  • Carolyn Elliott - I really don't see why they should change anything.  It seems very simple.  KOM is defined as KING of the mountain, QOM is defined as QUEEN of the mountain.  They are simple gender notations, nothing more.  Nothing is saying KOM is better in any way than QOM.  Why would a female want to be listed as a King?  If you look at the leaderboard and a female has the fastest time, it lists the QOM at the top of the leaderboard where it belongs.  I would say that stands out more than if it were tagged with "KOM" and overlooked by most assuming it was a guy (because it says King of the Mountain, not because it is at the top of the list).

  • 8k needs to be added as a PR distance. It's one of the most common collegiate level running distances, and is popular at road races as well.

  • Give up section records.

Something there is GPS hiccup that makes you have a great record for a particular section but you know it's just that a GPS hiccup. A way to give up that section record without putting the whole race private will be a great way to keep a fair section score for all.

  • @kev fisher - if you make a segment of the entire route, you can use the segment “compare” feature. Just click on “ compare effort” and then sort by your own activities and select which ones you want to compare. It will work similar to the flyby and show you where along the route you were faster or slower.

I think what Ian is getting at is that KOM now seems kinda redundant.

The KOM/CR tab shows both, but what this means is that it obscures where a (male) athlete doesn't hold the CR and is perhaps only 2nd or 3rd all time.

Many (male) athletes will feel that "only" holding the KOM and not the CR is not a "real" KOM.

For a lot of very competitive athletes the whole KOM tab is quite important to them, but the current functionality of the list is very basic.

I would also add that from a female athletes point of view knowing which QOMs are also CRs would be very welcome. Currently the only way to find out is to click through hundreds of QOMs to check manually. This is obviously very tedious and causes extra server load.

  • I want a Top 10 of my personal achievements.  For example, a history of when I set each new mile PR. It will allow me to see how I've improved over time, to compare when and where I set my previous mile PR or my first mile PR. The reason that is important is because it will show how I've improved against myself. This exists for segments, I can see when I had my 2nd, 3rd and 4th best time on a segment so I can see how I've improved.  I would like the same for mile, 10k, 5k, half, marathon, etc.

    Thanks!

  • I suggest that Strava's desktop and mobile sites provide more information in the "My segments" page. By clicking on a segment, I can see how I've done in a variety of categories. I'm most interested in how I've done this year. I'd like to be able to see something like my performance this year--not just the KOM time and my time--by looking at the "my segments" page. I think this would help me to stay motivated year over year. Since there are some really good times from people that showed up once, but don't ride in my community regularly, it kind of ruins the competition if the goal of a KOM is unattainable. I find myself riding against other regular riders for top times for the year. But then I can't see that info in my segments. I have to navigate to a segment to see it. Also, all of the columns in the my segments page should be sortable so I can rank them by, for example: my time, KOM time, average grade, distance, goal time, rank for best time of year, etc.

  • We need Top 10 Achievements under the KOM/CR tab. Not many people will ever get a KOM/QOM but it would be nice to at least celebrate getting a Top 10 result. I mean, it's still pretty impressive if out of 5000 people you manage to get in the Top 10. Yeah you're not the fastest i.e. KOM/QOM, but you're definitely one of the best. Please let us peasants celebrate our achievements instead of hiding them away in the segment leader boards.

I have had a couple of KOM's in the past and I am holding one currently but they always get taken eventually. My profile looks bare but if it showed my Top 10 results I would have a bunch. It would be a nice little reminder every time I go to look at my trophy case that I am actually decent. Yeah I'm not the fastest but I'm still pretty good.

  • I'd really like to have a "season's best" as well as overall PRs.  This is a well-established concept in athletics, reflecting that performance changes over time, whether because of a specific event like injury & recovery, different levels of training done (we mostly have full-time jobs, families, and so on to fit around our sport!), or simply the harsh reality of aging.

When I first did some serious training using Strava to track my progress, the apparently relentless succession of PRs, taking a second or two here or there on segments I rode regularly, was a great source of motivation and sense of achievement.  Now, best part of 10 years later, and I rarely get PRs - I'm just older and getting slower as a result.  It would be really helpful to my training - and would encourage me to dig more into what Strava can do for me - to have something like this.  Either as a "PR/2nd/3rd bet time this year" or as a custom "give me PRs since <date>".  I'm not currently a subscriber but I would absolutely pay for this.

  • Kevin Caldwell

Some interesting ideas.  Today I completed a Segment in 1:06 for 2nd place on the leaderboard and the KOM is 1:00 (the Segment is quite new and not many people have attempted it).  If I understand your logic, the fact that there are theoretically 5 times available between me and the KOM puts me in 7th place ?  Rather than calling it "7th place" maybe just showing the number of seconds behind the leader would be simpler and more easily understood ?

The fact that you are shown as 30th on your example Segment is because 29 people have done it quicker than you.  That seems a fairly simple concept that I think most people would understand.

  • Miguel Oliveira - E-bikes have their own segments.  They have had them for years now.  E-bikers just need to actually make them just like regular bikers have to make their segments if they don't see one where they want one.  It is really simple.  If you want to compare against your friends who have e-bikes, you just need to make the segments you want to compare on just like you would with a regular bike.  Do a ride.  If you don't see a segment you want to see, click on "create a new segment" at the bottom of the segment list and then follow the instructions to make it.  You aren't being discriminated against.  You have your own category.

Additionally, you need to go back through your activities and make sure to change all of the rides you did on your e-bike to e-bike rides in Strava so you are not taking leaderboard spots, including KOMs, from people who legitimately earned them with regular bikes.

  • Barry Gray I try to explaining about virtual KOM´s with unrealistic low or high power:

    1. Zwift speed glitch (happens by accident - you speed up to 100km/h or more...)
    Example: https://www.strava.com/activities/3144797408/analysis

    2. meet up´s (with "keep all together" function activated)
you only need one rider suffering a speed glitch or unrealic high power numbers (see 4.) to speed up the hole group and showing all participents high in Segment rankings.
    Example: https://www.strava.com/activities/4016756931/analysis

    3. group workouts (with "keep all together" function activated) - same as 2.

    4. inaccurate setup showing 1200W or 2000W by accident (depending on model)
even zwift´s alert triangle and breaking due to "cone" is not sufficient to avoid those people taking several segments.
    Example: https://www.strava.com/activities/3221254319/analysis

    5. Zpower (estimating poweroutput by speed/cadence sensor -> higher cadence gives you unrealistic power output)
https://www.strava.com/activities/3028400446/analysis (compare cadence with power graph)

Those 5 reasons happens mostly by accident, but of course some peoble use it with intention, same as weight or hight settings...

As zwift unfortunatly shows no interest in slowing those errors down, it would need some automated tool by strava to solve the issue with segment rankings full of unrealistic efforts. So what still exists for outdoor cycling whould be needed for virtual cycling even more.

Another (and general) topic is the handling with flagging virutal activities:
There are so many activities who where flagged by the community multiple times, but were resolved by strava support which makes it impossible to flag them again. This issue upsets a lot of users like you can see on innumerable comments and negative feedback out of the communty.
    Example: https://www.strava.com/activities/651778151#52074350963

Would be easy to resolve, but would need strava to take action - let´s hope strava will help their image by improving transperency in virtual activities, too!

  • Would like to request a feature.

Please add a "consecutive days of activity" count.

This could be combined effort, or for individual activities. There should be a minimum required effort of distance and/or time.
Thinking 1 mile minimum or 20 minutes minimum.

The training log is just so so. Would be nice to just have a place that shows "consecutive days of activity"

  • I would like the ability to exclude specific gear from my segment records. I ride several bikes all of which have different characteristics and use an ebike for commuting. I still want to be able to record those rides (I use a heart rate tracker to help manage my calorie intake vs usage, so this is important to me), but don't want to include them in my achievements. It would also be useful to filter based on the gear used.

  • I am using an e-bike beside my regular bike and always categorize my e-bike rides that way. But since some time these rides pop-up in segments and in my stats. That's annoying, because I don't want to compare the speed on my e-bike with my regular bike.

I also see that on the segment my e-bike ride is compared with regular rides for other users.

See the screenshot below for what I mean. I am using Strava in the Netherlands.

  • Flat segments (sprints), should not have KOM so introduce Maillot Vert or MV

For very long segments (kms), do not have KOM but introduce Maillot Jaune or MJ

If you equal a KOM it does not show in the headlines or KOM/CR tab, so introduce a KOMe (equals) which is still well deserved. Similarly MVe and MJe

  • The way Strava handles goals really needs an overhaul. While there are graphics that show progress for some goals (i.e. annual and weekly distance goals) there are others for which there is no indication all. Also there seems to be a bit of hit and miss with respect to notification with respect to achieving goals. I seem to recall seeing notifications about reaching my weekly distance goals on some activities, however, there was no notification at all when I achieved my annual cycling distance goal.

At the end of 2020 I invested in a power meter and I set up a power goal in Strava of 300W for 20 minutes. I achieved this goal in a ride last weekend with 312W for 20 minutes. But there was no indication of this anywhere. Nothing on the ride overview page, nothing in the activity feed and no update of the power goal page itself.

In fact the power goal isn't even shown on the power curve for the ride itself.

The goal is correctly shown in the Best Efforts Power Curve available from the Training menu, but again there is no indication of the goal actually having been achieved even though the graph clearly shows that it has.

And most puzzling at all the goal overview page hasn't updated at all. The latest achieved result isn't shown and the countdown is continuing despite goal actually having been achieved.

Clearly there is some work to be done here in order to make this work. As it is I am left wondering why I am bothering to pay for a Strava subscription when even something as basic as this isn't working properly.

  • Jojo - Please look into the issue where people virtual rides on Zwift are getting imported into Strava as virtual runs instead.  This is suddenly happening ALL THE TIME!  It is messing up the challenges in Strava with a bunch of rides being listed as runs.  From what people are reporting, they are not able to go in an edit the activity type in Strava either, so they have no way to fix it.  According to the support response I got when I sent that it, they said that Strava is stripping the activity type out of the file when it strips the health data for people who haven't granted Strava permission to use/see their health data.  There is no reason Strava should be removing the activity type data from the file.  This should be an easy fix.

  • I would like to see categories for weights be expanded to be more inclusive of the larger bodied riding community. Right now the highest category for Top 10's is 250lbs +. As a 300lbs+ rider, I can tell you that there is not really a comparison to the efforts of a 253lb rider and a 330lb rider. And as a paying customer that is obese I feel that there should be more inclusion for heavier riders so that they can better gauge where their efforts fall with others in their weight group. If I was 80lbs lighter, sure I'd be faster but the reality is I'm not but I still ride regularly and would like to see how my efforts stack up to people that weigh more closer to my weight than someone who's 80 lbs lighter than me.

  • regarding KOMs and "Cups" (10th through 2nd).

FIRST: i've noticed that KOMs are NOT added to one's profile page if: A) they are shared; B) if the segment is flagged as dangerous.

    A) ... i suppose it could be like 'Highlander', and "There Can Be Only ONE!" (and, it's worth striving for the top top spot for sure ;-)... but otherwise, even if shared, it is ON the  LEADER BOARD, and, seems like the KOM (or Cup - more on this below) should be listed under one's profile (i track them to make intervals and efforts more fun).

B)... i understand the concern over publishing leader boards of dangerous cycling segments, but, the achievements should STILL APPEAR on one's profile page if one has been through the waiver process, OR, that KOM/CR was achieved PRIOR to whomever complained and flagged the segment (most often disgruntled riders, drivers, or others).  aside from 'strava stalkers' nobody would finding these on an individuals profile page, or, otherwise, the leader boards are still visible to those that sign the waiver, so, why wouldn't the achievement be available for my profile page?

Now, speaking of tracking segments to make training efforts more fun... it would be super if on my own profile, i could see which CUPS i had (10th -> 2nd), so i could design rides that included these segments as goals in a structure of my ride, WITHOUT having to track them otherwise, or, search back through my ride history... it could be private, or public... i don't care, but, i would like to have access to the segments where i am in the top 10 on leader boards.

    THANK YOU STRAVA TEAM!!

  • I did a quick search and did not see anything - forgive me if I missed it -

I would love to see a personal leaderboard of "best w/kg" on cycling segments.  This is because most PRs are wind-aided and pushing into a headwind would surely be interesting as your best w/kg may  not always allow for the best time.

  • Have you thought about creating an icon for segments when you get a Power (cycling) PB (so to account for headwinds when you don't get a time PB)

  • All too often, e-bike riders are uploading their activities as standard cycling activities instead of an e-bike ride.

In Strava settings under 'My Gear' there is the 'Add Bike' button. When clicked the 'Add a Bike' dialogue pops up, one of these fields is called 'Types' ... there is NO 'E-BIKE' option here! Only 'Road, Mountain, TT & Cross' are available to select from. I think Strava should have 'E' versions of these. So when an activity is uploaded using this bike then in, the 'Edit Activity' area the 'Sport' section would automatically be changed to 'E-Bike Ride' and would not have to be manually changed.

I think this would reduce those ebike riders who have no idea or don't know how to change/select their activities 'Sport' type.

Personally, I am using a Garmin Edge 830, under your Activity Profiles you can set the Default Ride Type to 'eBike' and when an activity is uploaded to Strava its already set as an 'E-Bike Ride'

  • Can you make live segments available for the ebike category. I pay extra money for access to this feature and I keep waiting for it to be available.

This was mentioned above and I totally agree. I emailed Strava about this issue a few days ago, this is their reply:

Thanks for writing in Nic about E-Bike activities. Since E-Bikes are not the same as standard bikes they cannot compete against other cyclist on our 'ride segment leaderboards'. At this moment in time, we do not have live segments for E-Bike specific rides.

We are still working on improving our E-Bike activity type and appreciate your feedback.

    And I replied back with:

I understand this. On my Garmin device, I have my default activity type set to ebike which uploads every ride to Strava as an ebike ride. Now only ebike specific segments are shown and I am only competing with other ebike riders, not non-ebike cyclists.

I read an article back from July 2015 which is titled "Strava and Garmin introduce on-device Live Segments for Edge series". This is approx around 6 years ago! Which is around the time e-bikes were starting to take off.

So, given that we're talking approx 6 years ago that you introduced live segments I am really surprised that you use the words, "At this moment in time.." and "We are still working on improving our E-Bike activity type". You've really got to wonder how much time does Srava need to make live segments work for e-bikes??

It can't be too difficult behind the scenes to get this working as rides tagged as ebike already have their own separate segments anyway.

After that Strava replied by leading me to this "Improved Community Forum" area. So that's were I am sharing my feedback.

  • Hi,

I still find there is only partial support for people who walk. Usually, there is an option for choosing "Run" or "Swim" but not "Walk".

I have a major problem with my heart, and whilst I enjoy all the Strava Leaderboards, data etc. I would like to see "Walking" as an option or filter everywhere that "Running" and "Swimming" appear.

The present feature-set feels like discrimination against all people who can walk but not run or swim.

    Thank you.

  • 'Exclude activity from my achievements' option

The other day Polar watch recorded a run with some wack GPS  instead of a road run it looks like a did some mountain summits instead.

I did do the “report GPS problem” thing for this run (i actually had to ask a friend, it was not in the most discoverable place) but this doesn't seem to do anything other than send feedback.

However, it would be great to have a check/switch to “exclude gps from activity” or (even better) “exclude activity data from my achievements” because I want the HR data (for training monitoring purposes) but don’t want to have a PR for something I didn’t do.

  • I often see segments matching in activities that were not actually ridden in that ride. An example would be a single track MTB trail adjacent to a roadway that is matching when I took the road surface. I would like the ability to remove these unridden segments from my ride so that when I look at the MTB segment, I can see my best results where I was actually on that segment.
