How do I log an upcoming race?

My Strava page says that I have no upcoming races. This wrong-- I have 2 races coming up. However, I can not seem to find any way to correct this.

- I went to the calendar and I can't add a future activity.
- I went to the "Featured Running Races" but my races aren't listed, and when I tried to add them, the form discouraged me from doing so. "Why should we add this race? (Not just because you're running it!)"
– I went to "goals" and there was no option to set a goal race.

Am I missing something here?

Thank you,
Ben

  • +1 for this feature. IMO, at this stage of development Strava should have at least rudimentary training/racing planning tools for subscribers. C'mon Strava!

Seeing 'you have no races, events or goals...' on  the dashboard is quite irritating (and confusing) -  most of us do! :-)

  • Agree with all the above. You would think that it wouldn't be too hard to allow users to add their own upcoming races to their own personal calendar - no real need for a global database, although it would be nice to have.

Yes, it is annoying to keep seeing "you have no races or events coming up" when you have! A countdown adds motivation - come on Strava!

  • I could not agree more.  I am keeping a race calendar in XLS and there is no correlation between my training schedule in Strava and my race schedule.  I love the idea of the countdown.  Not only does that help for motivation, but for taper as well.  The race/training calendar is one of the only features in Training Peaks I wish I had in Strava.

  • Dear Strava, the ability to log an upcoming race goal is the most basic of features.  For decades when those of us training for races have used paper calendars or Excel files, the first thing we do is log the actual race date, then work backwards.  You have created the ability to manually create a workout; is there some commercial reason why you are holding back on ability to enter races?  Is ‘featured races’ somemthing you are monetizing by selling advertising to those featured races only? Thanks, David

  • I'm going to add my opinion to the many that have gone before, and say that what currently exists as options for "upcoming race" is woefully inadequate.  Simply being able to put down a date on a calendar and work towards it, using the tools that we like to track & manage our workouts through, is an eminently reasonable request.  So what if there isn't a sanctioned event coming up?  How many requests for this are you going to ignore, for how long?  I don't know what all the new features have been added in the last few years, but reviewing this log it's clear that there are many who would appreciate your efforts being directed towards adding this functionality, in that timeframe.  Please reconsider!  Thank you, Laine

  • This would be a great feature to have, custom routes added as races

  • Strava, this is a serious feature gap as you can clearly see from this long thread of comment encompassing more than a year.  I recently joined Strava, but quite honestly am unimpressed in my first 24 hours of use and am already ready to abandon it and stick with the Garmin Connect app.  To let a basic calendar feature like scheduling personal upcoming events go unaddressed for this long is shameful.

  • Why would "You have no races, events or goals coming soon." exist at all if there isn't even a way to add a race!? The goal functionality is so limited. Goals = motivation for me. Just being able to see a countdown until race day would be useful.

Strava doesn't even need to keep a database of races. Just letting us enter in the title and location of each race would be enough...

  • Welcome to Strava, where an user request stays on, and on, and on...

I'm really sorry, but I'm working on the field of software (apps, sorry) development and testing, and I really can't find a plausible justification for the adding of an upcoming event on a personal calendar on my Strava account to be such a gordian knot, to be here for what, 2 years, waiting to be added for all.

For a sports platform, that includes such sports as running and cycling, I mean... How many users here do not participate at least on one event per year? Yes, setting a goal (I will participate on the event XPTO, that is due in 2 weeks now, I must tune up my training, and etc.) for us (mere users) is MAJOR.

Please, don't be ridiculously lazy, and add that functionality already, ok?

  • just came here looking for the same thing.  Very surprised that such a feature is missing.  Please consider adding this as I am sure that the majority of people using Strava have at least 1 race a year and using strava is a way to train for that.

  • I have 6 bike races this summer and 2 running races.  They are local to Utah and Wyoming so don't show up on Strava.  I would really like to add these as they are important to me.  Why can't we add them?  Help motivate us peons out here doing the best we can.

  • I too would like ability to have my races on my calendar...  Being able to see # of weeks until it's go time, etc. would be very helpful in making sure my weekly training is where it is supposed to be.  Popping my calendar open every couple of weeks and then counting back the time I have left seems like the kind of thing that Strava should be taking care of for me.

  • Please please add the feature so we can add races ourselves. It's on threads going back to 2014 so it's clearly wanted. As a premium member it would be nice to have. Garmin has this and it's free!

  • A basic feature that nearly every Strava user would want that is still unavailable with zero feedback from Strava developers. Total fail.

  • I am amazed that you can't add events / race to Strava. It wouldn't be so annoying if if wasn't for the "You have no races, events or goals coming soon" message on the Dashboard.

Anyway, for all of you who want this, try TrainingPeaks. It does the countdown to events really well.

  • I just train myself to ignore it.

I'm running a 5K tonight, even though Strava tells me "You have no races, events or goals coming soon."

I don't think they care.  They would have corrected this by now if they did.

  • This is a big feature gap for Strava IMO. I am currently a premium member, but will most likely cancel as I don't feel like the weekly and annual mileage goals are enough to justify keeping it. I would like to be able to set more robust goals such as PRs for various distances as well as adding races and events to my calendar for many of the reasons already mentioned above. These features would be worth the monthly membership fee. The goal feature as currently constructed sadly is not. Strava, when are you guys going to address this? Clearly it something that many of your premium members are asking for, yet we haven't even gotten a reply from Strava in this thread for what 7 months now? This issue has most certainly not been addressed. Strava, I'd like to know if this feature is coming soon or in development in order to make a decision as to whether or not to continue with my premium membership.

  • Over 2 years since the first post for this and still no way to add your own future events and races.

  • Does Strava employees read these posts? Or do I need to call their support line? Do they listen if you pay for the service?

  • Just buy a Garmin and use the Calendar in their app.  You can add, workouts, races, notes... and then just "Do Workout" from the watch.  All my Garmin activities sync over to Strava (in preferences)

  • It would definitely be cool to add a race to the dashboard and watch your progress leading up to the event.

  • It is crazy that this feature is not already built in, simple, and easy to use.  Users should be able to add it as content of our own, even if it isn’t “curated” for users to search and select.  I’m shocked this isn’t available, and I can’t believe that its been on the list for this long without any updates.  What a miss!  I have to bet that almost every Strave user would value this feature!

  • Even if adding this feature is so incredibly difficult that they can't/won't do it and insist on maintaining the list of races themselves, you'd think they'd peruse the list(s) of top races and af all of them.

From the promo email I just received:

"Once again, the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon has been named by Runner's World as one of the top 35 Most Iconic American Races"

Adding the top 35 (or 50, or whatever) per country based on well known lists shouldn't be that difficult or time consuming. I submitted the form to add the Mini the first year I ran it and was summarily ignored - no response at all.

    Very disappointing.

  • To me this is an important item.  What is the use of having something on your dashboard that says you have no upcoming events when there is no way to add events.

Additionally, it could be very useful for people to be able to share their events and promote it to others.

  • Any progress whatsoever on this? Surely allowing people to display upcoming races on their profile (that aren't curated by Strava staff) shouldn't require years of development.

  • This is one of those things I can't believe you are unable to do on Strava (as a Summit member or otherwise). Please allow users to add races to their calendar (not from the limited list, but simply as a custom event)...
