Workout Planning - Build your own training

I'd love a feature to plan workouts. Similar to Training Peaks, but without all the over analysis. I just like to plan my workouts for a week/month/training block and then track how I hit them. This is actually a feature I'd consider paying for. Most of the Summit features do not interest me (or my watch has the same features for free). This one would definitely make me reconsider. This is definitely for those of us who kind of "self coach."

  • Hi,

I would also pay for this if I understand what you are suggesting. Have a training plan (ie. Marathon on July 1st) which has my training plan for each day and tracking if I hit the mileage or time for each day. So I would get a visual of how I'm doing with training (green days are good, yellow are close to hitting the target and red not even close:)

I had Strava Summit before and I cancelled it. I just signed up again based on a recommendation thinking that I didn't understand correctly how the training plans work but in reality, I think what I'm expecting from them is different than what is being offered.

  • It sounds like several of us are interested in the same thing, creating our own structured training plans and just keeping track of it on a calendar with our workout data from strava being input to keep us on track. Has anybody gotten a response from Strava about this (these) inquiries?

Training Peaks does offer this feature, but it is a "pay to play" feature with their membership as well. I believe theirs is $10 a month. I tried the free trial membership and its pretty nice. Data uploads from my Garmin watch automatically and keeps on track with your workouts that you've scheduled on the calendar. Sorry Strava but i think i'm going to ditch Summit. It just doesn't offer anything that i need.

  • Yes great idea, I've been trying to figure out if this can be done.  Has anyone actually received a response from Strava?

  • This is also something I'd be interested in - I'm assuming this feature has not been added yet as I am unable to find it

  • Me too. What is the sense of a calendar if you cannot plan?!

  • Totally agree. I let my TP premium subscription lapse and now I find I cannot make a weekly training plan with Strava? We should be able to use plans other than "official" Strava plans.

  • I was just looking for a way of creating a plan. I am a coach and use TrainingPeaks but was hoping to help people use Strava as it is cheaper and has different features.

You can use a tool called Final Surge for planning and as a diary, it is free and has some nice planning and analysis features. You could combine it with Strava because it is easy to synchronise the two and then you would have both the benefits of planning and those of Strava but you would need to use two applications, which I don't mind but some might.

  • For anyone that might be interested, I made a simple little web app for this exact thing. (I made it for my marathon training this year). Some people may find it of use.

  • I thought of this today and then found this feed. I’d love a planning feature
