Default location for segment explorer

I live in the UK but for some reason when I go into Segment Explorer it defaults my location to San Francisco. As such I have to move the screen across a few continents to try and find where I am. My location is turned on, on my phone (Samsung) so I'm not sure what else to do. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Mine always shows mine at my proper region. I am guessing it has to do with your Profile location setup or maybe your Private Zone.

Check your profile location here: https://www.strava.com/settings/profile

if that doesn't do it, try adding a privacy zone in the Privacy section.

  • Hi Jane, not sure if you have it sorted, but I had the same issue and it was because of my phone settings. On an iPhone settings>privacy>Location Services>Strava>allow while using.

  • Totally sympathise with you Jane. I've had the same issue ever since joining almost 10 years ago. As a summit member I registered a support ticket for it yet the response has not been helpful.
It appears that this is a problem for Strava on Android at the very least and has been for a long time. Wish they'd sort it out..... Especially for paying members!

  • I agree that it is rather annoying that the segment explorer defaults to San Fransico, and it's hard to see why Strava doesn't do anything to correct this.

My guess is that the home adress (as entered by the user) isn't avilable to the app, and if that's the case this could probably be fixed easily if Strava wanted to. After all, if I open the segment explorer in the desktop version it always shows my home town, but if I do the same in the app I'm suddenly in San Fransico again.

A better solution would of course be to use the GPS to locate my position when opening the segment explorer, but it seems that the app doesn't do this anymore (I'm pretty sure it did at some point). This is on an android phone btw, and I have no problems with GPS tracking when recording, so I don't think it has anything to do with phone settings.
