Fitness and Freshness graph for Run activities

I, as most use Strava for running and cycling.  I don't know the actual calculation, but the tool Training Peaks allows you to map your TSS, IF and training stress balance for running.  This would be a great feature to add in to help with training for events.

  • Elle,

I was a premium subscriber but dropped Strava for Sport Tracks for the ATL and CTL tracking, as well as their health graphs on their website. I'd come back to Strava if this was implemented for running and swimming.

  • I'm a runner and cyclist (actually tri but I can do with the swimming not taken into account for now although should be possible with manual activity?) and the current fitness/fatigue figures doesn't mean anything for me at this stage as it is totally skewed due to running activities not taken into account. Me too will have to cancel my strava premium membership and keep on using other software for the time being till running is added to strava fitness and freshness. My worry however is that this was suggested more than a year ago and since the freshness and fitness feature can now also use only heart rate and not just power meters, it should be simple to add running activities?

  • I'm in the same boat. The current graph is of little value if I do any other kind of training than cycling. If the graph could be configured to use only heart rate and show all my activities with heart rate, it would be perfect. I do cycle, but I don't own a powermeter currently.

  • I'm also considering dropping Strava premium in favor of some other service. Havig running and other (HR based) activities covered by the fitness&freshness would definitely keep me in!

  • My premium membership has expired and I have no plans to renew it unless Strava decides to provide this feature.

  • This would be the greatest ever. More work should be done for running in the system.

  • This is also a critical feature for me to renew Strava Premium.

If Strava's dedication to app development was as enthusiastic as selling overpriced equipment/wear, it would be an amazing app.
When was the last big software update?

  • Please add fitness and freshness for Runners.. pretty please

  • Can't believe this has been requested for so long, with no action on it - surely this is fairly straightforward to implement? I used a standalone tool, purely for Training Stress Balance, and I could ditch it if this was implemented for running in Strava...

  • Elle,

It's disappointing that there are no plans to implement this feature given that Strava already have sufferscore which is similar to TSS. There is clearly demand for this feature - is the number of users who both run and cycle so low that it's not deemed a priority? What about those runners who wish for similar capabilities and have no way to track form over time?

A missed opportunity to really enhance one of the better feature in Strava - I question whether premium membership is worth it if there is limited development on premium only features such as this one.

    Regards,
    Tim

  • Got myself a Polar V800 multisports watch early September. Still upload activities to Strava as it has a nice social network. On recovery status I now rely on Polar Flow which works awesome giving recovery times for any fitness/sport activity. So far so good.

  • I would also like to voice my desire to see the fitness and freshness feature include running suffer scores.  It seems like it would be a fairly simple thing to do, to incorporate the heart stress from running (or any other activity for that matter) into the calculation of cumulative fitness and freshness.

  • It's insane to me that this hasn't been done yet. I just signed up for the beta app that allows ANT+ connection on Android... but what good does it do me if my heart rate data on runs isn't even calculated in with my fitness/freshness graph?

  • How about Fitness and Freshness with ANY activity that includes heart rate data? Doubt anyone here 100% cycles or 100% runs. I nordic ski in the winter when the roads are nasty and I watch my "fitness" dwindle despite me probably maintaining or even increasing fitness through skiing. Then when I start to bike again my Fitness and Freshness Graph becomes pretty much inaccurate.

  • Just adding a comment to say i'd like that feature very much myself!

    Would saying "please" help? ;)

  • I use SportTracks, and the main features I use on it are training load and matched runs. After Strava added trending runs, that just leaves Training Load - no idea why Strava are extending this out - or at least communicating something on it!

  • i signed up for premium this month. Now that i've seen that running (and swimming) is not included in the F/F chart i shall be cancelling at the end of the month. Thanks.

  • Hi All - I don't think this is ever going to happen on Strava.

I've started using Polar Flow recovery status which incorporates training load from all activities: http://www.polar.com/us-en/support/training_load_and_recovery_status_features_in_polar_flow

It's been incorporated as a firmware upgrade for a wide range of devices including recently the Polar M400. Flow also syncs to Strava, but does have it's own issues, such as not allowing import of activities through gpx/tcx files.

  • Well, since this post is nearly 2 years old and there are no plan to introduce this feature, I decided to stop the premium account renewal...

I'll see about renewing when there is at least a plan or a schedule to make it available.

Kinda makes me feel like second class citizen honestly (but maybe i'm just a drama queen ;))

  • After two years Premium, and the total inaction or even a response from Strava, I have now moved to basic membership only. I now use Training Peaks for all my analysis.

  • After two years of paying premium i have been quite pleased with all the improvements done regarding training. However i think it is fAr more important to consider taking running into considerTion for training effect instead of some of the social stuff which is quite useless, since a lot of people have asked for this and no response from strava has been heard of i think i just might not be renewing this year

  • Still waiting (and still paying for Premium...) Strava. We won't wait forever!

Will be moving to basic strava + training peaks soon

  • Time to let Premium expire unfortunately. Strava is still great for the social network aspect but I've seen barely any development of Premium features over the past 18 months - certainly nothing to persuade me that it's worth keeping.

  • Oh dear, thread is 2 years!

    And still nothing?

Very well, no need for me to wonder if I should renew when my premium expires then.

  • From the help on fitness and freshness:

    Fitness

While fitness is a complicated concept, it can be simplified to an accumulation of training. The Fitness Score is calculated using Training Load and/or Suffer Score to measure your daily training, and an impulse-response model to quantify its effect over time. This will intuitively capture the development of fitness from training, as well as the loss of fitness during a break. This feature is currently only available to cyclists, but we hope to make it accessible to runners soon.

As there is already a suffer score for running it should be really easy to implement this. Are the suffer scores completely comparable? maybe not, but it would be a lot better include if they are 10% off, than to exclude which is guarantied 100% off.

Two years is not acceptable on something like this, I will join those dropping premium.
