Swim laps not displayed on Strava

my swim laps are not being displayed on the Strava website. Has this feature been discontinued? It used to work but recently it has stopped showing laps.

  • This issue has been ongoing for almost 6 months now - how is this not resolved yet?! The solution is even in this thread (Garmin changed the file structure slightly somewhere in October firmware updates on newer watches - just update the parser)!

Pointing to a third-party app/solution for this is ridiculous.

  • I contacted Strava about this issue and got the following response:

"Unfortunately, this is a known issue our developers are aware of. I've added your comments to our bug tracker. Unfortunately, I don't have an estimate on when this would be resolved."

  • Do we need to start another topic for this issue?   I ask because this topic is marked as "completed and released" despite not fixing anything other than directing users to use a 3rd party app.

The core issue is Garmin changing the data structure for swims from their devices.   I can't help but believe the fix, at most, is a few hours of developer time.    Why, Strava, CHOOSE to leave your app broken for 1/2 a year and counting?

  • This isn't just a Garmin issue.  I use an apple watch with myswimpro, and laps don't always display correctly.
(Also was a problem with my old Pebble watch and swim.com app).
I believe it's entirely just a Strava problem.

  • It is mind boggling to think Strava does not have a developer that is able to parse the new lap swimming format. It should take about a day or less for any basic developer.

I wonder what they spend their premium revenue if not on the company itself? Because they are clearly not developing anything as of late which is highly disappointing.

I will not get Premium again any time soon as it won't benefit the customers and only the pockets of the executives, or so it seems. Maybe they could pay one or two developers a little bit of money to... Say, fix some bugs? Their engineering offices must be full of spider webs and dust.

BTW How is this a "completed & released" feature? Developers are just trolling us at this point. Maybe this issue should be escalated further showing how the engineers resolve issues in paper without ever solving them at all.

  • Not sure if its helpful to Strava or not ( or am I just wasting typing effort here)....but swim laps display correctly on my Forerunner 735XT in open water mode. It only seems to be pool swimming that doesnt display properly.

  • Please sort it out Strava - this used to work fine from Garmin to Strava and then stopped.  As Maarten said - just up date the reader fixed!

P.S. I stopped my summit membership because of these kind of issues - you're losing potential and existing customers...

  • Something strange with Swimming on the changeover from Garmin >> Strava.  My Garmin Connect details everything perfectly. (20 x 100m)  Counted the rest / laps etc lovely. It then auto-uploaded to Strava where it showed it as a (VERY SLOW) bike ride??!?!  I manually edited this to a swim, but no laps are shown so it now looks like a very slow continuous swim.  This is only on my last three swims.  Up until about a week or so ago it was all working perfectly.  Slightly annoying.   HELP!!

  • We're now 8 months in since this issue was flagged here and nothing has been done. That's a pretty sad state of development and bug fixing.

  • It is not just a Garmin issue. Swim laps recorded with Coros do not show up on Strava either.

  • So how do I make contact with a Strava developer>.... I  emailed the API team about swim support not working almost a year ago and got a brush-off "it's broken, we're working on it" email in reply.

The reason I ask is because I write an opensource swim app that exports .FIT files to Garmin and Strava. The files I create are 100% compatible with Garmin and work in Garmin connect, but confuse Strava.

so. if I can understand *what* Strava is looking for in the files, I can modify mine to work in Strava as well, but similarly I can explain how the Garmin ones work and need to be parsed.

  • On Polar, using a V800, swim was 750m but shows as 736m in Strava.

However it shows that session is comprised of 1 lap of 750m with same time elapsed on the swim activity page?

  • So, this is still an issue. I can't believe it. I can't believe Strava gets one dollar for this shit.

So, My 935 has been doing the swim distance / pace / time thing for a while now. It will show my total yards, with a much shorter time and incredibly fast pace. But the total elapsed time is correct.....

Yesterday, I went back to my old 920 and used it for a swim thinking that issue wouldn't exist. I never noticed it before with the 920....But it did it. The exact same thing.

Furthermore, my wife still uses the 920 and it was correct for her swim.............

What in the world is going on?

Attached is my swim from last week with the 935.

  • I gave up waiting for a fix to this and other issues/requests (some of which have been on-going for YEARS) and let my premium membership lapse.

I suspect Strava's main focus is amassing data for sale to urban planners, cities, etc.  I would guess their second focus is selling marketing promotions to companies in the form of challenges or branding user workouts who use a specific app (e.g. Trainer Road, Sufferfest).  Likely far down their list of priorities is the actual users.   In the end, we are not their customer but are instead just the medium to generate data for sale and to amass eyeballs to sell advertising.  Strava's lack of customer service in this and numerous other similar threads for extreme periods of time, the lack of a phone number, any email to customer service taking 1/2 month to get a response, etc., just reinforces my belief.

Point being: don't hold your breath on this or any other bug / request to Strava unless it aligns with some data package they are wanting to sell to companies or cities.  An individual's swim laps don't seem to have an obvious monetization potential that I can see so I will be surprised if it's ever fixed.
