Add Photos from the Strava Website

Some of us have a windows phone, and while my first preference would be for an officially supported windows phone app with the full feature set, I doubt that is coming any time soon.  As such, it would be nice if we could add pictures from our own files from the web site rather than having to deal with Instagram.  I don't always upload Instagram photos in the time window allotted.  Truth be told, the only reason I have an Instagram account is so I can have my ride pictures show up in strava.  I would probably just close my Instagram account if you added manual file upload for ride pictures to the web site.

  • I support this request, too. There is an additional reason I want to be able to upload photos via the website: I often crop them and/or do some other elementary processing on my PC.

  • I cannot believe something as basic as uploading a photo to a activity through the website is *still* not there on the website.

  • I too am quite shocked.  I am a relatively new Premium member, and adding a photo from my PC via  a web browser like Google Chrome seems like the most basic of feature.  To the Product Managers at Strava, please add me to the voices requesting this capability.

  • +1 from a Premium member for adding photos from the web.  Silly in 2017 that that's not possible yet.

  • Everybody - just a quick reminder... Comments do nothing, so saying "+1" or "I support this idea" or whatever will not increase the visibility of this issue. Instead, scroll to the top of the page and click the upvote button there.

If you're seeing this in an email, click "View the comment" first.

There are only 104 upvotes, so this idea isn't even on the front page at

    https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/community/topics/200537377-New-Feature-Ideas?sort_by=votes

Adding photos from web lags behind these:

Obligatory -  I can't believe it either, a couple days effort by decent coders and testers, +1, my premium membership rides on this, garmin and others do this, etc

  • This is truely insane. Veloviewer now has the ability to upload elevation profiles to an activity via the Strava API. This is in the API, although not turned on for every developer. So the functionality is available just not turned on...

  • +1 from a premium member. I have essential tremors, meaning that most of my photos are blurry at best. So I have to take dozens of the same photo to get a result. Uploading from the phone is nearly impossible not to mention trying to figure out which one(s) are actually worthwhile.

  • +1 Yes please add photo upload from the Web Client. I don't have and probably never will have and Instabookgramface account :-( It seems so simple even for a one man company.

  • Yes, please Strava. We shouldn't have to fiddle around to upload a photo, particularly as premium members!

Ridiculous that this functionality does not exist!

  • One more request for this function.  I am an avid Zwifter and Premium Strava member and I would like to load my photos captured on my PC of my Zwift events to my Strava page directly from my PC to the Strava webpage.  I would think that the huge and evergrowing community of Zwift riders would also welcome this functionality.  This request has been avidly made for a couple of years.  What is the agenda that is keeping Strava from making this happen?

  • It is with joy that I read the Jacob Grossbard's  Nov 3 2016 post explaining his Bluestacks photo upload-from-not-a-SMARTPHONE technique. I had requested this feature a few times 12 and 18 mo ago from STRAVA with the same "we are a small company" results, but recently wondered ... hmmmm ... if STRAVA has not resolved this yet, someone has probably create an Android emulation to get it done anyway :D My small company builds a "Windows - only!!" app which users ingeniously get to run on LINUX and MACs using emulation ... Thanks Jacob - I will try the Bluestacks option and see if I can finally upload PC folder photos to STRAVA! Rather than intervals-ramming the iceberg, we may have found a way around it!

  • I am a software architect and developer with 25 years experience, I am willing to gift my time to help you develop this very complicated feature which  I know will take north of 6 hours to complete. Please let me know how I can help

  • My workflow to upload a photo to a website in 2017:

    1. Plug phone into laptop with a cable (Android phone with dev mode enabled)

    2. Run a script to copy the jpeg files from laptop into the DCIM folder on phone

    3. Run an app on the phone to re-scan media folders so the new files are visible to Strava app

    4. Plug Garmin into laptop, upload activity to Strava

    5. Quickly open Strava app on the phone, find the new activity and Edit it

    6. Attach the photos transferred previously and Save

Sometimes the photos get added fast enough to appear in Relive.cc, sometimes they don't. There doesn't seem to be any workaround for that.

Maybe there's a way to combine steps 1-3 and transfer wirelessly, but really, this whole thing is farcical.

  • Im a dog, and dont have my own phone, i would like to post pics of my human counterpart. he is always posting pics of me and stealing my koms..this is ridiculous, you,r a small company, thats why you should be able to add some sort of picture interface with the  PC version, nice and small, not a overpriced bureaucracy , grab and asian highschool coop, could do it in minutes...but alas, im a dog

  • @Dexte Rted K.    On strava, noone knows we're dogs.

What gets my balls (other than the vet) is that picture uploading works great here.

  • Seriously? I'm new to Strava and cycling and my daughter took a photo on her camera. The photo is now on my PC and I can't upload it?

From the comments, I now need to e-mail it to my Android phone and do it from there?

Wow, not very user friendly is it?

  • Yeah, this does not seem like it would be an insurmountable task, even for a 'small' company. I can accept the fact that you don't have the time or resource to develop a Windows Phone app... but not having the time to put together a simple upload photo option seems a little ridiculous.

  • @ Fabian Staudt:  that is an awesome post, and I agree with you...

@ Pete Falconer: the same... hilarious...

@__EveryOne___ including Criggie -  :  Sometime around mid or late 2016 they changed/moved this discussion to a new "thread" or "topic", and locked the old conversations.  IIRC, there were about 300-400 votes scattered among 2-3 different threads asking for this feature, over the course of at least two years.

It seems to me that this was just a method to wipe those requests clean (sweep 'em under the rug) and hope they go away.  If that wasn't their intent, it still has the same effect.

It will be interesting to see if they do the same again, once the count gets up to 300 or so...

  • Paying customer.

I would like this feature please. Seeing as the facility is already there to add images from smartphones it doesn't make sense that it's not there already.

    Please add it.

  • +1.

It's a PITA when I want to edit photos using my desktop and cloud photo storage system, and then have to download the result on my phone to upload to the ride.
