iPhone stopped recording

It seems I have the same issue as the recent post by Tom C. On 3 of my recent rides the Strava app has stopped after a few minutes. Anecdotally this seems to happen when the phone has a low charge, and I think it happened once when the phone entered in low power mode, however this may be coincidental.

I'm using a iPhone 5S with the latest IOS and App.

PS You say that a support ticket has been created after the Tom C. post and I would have added this information to that if it were possible.

  • I have the same problem with my iPhone I've not been able to record a full ride for 6weeks now. Phone is fully charged before each ride with no low power settings running and background refesh set to true and it still fails.

I'm using an iPhone 6 with latest IOS and app. This morning I even made sure that Strava was the only app running before I set off got half of my 60k ride recorded.

  • My phone usually works very well with strava. On Tuesday noticed after updating the app that whenever the screen closes the app stops working. See linked activity below. I've not changed anything at my end.

I then tried running two versions of the strava app at the same time. One old one new. See below. The old one worked the new one had the same issue - you can see where I logged back in to see if the app was working.

    Old app

    New app

This morning after deleting the new app and reloading I tried again and the problem persists.

If the same remains it will make the app unusable

  • I have the same problem.  Lost my 2 most recent rides.  Fully charged iPhone 6.  Very disappointing...

  • I have recently noticed that same problem that is described here.

Recently I have done a few runs and tried to use Strava on my iphone 5

I generally use a garmin edge 510 on my bike but recently it had  10% charge so I tried using my phone in that situation as well.

In all cases I have started recording with Strava on my iphone, locked the screen and either put the phone in my pocket or backpack.

The recording seems to stop after about 400m or so which is a little disappointing when you go for a 5k run or a 20k ride.

Here is an example of what should have been a 5k run

I have an iPhone5 with the latest IOS and the latest Strava App.

I did try re-installing strava on my phone but it made no difference.

Also my phone has also had plenty of charge when I am using it (ie > 80%)

  • I also have the same problem when using Strava om my iPhone 5. Seems to be a problem with the new update, or...?

  • Have this problem on Android Samsung Galaxy 6 with everything updated. 20 minutes into a run and I look at the phone at is "stopped". This does not seem to be an auto pause, I never stopped moving, but some sort of time out. Removed the power saving option, no luck. Can restart it but then it stops again, frustrating to have to keep looking at it to make sure it is still going. Strava should add a warning feature to vibrate or send an audio warning whenever the recording goes into "stopped" mode.

  • I am seeing this issue as well. I have an iPhone 6 with the latest iOS. My Strava app says it has a strong GPS signal but typically after less than 1/2 a mile the app stops tracking. Has this been addressed yet?

  • Same issue iphone 6,  4.5 hr ride and only got 1.5.  Achivements not reflected, so I refreshed those.  That of course had no affect.

Update: happened again but note the disconnect happened during a known dead spot in mobile service. This is typically about 10 second then it reacquires. But sometimes it stops altogether.

  • I'm about to give up on Strava. IPhone 6, latest iOS, latest Strava. It randomly stops tracking. I will start the app again it gets the location and starts tracking, I lock the phone, then sometimes it tracks, sometimes it stops immediately.

  • My son is having the same problem. Seems as soon as the phone goes dark, or soon after, it will stop recording/tracking. My phone and app works just fine. What gives? Both iPhone 6. Thank you in advance for any advice.

  • Strava Stopped Working with my iPhone 6

I have been a Strava Premium member for years.  I joined back when we uploaded all of our rides tracked with a Garmin GPS.  When the Strava App came out for the iPhone - I quickly migrated over and enjoyed the benefit of instant uploads to track my rides.

I can now say that recently - Strava does not work at all on my iPhone for bike rides and/or SUP paddles - which had been working perfectly.  Last weekend I went for a SUP on San Francisco Bay with another Strava Premium member - and his tracking didnt work at all either.  I thought it was my location tracking on my iPhone - so I reset the phone to factory settings and relaunched the app.  Nothing has worked.

Is anyone else having issues tracking your rides or activities?

I have submitted multiple support tickets- and Strava support says there is nothing they can do.
