  • How is there no setting to automatically hide heart rate data on all uploads?  Currently, I have to manually hide heart rate from each individual event. If I completely turn off heart rate tracking, then I lose access to my heart rate data.  Given how important user privacy is in this day and age, I can't believe how long strava has been dropping the ball on this...  I have tried to talk to support about this, but the representative I spoke with just gave a canned reply. Frustrating

  • I waited patiently for 2 years for this feature, but in Feb 2016 when my subscription is up, I'm not renewing it. I'm voting with my valet. Without this feature Im out. it is my data and I would like to have ability to show/hide every aspect of it.

  • I did give up. Everyone thinks I don't ride anymore because I use a different tracking site.

How hard is it to add a little check mark to each cycling dynamic and have it be private or public?

You guys spend too much time worrying about the beacon feature which is just as unreliable as"live track"

  • Thank you Brad for the insight.

I do want people in my training groups etc to see when, where, how long, what route or sport I have done. Compete in segments etc but I don't want my specific training data to be available (when I do intervals, what wattage, how long, how many, or what my race wattage has been etc).

  • Still nothing on this? I have been making my rides private for the past 7 months! Come on Strava, it's a basic privacy concern.
Getting very annoying keeping rides private - not taking part in segments, challenges etc. Have been a premium member for 2 years, won't be for much longer!

  • I just don't want my brother to see that I have a power meter...  :-)

  • This needs to be implement. While i dont mind showing my HR data, I know many people who dont want to, and they are not using Strava because of it.

  • Hello,

This is obvious that Strava is reluctant to hide HR and power output !

First, a skilled webmaster would need 1 hour to implement them. A beginner would need 1 day.

Second, Strava is a reality show !!! It is absolutely necessary to enter in people life to make Strava attractive.

Strava is like a zoo where riders are the animals...

  • I would upgrade to premium if it was an option to hide power data. I got a new power meter and am not interested in sharing that much data with others. I like the social aspect of STRAVA, but will either leave STRAVA or make all my rides private.

  • I just sent this to strava support.

    https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/263625

Me and others are very concerned about the lack of support of this request.

As I understand the person reading this is not responsible for the decisions made to the website features, maybe it can be forwarded to the appropriate person in charge of the features.

This request can't be that hard to implement, since we have seen Pros get this luxury.

Strava Premium is useless if we can't customize what we want to be seen publicly.

    thanks in advance

  • I would also like to have this option!

I don't care if other people look at my data, but what, if companies start doing so? What, if my health insurace company sees my heart rate data and some weird algorithm says my heart is not working 100% correct (or I am just exercising too strong) and I have to pay more for the insurance in the future? Fast forward 10 years to the future and I think we will have this kind of situation! And of course, they will be really happy to look at past data for a better analysis.

Maybe, from Stravas point of view, this could also be a real selling point for Premium! (The "hide" option, not the selling of data to insurance companies ;)

  • Dear Elle, STRAVA representative,

I appreciate the hard work that you and STRAVA do to help us share our cycling adventures among friends. However, your comment today regarding the option of hiding power/heart rate data (https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/208835687/comments/205064584) really comes off as lip service since this thread has been around for over 2 years and you originally posted that it seemed like a reasonable feature enhancement request back in 2014 (https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/208835687/comments/211902487). I'm sure that anyone that has followed this thread for the past couple of years has given up, avoiding a premium subscription to STRAVA, and finding alternative biomonitoring software like Golden Cheetah.

I'm a ride leader for a large cycling club in northern California and like to share my ride routes, distance, and frequency of riding to inspire and encourage others in our club to ride. However, I would prefer to keep some of my performance data private.

    Sincerely,

    Brian

P.S. (edit) It appears that Elle's original comment from 11/7/2016 at 11:36 & delivered via email by subscribing to this feature idea may have disappeared...

  • Two years later, ....

    Elle Anderson

Thanks for all the great feedback on this topic, and Kevin thanks for linking your tool.

I think this is a reasonable feature enhancement request, and I'm going to put this on the list for consideration by our developers. We'll have to wait and see what happens, as I'm not able to determine if we can fit it in in the near future.

  • I would like to become a Premium Member but I won't pay until the I have the ability to control what data others can see on my activities. There's a guy I ride with who picks on me about my heart rate, etc. and giving him access to my exact power and heart rate data at an exact moment is just fodder for more abuse. It's disappointing to see so many requests for this feature go ignored for so many years.

  • I'd like to be able to capture and track power and HR data against each activity, but I don't want to have to share that information with everyone when I'm preparing for an event.

Is there an update on this one?

  • Elle,

It's been almost a year since you responded to this thread. Any progress on this issue?

  • Hi guys,
a few months ago I wrote to the support asking for information about https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/208835687-Hide-Power-or-Heart-Rate-data-on-an-Activity .
Mrs Elle Anderson replied to me writing
"I'd be happy to pass your comments along to our team. Privacy features are very important to us and we are interested in a feature for our members to hide heart rate and power.

    -Elle
    Manager, Strava Feedback Team"

    After this answer nothing more.

If everyone write to the support asking for information about https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/208835687-Hide-Power-or-Heart-Rate-data-on-an-Activity maybe Strava will understand that it's a feature to be developed...

  • Ciao Elle,
thank you for your quick answer and it's true, when I wrote to you, your response was accurate.
I hope the feature will be planned soon.
Just one think: you wrote "We will do our best this year to see if this feature is possible" but we all know this feature is possible because it exists for professional athletes... so I don't understand why it isn't implemented for the other users.
    Grazie
    Ciao

  • To be polite I can't imagine how could be such simple question discussed within a Strava team for four years without any answer/decision..

  • " If privacy is a top priority for Strava then why is this request still open after three years ? Heart rate is by nature, private." Heart rate is our privacy. We will hide heart rate. DO it.

  • It has become very obvious the commitment Strava has for customer data. It has now been exposed by several major television channels world wide the failures of Strava to take into consideration the data privacy of their client base.

This support request has been going on for years now, don't expect Strava to do anything, Ride on...

  • I attended an international IT conference today. The key note speaker used Strava as an example of a company that has serious disregard for privacy.

  • This thread has been around since 2014 and the best response from Strava is "we have a working group." Sounds to me like Strava doesn't care much about this topic. This isn't a hard feature. Either show the data or not and give users the right to choose. Not much different than making an activity public or private. I am at the point of ditching this platform over the issue.

  • To hide the hart rate would be nice.

Very quick is Strava, the question is form 2014???

  • Why strava don't care about our sensible data? Are you sell this data to other company like facebook...

  • I certainly do not understand why it is still not possible to hide powermeter and heart rate date, although strava users are asking for it since 4 years.

I would like to share some of my rides on strava, but I am certainly not willing to share my private power and heart rate date, because that´s something personal and nobodys buisness but mine. As long as it is not possible to hide powermeter data I see my self forced not to upload more rides, sorry guys :-(

  • Now we just need this feature for POWER....

I don't really care about people seeing my heart rate as it's no indicator to performance.
