Local Area Moderators

I think the service would benefit from having moderators whose job it was to:

  • Demote segments that are duplicates of others.
  • Remove segments that go through notoriously dangerous areas.  (Flagging doesnt really cut it.)
  • Promote segments that are popular, reliable, and well constructed.

The moderators could be assigned areas to manage, with the purpose of improving segments in general.

If segments could be upvoted/downvoted and had discussion areas of their own, then this I feel would be valuable.

Thanks Jason - I really like the way you're thinking here. For 2016, we'll be thinking about how we can better activate local "experts" in our community to help with our data and common user issues and this is great food for thought.

  • That would be really great!
Plus it elevates the social part

  • You can hide segments you don't like

  • Has there been anymore thought about this. I've always thought this would be a great idea, and have brought it up to support before.

The number of segments is growing and lots of them are just garbage. Also some of them are great but they just go a little too far or start a little too early. Some names also need to be changed slightly.

Having a local person that know all the roads and all the trails, that could edit segments would be a great help. I'd be willing to do this in my area.

I also think the creator of the segment should get an e-mail that their segment was changed if they want to argue a case for it.

  • Is anything going to come of this or is it just another awesome idea that Strava is passing up?

  • Can I bump this post. This is severely needed at least in my area. We have so many duplicate segments. Segments that just start a little too early and or end a little too late. Segments that are flagged that shouldn't be. Segments with garbage GPS data, like off the road and into the woods randomly. Strava you have my E-mail. Lets get this started.

  • This is something that is very needed.
A lot of segments is created by people that either want to keep the KOM's for themselves by setting very unlogical start and end-points, or by people that just don't care.

We need someone with local knowledge to be able to edit segments.

Having lots of duplicate and bad segments makes Strava a little less inviting to use.

  • Strava needs to get on this. Their unacceptable answer is to star and unhide / hide segments but that's not the answer. Their are lots of real segments hidden and garage ones being shown.

Strava contact me so you can get a beta test of this going I know basically every road in my area. We need a segment cleaning.
