Strava Challenges for E-bike Users

Hi, I entered the 3000m October Climb challenge and happen to be using an E-MTB this month (the month of the challenge). To be honourable and fair, I have hidden my activities from leaderboards (as my climbing speed) was pedal assisted. However, I have still pedalled up mountains and am well on my way to achieving the Challenge. I don’t want to feature on leaderboards when I am using this particular bike (as it’s not fair) but I do want my climbs to be recognised and counted towards the October Challenge goal. How can I have my efforts acknowledged so that they count towards the Climb Challenge?

We recently made a change to the way Strava challenges work that adds additional functionality to some challenges on Strava. Most notably:

    1. Some challenges will allow additional activity types to count towards the challenge goal (e.g., walking, hiking, swimming, skiing, paddle boarding).
    2. Some challenges will allow activities with visibility settings set to “followers” or “only me” to count towards the challenge goal.

We’re working on introducing these new functionalities to more challenge types, including the full recurrent monthly challenge series; however, for now, some challenges will continue to require that activity visibility settings are set to “Everyone” and will be run or ride only.

Please be sure to check out our Challenge Gallery to discover additional challenge types and see the Details and Eligibility section of each challenge for information regarding eligibility.

  • it would be nice to have the challenge for e-bikes too.

With more meters of altitude to face so that it is a real challenge

  • I agree. There should be ebike challenges to coincide with the ebike tracking already in place.

Can the Strava product support team pls comment on this?

  • so do you confirm that, data registered using e bike are not considered in the ride challenges? for example do a number of km this month or get 7500 meters of climb?

  • Stefano - If you read the descriptions of the challenges, they almost always specifically state that e-bike rides do not count toward the totals.

  • With a growing number of ebike users it’s a pity that there’s nothing done in terms of goals. No wonder people don’t mark their activities as ebike ride.

  • Nick Pbikestore I suppose you talk about eMTB. Not e-roadbike.
Despite the number of meters, pure climbing is not enough to setup a challenge for MTB and eMTB. MTB/eMTB is more about skill on technical part, so "extreme track", than pure power like for road biker.

Climb xxx meters at 30% and more is a better challenge for MTB and eMTB.
