Strava for Adventure Motorcycle and Moto-X Communities

Recently, I did an experiment with the Strava App during a dirt bike ride through Ocotillo Wells.  As suspected, the Strava App worked great, minus the obvious—“Calories” burned.  I suspect that this might be in question since I was not wearing a heart monitor, and I was not riding my bicycle.  That said, I really see an opportunity to service a whole other market that is lacking the level ease and detail Strava can provide.  What I am suggesting is a re-brand, sister app (based on the current Strava App) specifically targeted for the Adventure / Dirt Bike / Moto-Cross rider.  This off-shoot of the popular Strava App would maintain the current features, update the algorithm for calorie consumption, and provide the user with a setting to account for laps automatically. The new feature of accounting for laps can provide increased detail; with split times, best lap, average lap time etc… thus providing a training tool that I foresee many riders would take seriously. By providing this capability to the Adventure / Dirt Bike / Moto-Cross rider, Strava can easily establish itself as the affordable, premier GPS athletic activity tracking option for motorcycle enthusiasts.

You can add your vote here to help us decide which activities the community most wants to see added to Strava.

Adding an activity option for motocross, motorcycle rides, or other types of motor-sports is not under consideration at Strava. I hope we can consider this request at a future time.

Please be sure to use the "Hide from Segment Leaderboards" option when uploading a motor-assisted ride activity. With this option enabled, your segment efforts will still appear under "My Results" for analysis. You can select this privacy setting on an individual activity, or you can go to your account settings to hide your segment times by default on all new uploads.  It is the activity owner's responsibility to correctly upload their data according to our Segment Leaderboard Guidelines. Thanks.

  • This would be awesome, for those of us that use cycling/running as training for motorcycle racing.  There is a fairly large community that races endure/harescrambles/motocross that I believe would use this.

  • They could use it for far more than dirt bikes. Snowmobiles? Side by sides? 4 wheelers? All could have their own designation.

  • I just enter them as an 'other' activity type.

  • It would be nice! But I think it would be better to have all activities in the same app!

  • Please add motorbike feature.  I use strava to train for my enduro training and I don't really like picking MTB but I do because its the closest thing to it.  I would be super pumped and mtb would also be happy because I wouldn't be messing them up

  • i have the same problem and i wear a heart rate monitor while riding.  i am training for an event and the Strava results for calories are not helpful.

I see a lot of requests for this and no responses from Strava development?

    best regards

  • agreed a great idea. if starva offers it i believe it will be widely used. if starva does not offer it, folks will just use the bike app and post amazing times. starva should also eliminate STRAVE as the autocorrect when typing STRAVA

  • I'd like this feature.  I have a dual sport.  I'd like to be able to go survey roads in my free time for my buddies and I to go ride later - the cost of 15km dead end roads is a lot less on a 200k motorcycle ride than a bike ride.  But I don't want to KOM every ride when I put the ride in as a "ride".  the "other" category doesn't exist anymore, maybe I'll just call my motorbike rides yoga sessions or something.

  • I have to be honest, I've been using the bicycle mode for dirtbiking. I know this messes up everyones stats so I only use it on trails that are extremely unlikely to see cyclists. Having said that it really shouldn't be too hard to add a dirtbike mode and strip out all the cardio stuff to streamline the interface (heck, leave it in if it's easier, I just won't look at it)

  • Here's another vote for a "motorcycle" category. Strava works great for tracking offroad dirtbike rides. I typically create "private" segments for my motorcycle rides. It would be nice to have the option to select "motorcycle" rather than "mountain bike."

  • Strava are you reading this? We need it. At the very least, use have a completely built out platform that can re-named and made for motorized vehicles. I know of dozens of guys in my area, who use strava for dirt biking, and save it as ice skating, wind surfing, or other abstract sports. (That would never happen on a trail.) Com on Strava!!

  • My guess is liability and street racing get into this pretty soon, which is unfortunate.  Personally I'd like it just from a tracking/adventure standpoint as that's what I use my dual sport for, and I'm perhaps one of the rare users who's objective is to explore out gravel roads, trails, cutlines for suitability to our big cycling adventures.  I'm not aware of as easy a tracking interface for dirtbikes.  Personally I'd rather not just use "bicycling" as my setting as I do try not to screw up mine, and others, strava times.

  • What is taking so long strava!!! Use all the same data from bicycle and just re name a new category as off-road. Seems like more and more strava users want it, how many request do we need befor it becomes a reality?

  • I opened a new ticket on this topic and Strava closed it due to lack of activity. This request is way down the list of things wanted.  i continue to be eliminated from KOM offroad and based on my speed it looks like the other persons on motor bikes too,  wonder when this conflict between motorcycles and bicycles will get fixed by Strava, it can not be difficult?

  • Andrew Stump, if you are setting KOMs for cycling on a motorcycle, you should be getting booted. This is another reason Strava needs to add new types.

  • Full functionality would be epic. Fitness, speed and all of the data and local competition is critical to getting better and faster and having more fun. We need this. I am surprised they won't do it.

  • Hello Kyle MacDermaid.  i fully agree with you and it annoys me that i can not track my motorcycle training because there is no selection activity available.  however in contrast i can see the KOM and the top 10 are running the same times within seconds on umarked trails that are nigh on impossible to ride on downhill mountain bikes due to the type of terrain.   the mroe we discuss here the higher the chance of us getting a change through.  other requests are running into 100 or more comments and supporters.  this request is well below in the hit rate and we need to push the topic if we want this strava prodcut to develop.  otherwise switch to Garmin products and use garmin connect to track motorcycling.

  • Bad idea.

There's too many guys riding well beyond their skill level out on the trails, we don't need to provide an incentive to create more.  Head-ons are no good.  I've been in plenty with guys that are riding well beyond there capabilities.

As too, at least in CA, the last thing we need to do is make some trails public.  There are many entities out there trying to find reasons to shut down more and more of our OHV trails.  Tracking many of these rides will simply give our opposition much more to use against us.
