Strava IFTTT integration

I would like to see some kind of IFTTT integration with Strava.  This could include uploading metadata to google docs.  Or allowing Synciing of Garmin data to Strava once a ride is complete.  The ideas are endless with IFTTT and could be extremely useful with Strava integration.

  • Yes, we need IFTTT! So many devices integrating with IFTTT and I can think of numerous ways I would use it starting tomorrow if it was available.

  • I would also like to se @ifttt integration. I'd add all my rides to a google doc. I'd also connect to pushbullet so that when my friend starts a ride, I'd get notified.

  • If integrated I guess it could start strava everytime I leave certain places (ideally in a future "no segements" mode)

  • Please add ifttt integration!

IF new activity added to Strava, DO (send email to my friend)

IF I break a new record, DO (send email to my friend....... write it on my facebook wall...... write it in my records document in google docs)

Please Strava!! This will add much added value to your product. PS: Garmin Connect does not have this. You vcan be the first :)

  • I would use it as follows:
I'd add an NFC tag to my bike so when I am on my bike with my phone Strava automatically starts recording.  I'd have the option of when to end the ride on my own.

  • +1 for this.

I'd love to be able to use IFTTT to have an activity automtically post to my Tumblr.

Any thoughts Strava? I assume if Strava can't / won't do this then it's something that could be developed via their API?

  • I would love to see IFTTT integration to Strava.

(This is 2016 right? API's are not that new? How hard can this be?)

  • Rupert, you could easily add an activity to Tumblr by creating an IFTTT recipe using your Strava RSS feed.

  • Hey Patrick. Thank so much for that pointer. I set it up and works well.

Any suggestions to making it such that automatic posts include embed in tumbler like you could when you copy and paste the code?

At the moment it just creates a post with the link to the activity which isn't so nice.

    Thanks again,
    Rupert

  • Rupert, I don't know of anything that would do this for you automatically. To embed a Strava activity you need the activity ID and an embed token. If you do some programming, you could sign up for a Strava API key and create your own tool to post your activities to Tumblr.

I use Strava's API myself for my Tumblr blog at 29in.ch, but I post only selected activities to my blog.

  • Thanks for adding this, lots of potential. Doesn't seem like you can use IFTTT to start recording on your phone though.

  • This is great. Thanks Strava. I can now auto post my rides direct into my Tumblr, with photos. Nice!

Look forward to seeing how this now develops.

  • So I've been playing with the IFTTT integration and you can actually get quite creative with it. In my particular case I am using it to auto-post my activities to Tumblr.

So far I have found the following tags are available when I post.

{{ActivityType}} - Ride, Run etc. Not sure if all activity types are supported.

{{RouteMapImageUrl}} - Displays the route map image. I used the following code line to insert an image into the blog : <img src="{{RouteMapImageUrl}}" width="400" height="400">

{{ElapsedTime}} - How long the activity lasted

{{Distance}} - This is in meters which is a bit silly as anything over 1k then becomes a long number. Not sure why that is but I think it would be preferable to have this in km.

{{LinkToActivity}} - Creates a short link to the activty in the format of http://ift.tt/

{{ImageUrl}} - This displays 1 image from the activity. If you have multiple images I think it shows the first image.

If you want to see an example of the output using these tags you can see it here.

If anybody has a definitive list of tags that can be used I would be really grateful to see it.

    Thanks a lot,
    Rupert

  • Seems to have a bug when using {{RouteMapImageUrl}} to post a new activity to Twitter. All my activities show the same world map.

  • IFTTT integration is nice.

But I would like to be able to get access to the GPX file of an activity via IFTTT, so it could be saved to my Dropbox automatically as soon as it is saved.

    Any plans for this?
