Weekly Walking Stats and Goals

I notice you have a weekly cycling and running goal and chart to see how you're progressing. Can you have one for walking ?

  • I concur - walking is an exercise just as much as cycling and running.   Some of us aren't quite at the level of fitness for running yet, so please treat walking and all the other forms the same way.

  • My wife, who is a member, actually felt robbed that her walking activity wasn't on the BLACKed out calendar in the profile.

Since she power walks, I think walking should be considered an activity which goes on the profile calendar. Just my 2 cents

  • Can you guys please allow keeping track of the weekly progress for activities that are not biking or running? I bike and fit walk and would like to keep track of both. Sure I could put fit walking in the running activity but that's awkward because sometimes I do run. Same thing for the training log. In general I think the user should be able to select his/her own activities and keep track of progress towards a goal no matter what they are. Thanks.

  • I walk and cycle and am just as proud of my accomplishments doing that activity and hope you will consider including it as a tracked activity.

  • I walk at least 5 miles a week and my Strava doesn't keep up with the amount of miles I've walked.
Because of my knees and back, I can't run anymore, but I can and love to Cycle and Walk.
I believe that many more people walk more than they run, so Walking should be added as another choice next to running.

  • As the world ages and add cardiologists to their doctors' list and they strongly recommend walking, particularly for a good half hour plus with an intense ten minute  plus section midway in the walk, I feel you are missing out on an ever expanding market. I use the run tag workout and look forward to seeing "walk" as a recognised activity. Go for it !

  • I'd like to see walking as for many of us walking and running go hand in hand. As I get older I walk a lot for recovery and just basic fitness!

  • Please add walking as an activity, I am currently training for a 50k walk next month and would love to see my weekly progress count.

  • In the interim we walkers have just got to use "RUN" and tag it as workout as I do pending "WALK" being put up there with "RUN" and "CYCLE"

  • +1... I would also like to be able to set a weekly goal for walking. This is as much exercise as cycling and running are.

  • I hardly cycle anymore since my spinal injury. I walk several miles every day, however. As a premium Strava customer, I'm dismayed that my walking activities aren't reflected in my roll up stats.  Please make walking a first class citizen wrt weekly/monthly activity records.

  • Yes, please elevate walking and hiking to the same status as running and cycling.  Most of my activity is walking and I want to slice and dice it just like my runs and my rides...

  • As a new person here I'm amazed that walking/hiking isn't covered. It seems that this is a north american thing to consider sports as running, biking, but hiking because it isn't generally competitive  doesn't get covered. Yet as hikers we're all over exactly the same geography, and more! I wonder if this is an active forum and this topic important to the site owners.

  • I also can't believe there isn't a walking option for weekly goals and year end summary? I've been injured for most of the year and haven't been able to run, but I would still like to see my year to date totals on walking as well as set goals for this. I would like to think I'm not the only person who considers themselves a runner who is injured from running so is walking instead. Or just walking to walk and wanting to track this activity better for YTD totals and setting goals! There seems to be a lot of us!

  • Would love to add Walking Goals.  Also, add walking Heatmaps!

  • Want Heatmaps?   Consider trying this http://www.jonathanokeeffe.com/strava/map.php    It will take your paths and overlay them into a heatmap.   Its slow so be patient.

  • Criggie;

Thanks for the link - the walking heatmap worked like a charm for me.  Thanks again, cheers!

  • I also can't believe there isn't one for walking - luckily I don't run so I'll have to reset all my walks to runs to get the tracking/stats....

  • Agreed. It seems crazy that  cumulative totals, goals, etc aren't available for walking since the functionality already exists.

  • I've walked over 5000km with my dog in the last 3.5 years or so. I track that activity in Endomondo seeing as Strava doesn't aggregate my walking 'workouts'. I'm sure people that hike , power walk, etc. would like to see it, too.

  • I wish Strava wasn't so Elitist! You can record a walk, but cumulatively it means nothing. It's a real shame those who for whatever reason walk rather than run don't get the same level of service. Sad!

  • Adding my +1 to this.

Hard to believe that I can't even see something as simple as my total walking miles.   My training log shows big fat zeros on all my walking days.   Walking is great exercise, so it's disappointing that it's not available to analyze just as I do my cycling mileage.  C'mon Strava!   This thread has been open for YEARS now.  It just can't be that hard to make this improvement.

  • I was looking for an app to record my walks as I recover from heart surgery. Just like the others, I wish to record and see where I walked and how far it was and how much time it took. Thanks

  • I can't believe they don't have this feature. It's not ideal but if you're using Strava on an android phone download Google fit. This will link with your Strava & any activities completed on Strava transfer across to it & you can then see how much you've walked in a day, week or month.
