Stop notifications on Activity comments

Currently, if you comment on an activity you will receive a notification for every subsequent comment on that activity by anyone else. As you can imagine this can get pretty boring. For example, Niki Terpstra's famous Paris-Roubaix Strava upload has 542 comments to date, so the first commenter would have received 541 notifications!

To get rid of this, it would be great to see an "unsubscribe from notifications" button for commenters. Facebook have implemented a similar function and it works nicely.

  • Completely annoying. I unsubscribed from all emails now, even though I rather see notifications of comments on my rides. Still even the notifications on top of the Strava screen when logged in are annoying, as I need to check if someone commented on my ride or if some complete stranger happened to comment on the same ride as I did.

I don't get a notification when someone else gives a kudo after I have done so, so why is it so difficult to implement the same for comments?

Won't continue my premium subscription after this month ends.

  • The only way to avoid this is to not comment on activities in the first place. Which, unfortunately is what I will be doing in future. I will send my friends a text to congratulate them on their efforts in future.

  • Strava - do you actually not care. Surely you must have been reading this thread for the last 3 years yet you choose to not reply to your customers. Are you completely null and void of common decency. You are beyond annoying!!

  • Good grief. I made the "mistake" of commenting on Day 365 of Amand Coker's HAM'R record, and now my mailbox is filling up & my iPhone constantly buzzing. Is there really no way of turning off this specific kind of notification? There is so much granularity in the options for comments on your own activities or club rides, why not this?

Remarkably stupid. And as with others above, my only option (without turning off all notifications altogether) appears to be to delete my comment on Amanda's achievement.

  • Why does Strava completely ignore this thread for three years now? I've often made the mistake to comment on activities that were really amazing and where the cyclist definitely earned more than a kudo, and everytime I really regretted it once in a while! I won't leave any comments anymore until Strava fixes this issue.

  • Reply on Twitter: "We don't have any further update than the last one posted. Thanks for your patience." https://twitter.com/StravaSupport/status/866707178618576900

"Thanks for your patience" after three years, wtf. :-(

  • Hey,
Just made the mistake of commenting on a really popular upload on Strava. I've cancelled the email notifications but the app notifications are going slightly mental. Would be really good if there was the was a way of not receiving notification of everybody's comment etc or like Facebook's "Turn off notifications for this post"

  • Seriously this just needs to happen. How can you build a community of people supporting other athletes when they cannot control this stupid spamming of notifications. Such an easy update!

  • Plain ridiculous. C'mon now. It can't be that hard to implement this feature.  Your IT guys just suck Strava. Sorry to say! 4 years?? I've just totally disabled all the 'comment notifications' for a very long time!!! Listen to your users Strava..

  • Can´t believe that no one from Strava is even commenting on this! I´m cancelling my Premium now as a protest to the ignorance. Shame on you Strava.

  • Update your app, they addressed this a while ago.

  • No, there is no possibility to stop notifications for comments of others' rides if I left a comment. Sorry, I think you haven't understood the problem. If I'm wrong please tell me where I can this magic option.

  • OK, now I know not to comment on ANYTHING in the future. Unbelievable that I can't stop notifications from a specific post if I don't want them...

  • Is this feature still in the works? I would like to be notified when someone else comments on my activity, but not when someone else comments on an activity that I have commented on. Presently, the setting "Comments - Notify me when someone comments on my activity" does not work as described, turning it off is the only way to stop the notification spam one gets after commenting on a 'popular' activity. Thanks.

  • This is still happening. I made the mistake of posting on a popular activity of a star athlete and now two months later I am still getting notifications about this post though they are not responding to me. This needs to stop... it is severely affecting my enjoyment of the App.

  • Have Strava forgotten about this? The comment from July 2017 said it was being worked on and coming soon.

Almost 2 years later and nothing? Come on Strava, please sort this out.

As others have said, notifications for people that comment on my activity are great, but I don't want to constantly receive them for when I comment on another activity from another person.

  • This thread is now nearly five years old. 5 years of ignorance, very, very disappointing. No progress anywhere, Strava seems to have finished development and bug fixing and just concentrates on collecting money now. I cancelled my Summit account one year ago due to this problem.

  • I have to agree that it seems utterly ludicrous that Strava hasn’t addressed this issue first identified in July 2014. Anyone out there half decent friends with Chris Froome or DCRainmaker or another pro with a biblical following who can ask them to please weigh in with a like or a comment??? That may actually make Strava app developers/management sit up and take notice. Like thousands of others hugely pissed off with receiving hundreds of notifications of random comments after posting congrats to their mates, I’d vote with my feet except that then, er, I wouldn’t have Strava...

  • When is this coming? Strava has not changed anything in years, and lots of stuff is utterly broken. Shittest service ever.

  • Yup.   This is a ridiculous lacking feature.   Go know on the doors at Facebook and ask them how they likely easily allow this.  This is a joke Strava

  • I don't think they're reading this. If all of us on this thread, start a new thread with the same question to basically make Strava feel how we feel because of this issue, maybe they will hear us?
