Customize Display on Record Screen

I'm new to Strava, is there any way for users to pick which statistics show up on the Record screen? For example instead of time being the primary number shown can I make it distance?

Sorry everyone - this project isn't a priority for us so it has been shelved until further notice. Please continue adding your support and we hope to consider this idea in the future.

  • Hi Chris,

Thanks for the question - at this time, there isn't a way to customize the data fields on the recording screen. Perhaps we can consider this in the future however! I've moved this topic to our feature suggestion forum so others can view and vote.

  • Yes, Yes, please consider customization of these...what you have there is not very useful for me

  • Agree that being able to customize display or swipe screen to enlarge other stats would be great.

  • I agree with this. I would like to use strava as my bicycle computer so i can make use of life segments etc, but the record screen is just not up to par with other apps or dedicated bicycle computers. Basically it's useless not being able to see both current speed/cadence/power/heart rate and average speed/cadence/power/heart rate or easily switch between them. Also switch between elapsed time / workout time is handy so you can base decision about when you should eat on that.

I'm using Wahoo Fitness right now and it's working great! However i have to manually upload to Strava and then change name and descriptions from the strava app later. I also can't make use of features like life segments and life route sharing.  So if Strava fixes this so it would actually be useful, then maybe i switch back again.

  • I do not understand how users can use the application without this the display customization.
Is almost impossible to follow a training plan without certain information displayed like instant cadence or heart rate for example. I have to still use my Garmin to record my training, what interest have strava?

  • Hi Elle,

The posting of Chris was more than 1 yr ago.

Has anything moved forward on this topic since then?

    Thx,

    Ed

  • This is indeed a major flaw in Strava. Started bicycling this weekend. Expected to use Strava instead of extra gear as a bicycling computer... Alas: the 'record trip' display of Strava is pretty useless!

I decided to use Endomondo (my favorite running app) to see e.g. actual speed, actual heart-rate etc. But now I need to upload my trip later to Strava. Or have both apps running concurrently :-(

  • Yes!

If y'all would do this, I could get rid of my Garmin altogether - I'd like to be able to choose which data displays during a ride:

    compass heading

    cadence

    heart rate

    speed

are my favorites, but turn-by-turn for a route would also be really cool, think Garmin 510/520

  • Yes please.  It's annoying trying to train to either my cadence, time or speed and having the screen roll away from the information I really need to see.

  • YES!  Maybe I am missing it, but not being able to change the app display to information I want to look at is a big deal, even a deal breaker.

It is just my opinion, I think the app needs to allow you to choose what stat is displayed on the record screen.  Also, I find it annoying that the app keeps switching to the map screen.  Maybe if I was using the GPS to have a turn by turn navigation this would be good, but I'm rarely workout on a route I don't already know.  Sooooo, make that a feature that can be disabled, and allow the user to choose.

I've been using Endomondo, and love it.  Aside from the social aspect I'm having a hard time justifying why I would continue using Strava.  I see this topic has been here since 3/2015 and no change to the app as of 7/2016.

  • I've been using Strava consistently for more than 5 years generally with a Garmin, but have recently gone to using a phone mount to run the Android app and like having the huge phone display. Unfortunately, all that space is just waiting to be used to display meaningful stats as mentioned above. Hard to believe a tiny monochrome garmin display with crappy resolution (old Edge 500 from 2010) allows 8 stats per page and multiple pages while the modern Strava app gives the user, what, 4?  ...with a bunch of burning white pixels in between??

    My request would be:

    Avg mph
    Heart rate
Time of day (commuting to work on time constraint, Android clock is small :-)

Also, I have to switch my phone to inverse colors so it is mostly dark to save power, which is a pain.

    Thanks!

  • lol, I've got the same old Garmin! I'm with you, the only reason I still use it is for its route and in-progress displays. Provide these, and Strava will be the Garmin Killer!

  • I fully agree, Strava makes for a pretty poor cycle computer. All that processing and pixel power of Android smartphones gone to waste. For those who don't use live segments (e.g. because they're not planning to go fast, just doing Base training) there are much better apps out there

  • C'mon strava get your act together and do this!   What's the point of all that screen space when all as can see is a few average stats?!    Even if it's a Pro only feature I'd pay for it!

  • This really needs to be done. I'm Premium and the inability to customize the display is just silly. All serious app options have this. Minimum display options should include:

    Grade

    Heart Rate Zone

    Power Zone

    Cadence

    etc.

  • The only reason I use this app is it's the only one The National Bike  Challenge  uses. Horrible that I can't  customize the display.  Premium ....nothing premium on this app!!!

  • I've downgraded to non-premium and hope this feature is introduced as a premium service in the future.

  • I love all the features Strava offers but would really like to be able to customize the record screen, I'd prefer to have cadence as an option.

  • There was a recent update to this about a week ago. The default metric displayed (large, central) is now average speed, which is great as far as I'm concerned, but at the expense of current speed. As if there wasn't room for both. I'm 85% satisfied. Allowing a default black display would raise that to 90% and allowing custom fields would close out the issue completely. And I'll sign up for premium again!

  • I have a new computer. Now Strava is irrelevant without premium Sorry for the loss Strava.

  • This is a deal breaker for me as well. I'm not that interested if I can't see relevant data while I ride.

  • Apparently after 2 years, this feature hasn't been added yet. I would like to see my elevation and a number of other features on my display such as average speed, current speed, current altitude, grade, HRM, calories, distance, even the temperature. Please strava add this to your record page. It's really annoying that we don't get to see enough data. Also, I think there should be two different modes: Day (white screen/black text) and Night (black screen/white text) modes.

I use Runstastic at the same time and I can easily costumize the screen.

    Thanks

  • I just upgraded to premium Because the guy at my bike shop told me that I would be able to see current cadence, current speed, etc. with the premium app, but I cannot find a way to change the display. Is this correct?

if I cannot see the information that I want to see then I will return the stuff and buy a Garmin. Please advise.
