Enter Elevation data for a Manual Activity entry

I run on the treadmill and I typically run on an incline. I like to record my ascent for week, it wold be nice to add the miles on the treadmill to the total.

  • In my mind this is an absolutely essential feature to add. I think maybe they don't allow it so that people don't "cheat" by putting in more elevation gain than they actually got. But if they are worried about that, they should just not include manual entries in the calculation for leaderboards and challenges. However, for my personal use, it is essential that I can input manual elevation gain on activities, because without that ability my stats are off. In order to calculate elevation gain for the year, I have to look at what Strava says I have, plus manually go through my activities and see which ones where I put the elevation gain in the title.

  • I can understand that manual elevation entry might be problematic where Strava might be used for Challenges or Contests; Outside of that arena, for personal training and recording, it seems reasonable to be able to correct your ride when phones or gamins fail.

  • As this 'feature request' goes back over year... It makes me wonder if Strava is reading this. I am going to check Garmin Connect and see if they have it. Since Garmin Connect data is linked to Strava - that might be a work around since Strava appears to have 'stalled' on this feature. As Trail Running and Ultra's are becoming so popular, I have a feeling that some other smart software company with a focus outside of TRIs may be interested. Strava does offer a lot...

  • GC has manual elevation entry. But the manual entry there doesn't port over. The data from GPS watches must go to Strava directly bypassing GC.

  • I'd highly appreciate if you can add this feature. I spent a hour running up and down stadium stair but my gps watch recorded only -1 m elevation :v So I decided to add my work out manually but surprise, no such thing like add the elevation (I intended to multiple the stair section height with num. of turn). This is an important statistic factor and moreover, some challenges count it :(

  • I would really like to add manual elevation data.

I did a ride last year on an established course which due to a bizarre failure of both Garmin (batteries expired) and my phone, neither recorded the data for the ride.

I've managed to enter the distance for the ride, but it is so frustrating that nearly a 1000m of climbing is omitted from my stats.

    PLEASE add this feature!!!

  • How soon can this be available? I commute every day and do not want to record 6 miles and 600 feet each day with the Garmin..just want to add weekly stats to my activities and only record the workouts I do. THANK YOU!

  • Strava, pleasseee add manual elevation gain. Would be a great feature. There are mountains all around me, and I'd love to be able to keep track of this. Thanks!

  • Another vote for manual entry of elevation.   Since manual entry for time and distance is already included adding elevation would be no different.

  • It would be very helpful since I just had a run on my Garmin jack up and now I can't upload the mileage to include the climbing for the challenge I'm currently doing.

  • Michael Henson, even if they add this feature, it wouldn't help your situation as there's no way they would allow manual entry data to go towards challenges (which makes sense).

  • Greg, there are no awards for these challenges. The whole thing is based in an honor code. If people really wanted to cheat, satellite won't stop them. They can record a run on a bicycle for example. Software to manipulate data. It's all a game. Just include the thing already. How many people have to ask for this, Strava??!!

  • Please add this feature. I just had a climbing challenge bike ride with my buddy at lunch time and forgot to launch my Strava before we went. So I had to copy his data but there is no place to enter this particularly important piece of info that I need.

    Please.... add it.

  • In my case, my gps 'failure' was in my head, I forgot my Garmin for a major hill climb bike ride. I would like to see that 3400 feet elevation in addition to the 31 miles (both determined using http://www.gmap-pedometer.com) in my total elevation for the year. This is just personal, no contests or goals. I agree with the commenter who pointed out that ANY aspect of manual entry could be 'cheating' to get to a goal -- we all have to realize this is all just a game, if people want to cheat, that's their issue. For me, I just like to track things personally, so PLEASE ADD ELEVATION GAIN TO MANUAL ENTRY!!! Thanks

  • Another looooong list of people asking for features to be added to the manual entry. Just like the other list (adding routes), this is seemingly being ignored by Strava. So much for it being a community. :/

  • People can already BS their distance if they wanted to, but it doesn't count towards challenges.  Why not have it for elevation as well?  It makes sense to me - especially for those folks riding in groups that experience the common Garmin freezing up, or other GPS issues.

  • Please add this feature. I have just returned from a trip to France where I enjoyed several fabulous rides. When I got home I discovered that my GE800 had recorded GPS data for all eight rides but remains resolutely 'Unrecognised' by any computer. I have entered manual ride data for each of the excursions but currently cannot include the climbing value for any of them. If climbing data could be manually entered then I would be able to see my 'Highest Climb' statistic correctly shown as 1500 metres (+) in my Rider Profile.

  • Yes, I'd like to see this feature.  To take it a step further, I'd like to be able to enter a route that I rode, when I did not have a GPS device with me, such as the Strava feature to 'create a route'.  The down side may be that people could log rides that they did not ride --  but that is their issue.
