zwift should count toward toward badges for distance and climbing

I dont get why zwift doesnt count toward badges....most of the time i suffer more on that the real deal. If anything give us half the climb or distance....getting nothing for our tough rides is not fair

  • I see both sides and sitting on the turbo is not a real bike ride. It’s a ride simulator because you didn’t actually go anywhere and you certainly didn’t climb.

  • There are way too many ways to "cheat" on virtual rides such as zwift.  It is not in any way verifiable like a GPS tracked outdoor ride is.

While I am against the idea of including zwift rides in the regular challenges, I do think they could add challenges specifically for virtual rides so they don't take away from those of us who ride outdoors through the various season to try to accomplish the regular ones.

  • Jonathan G.. Apologies if I was disrespectful in my last post, it was not my intention.  Glad you are taking action as I suggested on Sep 23,  just as Stava has challenge rewards for runners as well as cyclist, I am sure they could create a virtual reward for ZWICT and other indoor trainers.  This way everyone receives some form of “credit” for their efforts.

As I relayed previously the gripe others and I have is attempting to combine both (virtual and real) training events into a single reward.  Its like equating an Automobile Driving simulator to driving a real car.  I think the simulator enhances mechanics, but it definitely ain’t the same as getting behind the wheel of a car in its natural environment.

  • Paul Green, thank you for the kind comments. Appreciated, for sure.  All is well.  Reset button for this thread. I agree with you and Jason that the outdoor riding (for context, I probably do outdoor 98% of the time) should be separated for challenges, if we can encourage Strava to create trainer challenges as well, separately.

I think that would be a happy medium for all opinions that strikes a good balance. Not perfect, but a solid policy, that would be. Thanks again to everyone on the valuable input. I think Strava has some definite low hanging fruit here that they can soon capitalize upon. Hopefully they will.  Those sorts of choices that they make will determine if I continue to remain a summit member.
