supported using GPS etc. I guess I will just track all my stuff in Garmin Connect from now on. I have been a Strava user for years - I just want to thank Starva for providing such bad customer service that it forced me to dive into the features of Garmin Connect - something I should have done long ago. So the answer is pretty simple. Log all your activity in Garmin Connect - you can add or change Elevation easily there. Then just have your Garmin Account linked to Strava if you still want to do that. The data will go over to Strava - but it won't show corrected elevation. Pretty simple fix. Just ignore using Strava.

  • Training for a hilly race, elevation needs to be tracked just like distance and pace. Please add elevation to manual entries!

  • Frustrating to return from a club/group ride and find Strava has stopped/GPS signal lost/battery has died and cannot input the information based on others in the group; surely being able to input the data of those you have clearly ridden with is not a difficult option to create.

  • Add elevation to manual entry already, including editing existing activities if possible.

Don’t allow manual entry to count for challenges and the overall data integrity on Strava won’t be compromised.

You do this for time and distance, no reason not to do it for elevation.

This is one of the top asks from users both premium and non-premium.

    Competitive sites have this feature.

The only reason I can imagine it has not been implemented is that Strava is too in bed with the hardware manufacturers.  Sometimes you already have all the gadgets and you still need this feature because of historical purposes or a dead battery.

  • Please add manual elevation data entry. It is almost as likely that an athlete will accurately know this data as the mileage data, which you can enter manually. We've all forgotten to start our GPS on a route we know or had it die before the end of an out-and-back activity.

  • I tried to facilitate this by opening a trouble ticket when I lost data due to the app crashing.   I was told by Strava that these requests were handled through the forum but base on how long this has been going on apparently they don't really look.

Maybe if every time you lost data you submitted a trouble ticket they would get the hint?

Since manual entry of distance and time are already available this shouldn't cause any more difficulty

  • We need this feature......sometimes the device shuts down and we need to add an entry manually.........Like anything else, the system is based on honor......riders are only cheating themselves if they falsify data.......I just rode a big ride......my system shut down.....it would have been nice to add the elevation........it was a 3800 ft climb........It would have been really nice to add the climbing information.........

  • Pretty simple work around. Get a Garmin Connect Account - have it linked to your Strava Account. You can edit elevation data etc in the Garmin App - Connect. Then save - then it is ported over to Strava. Strava is never going to take care of this.

  • This seems like a fairly simple feature to add, so why not? When I do treadmill climbs @ 15% incline, this is a crucial part of my training and I dislike not being able track it.

  • Please add elevation gain for manual entries; in the rare case of a GPS issue or device failure issue this would be ideal to be able to add for personal tracking usages.

  • Let's get it done! Add elevation footage to manual entries. We have friendly competition in my club and several other groups and I just "lost" 5500'. Ouch.

  • I would like to have the ability to manually enter elevation for a ride. I forgot my phone on a ride and was able to copy a friends info from our ride and create my own, I can enter everything but elevation.

    Thanks!

  • Agreed - for trail running, the use of treadmills for providing elevation simulation is pretty critical for any basic training program?  Seems a critical oversight for runners

This would seemingly be a simple modification (ie. can only be on Treadmill activity and, as specified by Strava - wouldnt count to any Badge, Leaderboard).

  • I ran an official race this week-end. The record of my activity failed, thus I entered it manually in Strava. I was able to set the distance, the duration, but not the elevation, though I have the exact value, provided by the organization of the race. It would really be great if I can set it too.
