Duplicate activity data in Apple Health

Each time after a ride, I sync my Garmin 810 with Garmin Connect. My ride gets synced to Strava and Strava records it in Apple Health.

The workout is written once, but the cycling distance is always written twice. Which results in double the distance. I always have to delete one of them.

Anybody else seeing this?

This issue has been resolved in the latest version of the Strava app.
You can delete any remaining duplicates on an individual level in the health app by swiping to the side and deleting the duplicate from health. Updating your Strava app will prevent any duplicates from being created in the future. If you continue to experience issues please submit a support ticket.

  • Yep, I am, I seem to have anywhere between one and three distances.

I have gone into strava in apple health, data and note it is just cycling distance that is replicated. Oddly Apple Watch activity app registers strava entries once, but the data for normal Apple health users is frustratingly skewed by this.

  • Actually at times it is also duplicated there too, but not consistently :-(

  • Yup I'm seeing duplicate entries in the activity app. I record my ride on my watch.

  • Yeah, this has been happening to me ever since the health app was released two years ago with iOS 8.

I don't expect it to ever get fixed, for a while Strava said they were aware and working on it, but haven't heard anything since they claimed it was fixed (it wasn't) over a year ago.

It only happens with cycling distance, somehow the other actives are fine.  Other apps that log cycling distance don't have this problem, so I really don't see why this can't get tracked down.  I've done the delete Strava, delete health data, reinstall trick so many times with no luck.

  • I have explained the problem to Strava support, but since I am not a premium member, they rarely response.

If you delete and reinstall the Strava app, the duplicates will go away. But the problem is recurring. Of you can delete them in Apple Health. As best I can tell, Strava reports the activities to Apple Health. But if you then use Strava to edit a ride, e.g., turn on COMMUTE flag, or simply view your segments and then go back to your feed and pull down to refresh the view - you WILL get DUPLICATE entires. This is 100% repeatable.

You can easily view you Strava data by viewing cycling distance and selecting "Data Sources & Access" and then select "Strava." You can then view your rides by day and remove duplicate entires - one day at a time.

I hope Strava fixes this problem.

  • If I go to the Health App > Sources > Strava > Data, I see anywhere from 2 to 10 entries for every workout - cycling, walks, runs, everything. The Strava activity ids are the same but the sync times are all different. Definitely looks like a bug to me.

  • Yes ditto...annoying.  Would be good if Strava could fix it...hint

  • Having the same issue. I'm seeing up to three of the same cycling event.

  • Just noticed this same exact issue on iOS 10.1

  • I am getting this behaviour as well. Garmin 520, iPhone 6s. iOS 10.0.2

Feels like maybe it doesn't happen when I record from the phone and not the Garmin. I'd have to record a few recent ones with the phone.

  • Same here, with my Garmin Edge 820. I'll get anywhere from 0-2 duplicates for every ride I record.

  • We have some helpful troubleshooting steps in our article about the Apple Health Integration, under FAQ: Seeing duplicate entries of Strava data in Health?

You can also post comments and updates at the bottom of that article as well.

Hope that helps resolve the issue.
