Add direct Support for Samsung Gear devices

As Samsung Gear devices are becoming more popular, there should be a direct support for these devices.

I know there is a link between the S health app and Strava but there are issues with syncing the workout data to Strava. Also, S health does not export HR information which I believe a lot of people care about.

This is why I think there should be a direct support for the Gear devices

    Thanks everyone for the comments.

I have no updates to share on Strava supporting Gear devices directly. I hope you can continue using the S Health sync and please send any feedback about syncing issues or heart rate data over to them.

  • I second that request. I have the new Gear S3 and data is not coming over expeditiously. However not sure this is a Strava problem or Samsung?

  • Couldn't agree more. In an age of instant everything, the current issue-ridden, delayed integration between Gear devices and Strava is extremely poor. Users of both products would highly value direct support; without this, I suspect Samsung and Strava's competitors would find this frailty an easy one to challenge.

  • I agree. Strava should run on the watch and there's no debate as to why not. People have used the app for years and Samsung need to work with Strava to sort this out. Strava should not be solely for one watch i.e apple. The app can be downloaded for all phones and should be available for all watches.

  • I support the idea to create a standalone app for gear s2, s3 and gear fit2.

  • C'mon Strava. Samsung are knocking it out of the park with their Gear S range... it's the device everyone wants. Development of a native app for the device is a no-brainer surely. After all your rivals are doing it...

  • Endomondo which is a competitor of Strava, have already announced that they will release a native app for the Gear devices. So unless Strava change their mind about not supporting the Gear devices directly then I'm guessing they will lose a lot of customers to Endomondo.

  • Yes for native app!
I will move to Endomondo if we don't get support and ask my running friends to also. Even today social networks do come and go so Strava should be careful.

  • Yes, please add support for the Samsung devices. Just moved from a Fitbit surge and am sad to see the more expensive and really cool gear s3 not sending heart rate etc.

  • Yes, you need to support the Gear S3. S-health does not transmit accurate information. I mountain bike a lot and got several KOM's when using S-Health linked to Strava. Normally I am nowhere close. Had to delete the rides to keep the KOM's where they belong!

    Please support the Gear S3!!!!!!!

  • I'm also really wanting to see this for my Gear S3. There aren't any good running apps for the platform

  • I agree, please add Strava support! I had an Android Wear device and I liked the app support, but the watch and OS was poor. The Gear S3 and Tizen are far superior. Please add support!

  • A native Strava app is definitely needed. For cycling I prefer my Garmin Edge 520 but for daily use, small runs and commuting I prefer to use S Health and send it to Strava. It has never been possible to auto sync S Health & Strava, I manually upload without a heart rate data on it.

Such a disappoinment for a  smartwatch like this.

  • What do we want? A Strava app for the Tizen OS!

When do we want it? Whenever the Strava developers who are probably overworked and under paid can make it!

  • Another one requesting a native app here. Would be awesome. Probably make me take up a premium subscription to be honest.

  • Agreed! Otherwise I'm going to have to abandon both platforms!

  • Yes please, native apps for Samsung Devices – also the FitBit2 – should be much higher on Strava's agenda now that the market is warming up and competitors are already getting involved (and in parts lead the pack).

  • I don't understand why Strava is not leaving any direct response stating exactly why it hasn't produced an app for gear s3 when it has done for Apple and Android wearable.

S health doesn't cut it. Doesn't save data properly nor sync the data when it should.

The whole point of a fitness smart watch is so you can upload via strava.

Samsung and Strava needs to sort this out.

  • Yup this needs to happen... Even if at first receives HR info from the watch. ideally, you would start strava from the watch (like you can with the apple watch).
