Swim laps not displayed on Strava

my swim laps are not being displayed on the Strava website. Has this feature been discontinued? It used to work but recently it has stopped showing laps.

    Good news, everyone!

Our engineers have deployed a fix for a bug that was inaccurately parsing lap data on swim activities.

  • Same here as of mid-late October. It used to work perfectly every time and is definitely recorded correctly as it shows on Garmin Connect. I now only see maybe 1 or 2 of my intervals per session when viewing on Strava. I'm using a Gamin 735XT if that has anything to do with it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Same here. Only a few intervals show up for me and I'm also using a Garmin 735xt. I've noticed varying levels of this across the people I follow; some will have all of the laps shown and others will only have a few.

  • I am having the same issue.  This started with my 11/21/18 swim, and every swim since.  11/20/18 was fine.

  • Same here. It will list my first lap split but not anything else. Garmin website lists everything but not Strava. I use a Garmin Fenix 5.  Any fix yet?

  • Yep, at beginning i thought it was my fault when setting up, but Garmin Connect shows all laps (more or less) correctly

  • Some swimmers that I follow don’t seem to have this problem. Not understanding why this happens to some

  • Hey folks,

Thanks for taking the time to let us know your thoughts! As we develop our Swimming features, I have an alternative solution. Have any of you used MySwimPro yet? MySwimPro integrates with several devices and it also syncs to Strava. You can read more information about it here. Hope this helps!

  • Same thing has been happening to me since October. Contacted Strava and they said "It appears there have been some recent changes to Garmin swim file data and we're not able to parse that data correctly. We're investigating and hope to be able to properly parse the data in the near future." But it's now almost Feb, so hopefully they can resolve this soon!

  • So the official Strava fix for this issue is for members to pay for another third party product so that it can fix the data and then import it to Strava? Huh? Thanks?

  • Just out of interest guys......I use  both a Garmin 735xt....and a Garmin 920xt.

I have noticed that only the 735xt doesnt migrate the laps over from Garmin Connect to Strava.

It all works fine from the 920xt.

  • @Ian - It's a free app, actually!

  • @jeff I'm confused because that isn't what the website says, nor any of the comments about the app. Yes, free to download, but not free to use. It has a free 7 day trial.

  • @Ian

I can see why it looks confusing. If you sign up on the app, there's a little link beneath the Free Trial where it says "Maybe later." This bypasses having to pay for Elite. You can connect your devices to it, which should sync your workouts to MySwimPro then sync to Strava.

    Cheers.

  • @Jeff. This should be a quick fix. There is one extra tag in the swim file for later model Garmins. A good programmer should be able to implement a fix for this in 10 to 15 minutes. Suggesting that we sign up to another service just to see our swim laps is bizarre. This was working on TrainingPeaks the day after the update. Maybe you should hire one of their guys.

  • I just can’t fathom how the pace of development at Strava can so glacially slow. Every minor fitness app out there with a single developer who does everything him/herself keeps up with these issues within a few days at most. Strava takes years to fix anything, and whenever they do happen to implement a new feature or fix something, they break 50 other things in the process.

Have you noticed that Refresh Activity Achievements has been broken for more than a week on activity pages (under the … ellipsis)? It points to /share/facebook, then updates to the current URL if you reload the page. I notified Strava Support, who said they were aware and hoped to have the issue fixed on Monday. It’s now Wednesday evening, and the link is still broken. The workaround they gave me doesn’t work either. Then they closed my ticket as Resolved.

Just unbelievable that this company even functions at all.

  • @ Jeff.  Everyone here would obviously like an update from the programmers.  Is there a reason why a solution is so difficult?  BTW - I tried MySwimPro and that is not a solution (for me anyway).

  • Same for me with my new Fenix 5. Two days ago it worked on my old Fenix 3...

I tried to upload manually the fit or tcx file and still it doesn't show more than 2 intervals. I can see the correct intervals on Garmin Connect and SpeedoOn but it totally damages the synchronization with Golden Cheetah. I uploaded the fit file in Golden Cheetah and it recognizes the intervals

  • I use 735xt and for me this problem appeared in October 2018 after Garmin released update 9.40 (I guess the change came later to different Garmin devices, my friends with Fenix 5 were affected later). So it's half a year and Strava guys were still not able to fix the issue. I am programmer myself and I really can't fantom how the development process in Strava works... Every other application I use can display the swim data correctly.

  • This is disappointing. I recently bought the Analysis package for the exact reason that I wanted to port lap data (for run and swim) from my Garmin 735XT into Strava. Presumably even if this is fixed, existing workouts won't be patched for missing data. I'm now typing splits into the description panel for my own comparison...

  • PLEASE Strava -- why do you turn off features and refer us to 3rd party free apps just to get data that used to be a part of your platform?    I could see if someone was asking some obscure feature; however, these people are asking why a previous feature went away.    It's been MONTHS and the only response is to use another app and you can't even provide a direct answer to WHY the swim lap data went away.

I experienced this same glacial Strava customer service when I bought a membership, was sent an email from Strava with a redemption code, but accidentally misplaced the email.    Emailed Strava customer support (as there is no phone number to call), took 14 days to get a response, and even the response was little more than a one sentence response that didn't solve the problem.   I respond to the email and wait ANOTHER 10 days to get the 2nd response -- still without a resolution.   I just gave up, called my credit card, and disputed the charge -- and, after the review by Citibank, agreed to credit my membership charge.

Be very careful with how little you seem to care for your users -- your bread and butter -- as it would be very tempting to jump to another platform that was only 2/3rds as good but was at least responsive to user requests and had even passable customer service.    Sad to me, being a Strava user since 2011 and was once one of your biggest champions.   But issues like this and other features related to cycling that have been open for YEARS have me actively looking for other solutions.  You just don't seem to care about your users.

  • it seems as though only sets above a certain distance (perhaps 400m ) are shown.  This is quite annoying.

  • I'm confused... this is marked as completed & released... Is the only solution to getting laps shorter than 400yd taken on a garmin watch to display in strava really to have users buy an additional subscription to a third party service?  That seems kind of insane...
