  • I just terminated Premium to the next date with the reason of this missing feature. I reorder as soon if the feature is implemented. But perhaps than I won't miss the Premium features at all. The Pros can use it, so it's obvious that strava is kidding us. This should be punished and one of the best punishments is ending the Premium membership, best would be ending membership at all.

  • @ Syntax Error What gives you Premium? Heart rate analysis? You got that for free at TrainingPeaks. I've dropped Premium last year and keep all my activities private. I refuse to be an animal in the ZOO.

  • STRAVA is collecting all our health data, the more data they can get from all GARMIN, FITBIT, SUUNTO etc devices the more value their database will be. One day they will be approached by HEALTH CARE COMPANIES and make money out of their database. The response that they have a "Group that is working on this" was send to me in 2016 as well, its a joke and they are literally keeping us all busy with these responses and definitely are not doing anything about this.

  • Yep, exactly what Eric said.

I was debating about going Premium (I pull my data from Suunto, my setup anyway), thinking I wanted to not push all my HRM data for consumption, but apparently not-so-much.

I done s/w engineering for a long time, and this is VERY clearly not a priority for them, likely because if they can delay it long enough, they can sell the data (and ongoing if never implemented), for a VERY large, ongoing rate (depending on pool-size and anonymity).

If they made this a "Premium Feature", I'd sign up, even though Strava isn't my primary platform for my data.

For now, I guess I'll just strip it off, before it gets pushed, kind of a big pain though, since I have to also make sure it never gets pushed (picked up in a later sync).

Suunto allows me to keep this data completely private, probably because they're based outside the US.

  • By the way, there is neither powermeter nor heart rate data available on Chris Froomes account. Do you really believe that he is training without these devices?

I´ve stopped uploading my trainings on Strava. If it is still not possible to hide powermeter and heart rate data by the beginning of August (2,5 months left) I leave Strava ...

  • Jess,

Strava has been saing the same thing since 2014. This support thread is a joke. Forget it.

  • At least there is a new person responding to the "issue". Elle had to take the brunt of those unsatisfied with the response/activity on this 'issue'. Of course there have been only three or so responses from Strava and have changed from 'this request is on our list' to 'We are working on this feature, but I currently do not have an ETA for you' That's the progress in four and a half years, keep up the good work.

    Elle - November 07, 2016 21:36:
"Your privacy is a top priority for us and we have created a working group to discuss privacy improvements. This request is on our list, and I will keep everyone informed of it's status going forward. "

Odiously, privacy is of no concern to Strava, good that you left that part out in latest response.

  • Nobody asked for deleting data. Strava must intellectually disabled, for lack of a better word.

  • This thread can not be closed, Tommy. The power data can not be removed.
That means I have to manually upload rides with stripped power.
That also means I will not go premium until this option is implemented.

Where I ride scumbags rob bikes at gunpoint. Why would I advertise my power meter on local segments?

  • On the android app.
    Go to your activity.
    Edit it..
At the bottom there is a toggle to "Hide heart rate" for that activity.
This became visible for me approximately 2-4 weeks ago.

  • Kevin, How does that hide the power fit file? We do not want to manipulate the file or change the data.

  • Keep in mind that this tool generates a brand new file -- but with power (or any field) removed. That said, I get the point that it would be great to have this feature in Strava. That's why I implemented the 3rd party tool. Feel free to use (or not use!) until Strava provides field hiding. Thanks!

  • Thanks Kevin, not all trying to downplay your work :) It's definitely appreciated, and considering most of us upload to 23543242 sites as it is, ie... garmin, strava, runkeeper, ridewithgps etc. etc... whatever else people upload to lol.... what's another step really?

  • ^ +1 for Colin Ayer.  I have some bad power meter data on a few rides that skew my records but I dont want to delete the ride.  Very annoying.

Mfg Herbert Kulzer

  • Note that Garmin Connect provides now a segment analysis with real privacy settings ! In your profile, you can choose to participate or not in leaderboard and you can choose who can see your activities (all, you or your contacts).

  • I would even say HR should even be private by default

  • I contacted Strava via a support ticket highlighting this page as an example (there's others too) but the gist of the answer I received back what that they have no interest (don't give a shit) in implement this 'feature'.

I urge you all to contact the support department with a quick email, lodge a support ticket with them, and highlight/include the url to this page.

It's either too hard for their programmers or they don't care, but I'll gladly sign back on for Premium if they implement, other I can happily do with out my digital badge trophy case (lmao)

  • It's really boring not being able to choose. It's a simple function, why don't add it???

  • I think striking a balance is necessary. I completely agree hiding HR and Power data would be useful for many (very) serious athletes. I think that option would see many more from that target market join.

I do think it is important for HR data and Power to be displayed on Leaderboards though (regardless of whether the user has made them private), as one big factor of the site is the focus around "proving it".

If the competition you are trying to hide the data from is determined (desperate) enough to track down the segments you frequent in order to try glean your HR data or wattage, then so be it. Because if that's the case they'd likely find another way (check the rides of those you train with).
