Route Builder based on segments.

I would like to see a feature where routes can be built automatically by linking segments together.

If for example I wanted to visit a new riding location and there were 10 notable climbs in the area that I'd like to do to make the most of my trip, it would be great to be able to copy the links to these segments into a route builder and have it planned around that.

  • Edit start and end points of route
  • Use segment links to build route automatically (or the ability to bookmark a segment to use in a route)
  • Change the order/delete segments and see how this affects the route in realtime on the map
  • Add stop offs that aren't segments i.e cafes or points of interest
  • Flexible addition of waypoints using a segment or postcode

I use the route builder regularly and I love how it helps me get the most out of my cycling trips, these features would really take it to the next level for me.

Please head over and join the existing conversation on linking together segments to create a new Strava Route.

  • +1 for the linking of segments on the Route Builder. I've posted a feature request for it before. Hopefully we're heard. And filtering the displayed segments by Avg Gradient, allows you to create a great climbing route including all the best hilly segments, which isn't easily done in RideWithGPS. The usage of segments during route building is Stravas strong point, and they're squandering it.

  • Hi All, I managed to do this quite easily using the following steps:

    1. Locate the segment and show its leaderboard

    2. Using the leaderboard, display one of the athlete's activity by clicking on the segment completion date

    3. This should bring you to the athlete's activity featuring the segment of interest

    4. On this page, cick on the "..." button on the left-hand side and then "Create Route" (from activity)

    5. This will bring you to the route editor, where you can edit this athlete's trip (which includes the segment of interest).

    6. Edit the route to trim it down to the only segment of interest, or edit in your lead-in/lead-out to this segment.

Alternatively, the GPX can be exported from the athlete's activity and you can work from there.

Worked for me - hope this helps!

    Kind regards

    Francois

  • Thanks for the tip, François! I tried this several times, but I could only get the "Flag"-option when clicking "...". I tried picking several different athletes from the scoreboard and eventually - for one of them I got the "Create route" option.

    Not very intuitive though!

And - as soon as you've created the route, you can download it as gpx or whatever. Should be more easily with segments.

Strava - you need to do more work on this. As an MTB cyclist - this is a very valuable function when exploring new paths.
