Allow me to Opt-out of Segment Leaderboards for an Activity (Semi-private)

I think it would be nice if a user can op-out of general leaderboards. This would do the following.

- Remove all the users rides from public leaderboards. Rides from the user will not be included in the public leaderboards and no KOMs/QOMs/top 10s will be awarded.

- Still keep a "personal" leaderboard. This would show the user all their times on segments.

- Allow this feature to be set globally for all rides. The user will either be able to opt in or out of leaderboards. This preference will not be a per ride setting.

  • I´m partial in agreement with this feature. I would like to be implemented a dropout ladderboard segments options for those rides (professional ones) that are made in the pack or in the wind tunel car. Those riders might want to be a really gentlemens and dropt their times out of the ladderboard because of this factors.

  • Are you recommending doing this on a per-segment basis? That's an unrealistic amount of curating. On a 30 mile ride around here I'll hit 70-90 segments. Also, people aren't going to opt-out just because they were in a group.

  • Im actually saying whats happening with some rides that are pretty unfair.. should we flag does unfair rides? Segments are awesome to us to see our improvments althought the public ladder boards are full of unfair rides. Should them be flaged? One solution could be defining some rides as pro or in competition rides. Others use cars and motobikes to train and simulate competition rides. Should does rides be in the public ladderboard ?

  • That's an entirely different discussion. Cycling is draft friendly sport, that's not going to change. Having rides being marked as a group, etc is annoying and unrealistic (there's a whole conversation about this in another feature request). All I want is not to be in leaderboards. It's one option in settings, easy to implement, etc. I just want to use Strava to track personal fitness changes, not compare myself with others. If you're viewing this as a competition you are taking it too seriously.

  • So there is no need of having public segments... and your request is kind of similar. Opt to private the ride already exists in strava and put every result out of public ladderboard that isnt tip10 looks ridiculous. Forget what i have post here. If possible im asking the admins to delete me conversation .

  • If I mark my ride as private only I can see it. I want my friends to still be able to see my rides but not participate in leaderboards. Garmin Connect has this option available for example. Right now there is no equivalent method of doing this in strava.

  • Ok. That would be a start point to some pros to show they rides but not participating in public ladderboard segments.

  • This has nothing to do with pros or separate leaderboards. There is already another discussion about that (https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/25407729-Should-Pro-riders-have-their-own-Leaderboards-).

  • Thanks for the feedback.

So this would mean that the Strava user that enables this proposed setting would not be interested in participating in public segment leaderboards at all?

Is there significant interest in this form of opt-out?

  • Hi Elle,

Yes, only personal times on segments would be tracked and the user would not participate in the global leaderboard. I think this should be part of a bigger effort to increase privacy on Strava. Right now it's a bit of a mess. Even if you have your privacy setting as "request to follow" someone can find you via a public leaderboard, go to your ride, and even with privacy zones get a good idea of where you live, what your riding patterns are, etc. In effect I want to share my rides on Strava with my followers list only and not the entire world.

  • Now Alex i´ve realise much better what you wish... your last post its more clear about the thread gold. Fully agree with your words! At this moment strava has a semi private and public profile. What ´s wished is a third level of security with a full private profile with no ladderboard public times.

  • Coming soon is a new privacy feature to hide your activities from segment leaderboards.

Please keep an eye out for this new Privacy setting to be available on your account in the next few weeks.

When this setting is enabled, it means that for future activities all your segment results will be hidden from public leaderboards. This is essentially an 'opt-out' feature. On any given leaderboard, you can still filter by "my results" and see your times (this operates the same way private activities operate).

Thanks for your continued feedback over the years.
