Training Log Improvements - Feedback

I'm excited that you have added the training log tab. To improve functionality, add a weekly and monthly totals column. Likewise, create a training log that includes all activities-- not just the three triathlon sports.

  • I agree - all sports should be available.  Tri-sports are a fine default, but personally, I want rowing in the summer, and nordic in the winter....

  • Additional to my rides I do a lot of inline skating in summer to train for the ice speed skating in winter; I would like to add the inkline skating (and ohter actvities) in the training log.

  • Another vote for being able to user-select what sports are displayed in training log, AND weekly goal time. I count everything I do as excercise and just try and hit 10 hours per week. I don't care what sport it is, but especially in winter, it is a lot of things besides cycling. Frustrating to have to mentally add my time up if it's not biking, about the only place I can see the actual total time is under My Profile if I read the total time for that week.

  • I agree:

The Training Log currently displays activities: 'Swim', 'Ride', 'Run'

I use a Concept2 rower as part of my riding and running training schedule.

Currently, I am Concept2 rowing around 35km to 50km a week, which is broadly comparable in effort to running the same distance.
It is somewhat frustrating, therefore, to be unable to visualise this effort in the Training Log.

NOTE: The C2 activities are uploaded from a Garmin 310xt which is wirelessly linked via the Concept2 PM4 monitor, and so the distances rowed are extremely accurate and verified via the ergometer, and not simply a manual input of distance...

Unfortunately, these activities do not show in the Training Log even when 'Multi-sport' is selected (...which is, of course, currently defined as 'Swim' or 'Ride' or 'Run' )

I would like to propose an amendment to the functionality such that a user may decide to display other activities (such as Concept2 rowing) within their Training Log.

    Kind regards

  • Dear Strava. I would also realy like to PROVE all my activities/training sessions in the Training Log. Does this sounds familiar: "Every mile tells a story. Of hope, endurance, passion and desire. Stories of muscles wanting to quit. Minds refusing to head. Stories of bravery. Stories of triumph. Pain and pleasure. Proving your efforts. Proving your commitments. Proves you are crazy. Proves to others and yourself. That you are out here doing exactly what you love to do." I hope you consider Roller skiing, Nordic skiing and other endurance sports activities as storytelling miles, of pain, pleasure, bravery, effort and commitment. I do. Being able to include "XT-sessions" as a bubble in the training Log would be great. In addition, it would be great to have a bar for "XT" under "Sports" and a black square in the "Last 4 weeks"-summary on my profilepage. I would also like to be able to include weekly notes as proposed by others in this thread. Elle, are you still taking notes? What's the status, and what are you thinking about the suggestion in this thread?

  • We appreciate all the feedback left here on this thread! Some clear trends have emerged, like the inclusion of all activity types in the training log. This will be at the top of our list when we revisit the training log for further development.

In the meantime, if you'd like to check out some related topics posted in our Feature Suggestion section, I've included the links in the main comment body at the top.

  • Strength training is a must for any serious runner/cyclist/triathlete - all the core users of Strava.
Strength training and other cross training is 100% part of the training hours you set yourself, and as such MUST be included in the training log totalled hours or you are not getting the total training hours!!
Simples!! Why are Strava dragging their heels on this - as a training log its one simple step away from being a proper training log.

  • Something that hasn't been mentioned; in the Training Log (http://app.strava.com/athlete/training/log) feature on the right hand side there are the dates (years/months) for easy access.

If you have completed a running activity for example; and it was selected as a "Race" it is essentially "highlighted" and stands out.

A similar addition could be added for cycling. I have had several races on the bike and having them highlighted is helpful when shifting through all the training.

There doesn't necessarily need to do be any different metrics added (like "Race Pace" for running).

  • Would like to be able to filter the yearly view of the Training Calendar to show any one of the following: bike, run, trainer, hike, other.

    thanks

  • I would love to be able to see more info about my training load over time, such as in the following ways:

    1. I would love to see training load in the drop down in the training log. Currently I can see daily values for, and weekly totals for, distance, time, and elevation. Can training load be added here? I would like to see when I'm increasing or decreasing my training load from week to week

    2. Some way to compare training load with volume of workouts on a graph. As the race season progresses, the periodization methodology calls for decreasing training volume while increasing training intensity. It would be great to be able to use Strava to manage this.

    Thanks!

  • So, any idea on when you are gonna revisit the training log ?

  • I agree. Either re-name the 'Training log' or include all training activities. As an ex-ultramarathoner recovering from major cancer treatment I understand how it's easy to dismiss a walk as a non-training activity. However it now takes more will-power and effort for me to walk for an hour than it used to to run for 10 hours. It's all relative. Walking will be my 'training' for some time to come, as it is for others who may be struggling. Strava's exclusion of our walking efforts from the Training Log demonstrates a lack of understanding of the breadth of activities that can be considered training.

  • An another request : it would be nice to have the training load total for every week in the log.

  • This is definitely the main thing I'm missing from Strava! I love Strava so much otherwise, but I dislike that workouts other than biking and running are portrayed as less important. As others have mentioned, I live in a part of the world where cross-country skiing is typically my main train for several months of the year!

  • Hi folks! We will likely revisit our training features in 2015, and the feedback you leave here will be carefully considered. Thanks for all the great feedback, and be sure to visit the related links posted in the main body.

  • The training log view is great aesthetically and functionally, but why can't we link to it? This seems like a no-brainer. I'd like to be able to have friends view the calendar view of the Training Log. Thanks!

  • It looks like this thread has petered out - did you guys make any progress on including all activities in the training log? It's frustrating to ski so much and only see a couple of runs on the list. Thanks!

  • +1 for an 'all activities' tab in the training log both on the website and mobile..  totals by week and month would also be really really helpful!

  • I've just noticed the activities I'd set as private had disappeared from my training log too, wasn't happy about that, as it's such a useful too. Thanks for the info Jamie that they's working on fixing this bug.

  • I agree with with Jamie Phelps. Please bring back the private activities in trainning log! As an amateur bike racer, I found the trainning log very usefull to verymanage my trainning load but I don't want my opponent to know about my trainning load...

  • When looking at the training log for cycling, current setup will display measures based on distance / time / elevation gain. During indoor training season (for us who live in places with awful winters), distance/time become much less meaningful, and elevation gain is totally meaningless. How about including a measure of work / training load? This would be beneficial across sports as well

  • A really nice feature would be a summary of the week (or month) based on pace / speed in addition to volume. Some weeks, I cut volume to increase pace. Some periods, I increase volume and cut pace somewhat.
