Option to Hide Strava Challenge updates in Activity Feed

Challenge notifications are spamming up my activity feed. Can't even see what people are doing because of this crap. I am starting to make passive-aggressive comments implying certain people need to stop entering challenges, failing that I will unfollow them.

A "Do not receive challenge updates in activity feed" option would solve this.

Thanks everyone, our designers are working on a solution for this. We will be releasing changes later this year to better manage the space used for various items in the feed. Challenge join notifications are one of the areas considered to make the information in the feed more efficient (we agree, the current handling of challenge notifications is inefficient!)

    Stay tuned!

  • +1 I hate this, yesterday I could barely see an activity, just 'so and so joined x challenge' again and again. Boring, and pointless.

  • Please provide an option to hide them for all users.  Very spammy feeling.

  • Either that or make the icons a bit smaller. Too many challenges now and days.

  • +1 It's very annoying. I just don't care about this, especially the "has joined" event. Thanks a lot.

  • Yipp, i wonder why there is not such an option yet. Sometimes i have to scroll over a whole site to see any activities in my ACTIVITY-Feed. Absolutly annoying.

  • +1 I've unfollowed people for joining too much of this stuff because it spams up my activity feed.

  • I've found a few ways to hide these notifications for those interested. If you use an adblocker on your browser, you can add a custom rule to block specific types of notification. This is usually by right-clicking on the notification then setting the custom rule. The other option for people using Chrome is to via an extension like "StravaPlus" or "Strava Enhancement Suite".

  • It would also be nice to have the ability to select and/or deselect followers from your feed. I do not want to "unfollow" people but do not need to see everyone I follow in the feed.  Just say'n...

  • Yes, please. It's very annoying.  Thanks.

  • Yes I want this too. 6 of the 9 activities are from two folks I follow that have joined 'Challenges'. It has gotten very annoying.

  • Or at least have an option to hide everything but the challenge being completed.  The joining and the progress are way too much.

  • In the meantime, try this chrome plugin. I've been using it for ages, and it's great

  • My whole feed today is taken up by the challenges one person has joined - sort it out Strava!

  • +1. Option to hide, or at least group them up. If one person joins 6 challenges, they should come as one entry, not 6 separate.

  • I don't even like when my "joined a challenge" notification is clogging up my activity feed.

  • +100 Evidently, if you sign up for a training plan, leave said plan, the join again to adjust a start date or something, you have duplicate notifications. Let the users prune their activity at the very least too.. I can't imagine it requires that much dev effort to implement.

  • I strongly agree. Today is the 28th of the month - the dreaded "everybody joins all the challenges" day is approaching. I don't want to know when someone has joined a challenge or completed a partial milestone (such as 25% of a climbing challenge). I do like seeing when someone completes a challenge. But I would give that up if there was a setting to exclude all challenge notifications from the feed.

  • Well, "everybody joins all the challenges day" is indeed here, and it's still obnoxious.

Strava, please respond to this! Also, routes being created etc. What's next? People following other people notifications? Please don't try to become Facebook!
An extra tab for misc. notifications could be a solution, so the activities (main) list could be cleaned up from this bullsh*t.

  • There is no reason why I should need to install add on's just to mute challenges. Strava needs to address this issue as user following increases. Strava really risks loosing users if the stream gets flooded! As others have mentioned, a challenge tab could also be an option as an alternative to a mute/hide button.

I think the challenge idea is a fantastic to keep individuals/groups motivated, however the majority of the ~90 followers/following of mine take no interest and agree that challenges make viewing tedious. Perhaps just keep them challenges to the "Clubs Tab"?

So if we all want a change, for Strava to take notice, we need to tell our Strava friends to comment here so that they know that it is an issue.

  • +1, this is the one social network I actually use, and I desperately don't want this to become Facebook. At a minimum filters to hide challenge joins and route creations are necessary.

I've heard really good things about UnderArmor's fitness app, lately... >_>

  • I thought there was a workaround for this but I guess not. Wierd how this has been an annoyance for over 2 years and no comments from Strava yet.

Challenges are a good idea but they shouldnt be shared at all unless you explicitly want them to be shared.

  • I vote this up too. Urgent.

A litte checkbox in the settings would help and the problem is solved:
[X] Hide challenges in the activity feed

Or Additionally add new option to the activity feed select box
    [I'm following (excl. challenges)]
    [Challenges]
    [My Challenges]

Always when news months are coming it floods my activity feed. I stopped using that challenges because it feels like spam. And most users subscribing to a challenge never fulfills it.

Today my feed looks like this… :(

  • I logged the same comment back in January, Elle did respond with a comment saying Great Feedback, but that's all I ever heard.

  • These posts go back to April 2014.  Why has nothing been done?!?!?! Frustrating for all and an easy fix. C'mon Strava.
