Add more Age Categories beyond 65+ for Segments Filters

As the baby boomers retire and age they are becoming more competitive and need realistic comparisons.  I am stuck in the 65 bracket at 73 and although it is a challenge to try to keep up it would be nice to compare my results to a similar age group

Thanks for listening

  • I am soon have my 80th birthday and am still competitive but I see no point in changing my membership to Premium if I cannot compare my performance with my peers. I suggest a 1 year increment after age 80.

  • Just posted this on Bike Forums at Fifty Plus (50+)

strava (lower case is worthy) is going to continue ignoring the older riders. Finally adding more age groups but looks like they stopped at 75!!!!! OK - as a workaround we can form a club with BF and an age like 77.5 as part of the name. If we promote the club enough we won't need premium to see how we are doing. Looking for ideas and suggestions. Let the idea roll. We need to carry this protest on other platforms - like Facebook, Bike Forums and BikeRadar to spread the word.

  • Totally agree, Neil. I turned 80 last month...every year after about 78 is different from the last. I already have a handicap because I didn't start riding until I was 70 and the only way I was able to improve after about 77 was because I bought a power meter...but, ah, this year has been a real drag healthwise. Not many "Just wait 'til next year(s)" left to see comparisons. Keep riding.

  • This has elevated me to a superstar in the 70 year old class and inspired me to kick more ass. Yippee and we'll done. >:)

  • It's nice to see so many of you are still in it and competitive minded. I also just turned 80 in July and don't feel any urge to top riding anytime soon. I'm sorry they stopped at 75+. The people that decided on the age bracket additions  must be young and not realize that age is only a number and 80 comes earlier than they realize, ha!  Let's keep bugging them (Strava).

  • I posted to this thread in November 2014.  And with the recent implementation of the 70-75 category I'm going to benefit for 5 years.  (Maybe longer if STRAVA adds a couple more categories).  However, I know there are riders, my senior, out there that are disappointed.  Well, for the last few days I have been exploring CLUBS and I found some great info.

I can't recommend strongly enough spending some time researching the club features.  I've just recently joined CLUBS: "60+", "OLDER GUYS RULE 65+", "70 Plus", and created 1947 Cyclists.  While using CLUBS you are not going to see segment info rankings but you will see how your riding (weekly distance, weekly climbing and longest weekly ride compared with other rides in your age category or if you join or create, birth year.

    I'll be interested in feedback.
