Report on Hiking Stats separately on Strava

Would love to see overall YTD stats for hiking as this feature exists for running and cycling already. Total miles hiked.. Set goals.. Year to date totals.. Total elevation Wondering why this wasn't implemented already to begin with? Thanks

  • As an avid hiker and trail runner I often have a tough time deciding what category to list my workout under.  One of my favorite workouts is a 3.1 mile 1200 foot elevation gain hike/run.  I do it in about 48 minutes.  Too slow to list as a jog but pretty fast for a normal hike.  I also can't see my hiking segments when I explore for segments in the area.

  • I too am confused about why running and cycling are given such exclusivities.  I could erroneously list all my activities as one or the other, but it seems rather silly that I have to.

  • I agree with the three users above. It would be great to be able to keep track of your hikes!!

  • I support the idea.

  • I'm an avid cyclist and hiker. Would like to see hiking option in the training log and heat map.

  • I would like to keep track of the hiking stats as well.  If I list it as a run, it'll keep track of it, but I'm not running and I don't want to mess up my running stats.  If we can select it as an activity, I think we should be able to see the YTD stats from it.

  • Additionally, I'd like to track the hiking mileage for my boots. When I select hiking the shoe selection is removed.

It would be nice if Strava treated hiking with the same care and thoughtfulness they treat cycling and running.  e,g,  the weekly training log does not include hiking as a category,  hiking miles are not summed....   There are many of us who do not run (knee issues for me), but aggressively hike and bike and would like to track both assiduously.

I routinely do a 6 mile/2000 ft climb hike weekly sometimes twice in one week.  This is in addition to my regular bike riding activities. I use Strava because my bike computer and smart watch (hiking miles and heartrate) send data to Strava automatically.  I would like to better aggregate all my activities into one log and review them in the context of overall fitness.

  • I would also like to see the same attention given to hiking. There is a great deal of effort in hiking a 2500 meter mountain in the middle of nowhere (without a sherpa) carring your own food and water.

  • I can't believe the hiking issue dates back to 2014 and still no love for hikers. Certainly there must be a solid premium paid hiker following on Strava.

    My two cents...

    1. It would be nice to see hiking KOM/CRs listed under user profiles

    2. As mentioned above, including cumulative tallies (dist and elevation gain) for hiking.

    Please and thank you

  • Yeah Tom Willis, I don't think Stava cares or reads these posts.  It should be easy for them to do what we're all asking them to do.  I would even be willing to pay to get my stats recorded like I can with biking and running.  We've been complaining about this for 4 years now but haven't seen or heard anything from Stava about fixing the issue.  I wish someone would come up with an app that could be like Stava but be able to track all our activities separate.  I'd switch without thinking twice.

  • I record my hikes on Garmin Connect and it tracks them. Garmin lets you sort and search by activity type so you can see cumulative stats. I also record them here on Strava and just label them accordingly but obviously the history and activity integration is a fail. I don't understand why they don't just give you a few check boxes and let the user select the activity types they want to group together.

  • I also track my walks with Garmin and use Strava to track my cycling, walking, and running activities. It would be nice to get credit and track total miles for walking in Strava. It doesn't sound like this will happen anytime since I'm not seeing any responses fro Strava.

  • I also split my activities between cycling and hiking. I think it is somewhat impolite to not even respond with a rationale for implementing this.

It seems to me the functionality for hiking on many of thebdesired reports is identical to the running and bicycling reports. Cannot thensoftware be repurpoed?

  • You have got to be kidding me. This has been going on for FIVE YEARS?!?!? They just added a bunch of Summit features too - I would pay for this rather than those. It's sad that I'll have to tag my hikes as runs to use the platform. :-|

    Disappoint.
