Real-time Audio Feedback for Heart Rate in the Strava App

I really value the need to know my heart rate during cycling as it allows for me to train in a specific zone and know when to conserve and when to punch. I understand that I can see my heart rate on my cell phone screen. However, as many cyclists realize, cell phones do not replace cycling computers ...yet, due to many cons: screen difficult to see in sunlight (which is when cyclists like to cycle during the day with sun light), and the battery drains very quickly with the screen on all the time.

It would be great if Strava allows for real time audio feedback for heart rate. At this time I have to use a competitor app, Runtastics, just to get real time audio feedback of my heart rate at a user configurable time interval. The Strava app is great. But the lack of this feature is a setback which forces users to use competitive products.

  • would be great to have.  I run with my screen switched off... so currently I can only view heart rate at end of fun - would be helpful to have periodic guidance on the go!

  • A temporary workaround is to use the Wahoo Fitness app.  It has a massive amount of customizable audio messaging.  It has one button upload to Strava, I actually use it as my primary mobile tracking app rather than the Strava mobile.

  • Ahhh, they are iPhone centric but they do have a beta out.  I tested one of their iPhone betas and they were pretty responsive to feedback so now is you chance to get in on the Android version.  http://support.wahoofitness.com/entries/22766104-Wahoo-Fitness-for-Android-Beta-is-here-

  • I bought a heart rate monitor with the plan to run within a certain zone, rather than measure my ongoing performance by speed/pace. Doing this would compare apples to apples, e.g., a good effort on a very hot and humid day will result in a slower speed/pace than on an ideal day. But Strava's features don't facilitate this use at present. Competitors do, e.g., Run Double does a nice job. C'mon Strava!
