Garmin Connect multi-sport activities displaying wrong start time in Strava

When I sync my activities from a triathlon recorded on my Garmin 735XT, they import to Strava fine but the start time shown on Strava is actually the time the activity finished. For instance, I did a triathlon yesterday and my 33 minute swim started at 7:00am exactly (fine in Garmin Connect). When imported to Strava, the start time is showing at 7:33am. All other activities from the triathlon have done exactly the same. Not an isolated incident either - all of my triathlons have this problem. It makes it rather problematic for getting accurate fly-bys and means I often overlap myself between cycle end and run start...

Does anyone know how to fix this and where the problem is arising? It looks like it may be a simple transfer error from Connect - 'activity finish' in Connect copied to 'activity start' in Strava or something similar.

  • This bug has existed for well over a year.  Strava does not care.

  • I raised the same issue with Strava last year too.  They marked it as "closed" as they were aware of the issue but didn't have a solution https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/requests/1101036

  • Helooo?

How can this not be on top of the bugfix-backlog?!

Fly-Bys absolutely not working with this bug - can't analyze my race compared to other people!!! Arghhhh!

(Admittedly, if this is only an issue when the data is coming from Garmin - couldn't it also be their fault?)

  • I've also written in the Garmin customer support and they have said it's a Strava import/sync issue from Strava's side. Garmin Connect displays the data correctly, but it's impossible to know whether they're sending the data to Strava incorrectly, or Strava are somehow jumbling it when it arrives.

You could create a gpx file for each one and import them separately?

I eventually gave up on my Garmin multi-sport and went back to single entries for each thing.

  • Hi Grant,

yes - individually exporting each discipline as TCX (not GPX) and re-uploading it to strava resulted in correct start times. Just click on an individual discipline and then on the "gear"-symbol on the far right to get to the export options.

I had to first delete the originally auto-synced sessions from Strava though because otherwise the re-upload was detected to be a duplicate and failed...

  • It is strange that this bug, which seems simple to fix, is still here. I just completed a triathlon and, as usual, the start times are all incorrect in Strava. The Strava start times for each individual activity in the multi-sport event are actually the end times of each individual activity as being reported by Garmin. This has got to be a simple coding error. It makes it look like I'm biking and running at the same time...because the activities overlap due to the incorrect start time. If only I were that good that I could do both at the same time!! lol

  • Same issue here, and obviously with everyone else as I was not shown as "riding with" most of the people I was around in yesterday's race due to this bug

    Long overdue for a fix

  • Finally fixed!!! My Garmin multi-sport activity (triathlon) transferred into Strava without issue last weekend!
