Apple Watch app asks me to Log In

After the recent update, my app on my apple watch will not start or change back to the shoe to run. I get an error message that says Check Strava on iPhone for prompts and there is none and be sure Bluetooth is enabled in settings which it is. This is very frustrating I used to love this app till now.

Please ensure that your Apple Watch is running the latest version. You can check this by going to My Watch App > General > About. Also check that you are running the latest iPhone iOS version as well and have no system updates on your phone.

  • I am also getting this issue. Have you had any response? This has made my watch useless as a training aid.

  • Try to reinstall the Strava app on your iPhone. The app on your iWatch will automatically reinstall. Then open the Strava app on your iWatch. Push strong for 1 second on the display and you can choose cycling or run. I hope that will works for you.

  • I just get the big Orange start button on my watch and it won't go any further. Have tried reinstallation that doesn't work. Watch is now no good for training! Come on Strava fix this please.

  • I have the same issue as Mark and reinstallation on watch or restarting watch makes no difference.  Haven't tried reinstalling on iPhone as that would require more stuffing around.

This issue has persisted through the recent watch and iPhone OS updates.

  • I also have the same issue after recent update Strava will not start.

    re installing does not work.

    Apple watch version 3.2 (14V249)

Iphone SE IOS Version 10.3.1 (14E304)

Just check that the Start Button was still not Working and low and behold it is working and asking to connect with Apple Health.

This could be because I found that several of my blue tooth connections including the Apple Watch had been disconnected after IOS and watch update.

I reconnected the blue tooth and just checked to find it does start now!

  • This fixed it for me...

Go to your general iPhone settings and select Privacy > Motion & Fitness. Make sure Strava is turned ON so the toggle is highlighted green. You may have to uninstall and reinstall the Strava app before doing so. While in the Privacy section of your Settings, make sure Location services and Health are enabled.

I didn't have to reinstall...for some reason, my privacy sharing of toggle for strava was turned off.  All good now...hope this helps.

  • Settings under Privacy > Motion & Fitness > Strava, fixed the problem.
Not sure why the sudden change. Worked fine until after International flight. May be due to flight mode setting?
    Thanks

  • I was having the same problem but tried all theses but nothing worked.

i then uninstalled it and reinstalled it and went through all the usual set up checklist but when it came up to motion and fitness and it asked for connection permission I declined and instead went to settings and enabled strava through that and it worked.

hope this helps as a work around

  • I've tried many of the above suggestions, however Strava on my AppleWatch simply is frozen  on the welcome screen saying to login to the Strava app on your iPhone.  Let me know if anyone has any other ideas otherwise its back to NikePlus for me.

  • The solution from Matthew Cass worked for me to "finish" but the device still doesn't appear on my strava list on "manage devices". And worse, the app on the watch believes I'm not even logged in.

  • One day it worked great, the next it would not respond on the watch.  Uninstall/re-install on both phone and watch, now it "spins" on the watch. After 6 months of perfect operation, I thought it was too good to be true

  • the same for me. Apple watch app doens't work because it doesn't recognize me as logged in.

  • Count me in here, too. I checked all the problems here in the forum and possible solutions. Re-installed everything and checked all settings and permissions. The App on the watch is stuck in the welcome screen and asks me to log in. Logging out and in again also doesn't change anything.

Whats pretty interesting, though is that this problem is existing on the second watch now. I just installed my series 2 and the problem is still persisting. Pretty annoying...

  • Please try the following steps:

    - Use the Watch app located on your iPhone to force an uninstall of the Strava Watch app. Note that it may take some time for the app to be fully uninstalled from the Watch face.
    - Confirm the app has been uninstalled from the Watch.
    - Uninstall the Strava app from your iPhone.
    - Force close all apps on the iPhone.
    - Restart the Watch and iPhone.
    - Download and install the Strava app on the iPhone.
    - Confirm you are logged into the Strava app.
    - Confirm the Strava app has been installed on the Apple Watch.
    - Unlock the display on the iPhone and load the Strava Apple Watch app.
    - Watch for and approve prompts on both devices.

  • I just solved the problem on my side here and the only way was to completely re-instal my apple watch. So not from a backup, but as a new device. Before that to be sure I also uninstalled the strava App on my phone but I tried that before while not re-installing my watch.

So the tipps from the Strava Team didn't work on my side, but this one did. Hope this helps you...

  • I have tried every suggestion on this list and none of them have worked for me. This is the second time it's happened to me. Think Strava and I will be parting company for here

  • I had the exact same problem on Apple Watch (stuck on log-in screen).  On iPhone, I went to Privacy > Motion & Fitness and cycled Strava on and off.  Now works.

  • Please look for the latest Apple software update for your watch, as that seems to resolve this issue.

Also try going to Privacy settings on the iPhone, then to Motion & Fitness and turn Strava off then on again. (Thanks for the tip Gregory)

If you're still having trouble, try uninstalling the Strava app from your watch and phone, and then reinstalling. Then, log out of the Strava app on your phone and log back in.

  • Gregory Novak, thank you!! This fixed it for me - so easy. Mine got stuck on this screen after getting the new iPhone X, and seriously cut down on my pre-work run on Monday by fiddling with it for half an hour before giving up and going with the Apple Watch fitness app.

  • None of the recommended steps worked for me.  I worked through Elie's recommended steps and have the latest iOS on my phone and watch.  At this point I'll just go back to my Garmin and continue to believe that Strava's ride recording function is not ready for primetime.

  • I did finally get the Watch app working. I deleted and reinstalled the app twice, and for some reason the second time was the charm. Seems to work fine now.

  • have had same issue, after iphoneX swap. Have uninstalled and reinstalled phone and watch app twice now. Super annoying.

toggling sträva in Motion & Fitness even makes the app close on watch, it goes back to app selector view, when I reopen app on watch, same thing, asks me to log-in to iPhone app... which is.

    - Deleted and reinstalled Strava iPhone app: FAILED
    - Did the above twice: FAILED
    - Privacy/Motion Settings - twice: FAILED

    - Setup watch as new watch (DO NOT restore from backup)
    - Restarted iPhone
    - Reinstalled Strava on iPhone
    - Re-paired watch with iPhone
    - Reinstalled Strava on Watch
    - Added Watch within the Strava app settings
    - SUCCESS!

  • Come on Strava. This is pretty poor. One app shouldn’t require resetting you watch to use. It was kinda my main motivation for upgrading to Watch 3. Had to do the above at the time m. Can’t believe I have to do again now i’ve upgraded my phone.

  • I am having the same problem. Strava is not even showing up in the motion&fitness settings. Reinstalling does not work. Is really the factory reset the only alternative?
