Route Builder to suggest Loops based on starting point + desired distance

I think the routing tools are really good for A to B type routes, but given that most training rides start and finish in the same place, it would be great if Strava could suggest loops based on just a starting point and the required distance, based on the most popular roads as it does for A to B.  Otherwise you have to try to cobble together A to B, B to C and C to A to make a nice loop.

  • I think this would be good for looped routes, and the A-B routes. Put in your start/finish locations (regardless of whether they're miles apart, or just metres apart). Then tell Route Builder how far (or for how long) you want to ride and it does it's popular routes thing.

So, if I want to turn my commute home into an hour ride, I punch in my office and home locations, then drag the Ride Duration slider up to an hour. Strava works its magic and comes up with a route that tries to use as many popular roads as possible, and gets the ride as close to an hour as possible. Same with distance, just a different slider...

Other factors you might want to adjust on your route creation are elevation - I don't just want Strava to minimise (or ignore) hills while building routes. I might want to limit my total climbing to 1,000 metres. Or less, or more. Another slider (I like sliders). Even just a drop-down selection maybe: "Flat", "Rolling", "Medium Mountains" or "High Mountains" would make the routes more controllable.

  • I too would love to see this on top of all the great tools and data insights that you provide!   You have the popularity data on roads (slick global heatmap, btw!), giving you a list of oft-traveled routes.

  • I know this is an old thread but this is a great idea and something I am currently looking at a garmin or similar for.  Would be great if it could be done from within strava (app or website)

  • Still a great idea. I'm bored and want to see a 10 mile loop from my house.

  • It's an old post but it's still a great idea, and I'd love to have this feature. Please upvote it folks, then perhaps the Strava devs will notice it.
