How to format your new idea and/or feedback:

Feedback that is actionable and constructive is most effective. When sharing, please consider the following when framing your thoughts:

  • If you have a new idea, it's helpful for us to understand why that feature is important for you and the value it will bring. For example: I want __. It will allow me to do ___. The reason that is important is because of ___. An example of when I needed that was ___.
  • Specific examples and details that illustrate the problem/confusion you are experiencing. For example: When I do ___, then ___ happens and that is not ok because ___.
  • Screenshots that help visually illustrate the problem. For example: Here is a picture illustrating my point ___ from above. See how ___ is doing ___?
  • An explanation of why this is important. For example: This is important to me because ___.
  • If you propose a solution, an explanation of how that solution would help you and why that is important. For example: I think a ___ would be great because then I could see ___. This is important to me because I have to ___.

If someone has already suggested the same idea as you, you can help us quantify the demand for the feature or improvement by upvoting the original comment. To upvote, click the up arrow on the right-hand side of the comment.

  • I would like to be able to make my activities visible to only one person. For example when I run with my wife I'd like to compare our runs on Strava without sharing with anyone else.

  • I want to be able to share my activities with favourite athletes only. It will allow me to have more control over the privacy of my activities. The reason that is important is because I may not want certain people to know where I am doing some of my activities and I don’t want to block these followers. Instead I want for example my family or friends to see some activity I would consider private and all my other unknown followers to see my official activities.

  • Thank you for all your recent comments and contributions. We hear your concerns and it's a priority for us to ensure all athletes feel welcomed, safe, and protected on our platform. We endeavor to add more control over privacy settings including location visibility and how your activities show up in the feed. We're hard at work making improvements here and we appreciate your patience as we work to improve existing functionality and launch new privacy features.

  • I generally don't care who sees my activity but it would be nice to have privacy settings for each activity.  In my case, I track my cool downs (usually walking) but I feel like I'm fishing for validation anytime I get kudos for 500 meter walk after completing a 6 mile run. I know I can change the setting for that individual entry after the fact.  But I'd like to permanently set Walking as private to me while leaving all other activities available to the community. No need to respond, I'd just like this recorded as a "Nice to Have".

  • Regarding blocked people: I would love it if there was a way to hide the people you  have blocked from leaderboards. I know you can't take them off of the leaderboard, but I would suggest that if you have a specific person blocked, they would appear as "strava user" or something generic like that on the leaderboard. And then they wouldn't be able to see you on the leaderboard either. Thanks ou!

  • Jan S From what you quoted, Strava says you'll see "a logged-out version" -- emphasis on "version" meaning it's not the same activity page and details you see when logged in. For a public activity, someone not logged in will see some super basic limited info, like the name of the activity, the map, and a select few thumbnails of pictures (but unable to click through them or see larger size), and no splits. Of course, it will still encourage someone not logged in to create an account or login.

If you're not seeing the basics, do double check the privacy of the activity. You can confirm how it looks by opening the activity in a private browser window where you're not logged in.

  • Jan S: You might want to open a ticket then with Strava.  For my activities I get to see some basic stats and map when looking in incognito.  Maybe there is some setting you have flipped that doesn't allow it, but I don't know.

  • Hey Jan S If your profile's privacy is set to "followers" no one on the web will see a logged-out version of your profile or activity details pages. Others must log in to see your activity details, even if the activity's privacy is adjusted to "everyone". You can read more about our profile privacy controls here.

  • Soren thank you! That was exactly the problem. In order for "web people" to see my activities, i had to set the Profile setting to everyone, not only the Activities.
However, i find this confusing, because if there are separate privacy options for Profile and Activities, i would expect that these work independently. I am ok to expose my activities, but not all the profile data or let other to follow me without permission.

    Thanks again Soren !

  • Since the default setting of "flyby" privacy has essentially crippled a feature I was previously quite fond of, Is there anyway of indicating if there even was a "flyby", or how many "flyby's" there were on a workout?  That way I wouldn't have to click into it to see if it caught a passing group or not.

  • I’d also like the option to set the privacy per activity type, so riding and running are automatically in my feed and everything else is not. Seems to be a popular request.

  • I discovered recently that uploaded pictures get their shooting time displayed in the Android app. Useless and goes against privacy protection without benefit.

Remember that I am waiting for "hide start time" since years now. And "Followers only" is not an option as it disables segments.

  • Also please don't put privacy zones on virtual rides - that is completely pointless!

  • Can there please be an option to block the city from automatically showing with an activity? Currently it seems the only way around this is to record my workout separately and manually enter the workout. I do not wish to have anything about my location made public, so keep maps hidden but really don't want anyone to know where I live, work, vacation, and for how long, etc.

  • Hey Tyrn Armstrong we currently don't have the option to do this. However, there is a 3rd party site -- Activity Fix that can do this for you. You can create rules such as "mute all rides marked as commute" and it automatically does this for you right upon uploading. We appreciate your feedback!

  •  I'd also like to be able to mute from the website, rather than only in the App.

  • Hiding an address is inconceivably random! Why is the map visibility privacy circle around the address so rigidly set by Strava? Why can't I just select the area that I want to be invisible to followers? Rather than Strava arbitrarily deciding some random circle around the address, please let us select our own area to make invisible!

    Sincerely,

    Your strava user

  • Why is public if I write a Goal for a Strava Segment?

    Goals Privacy

Performance (segment/power) goals are public. Non-followers can see these goals when viewing your profile page. Progress (weekly/monthly/annual) goals are private.

  • I would like to the option to turn off receiving kudos and commenting?

  • In the "My Gear" section it would be useful to be able to remove a component from a bike without retiring it and then be able to add it back onto the bike at a later date. It would be useful to me because I run different tyres in the summer and winter but they last me more than one season. I also use different pedals depending on the type of riding that I am doing. e.g. flat pedals for trail riding or commuting, clipless pedals for bike touring. Other components may also be rotated for seasonal reasons but not retired. It would be important to be able to track the mileage / hours of usage of these components accurately to monitor service life and prevent wear and damage.

  • The suggestion @chris d made is a good one. I too swap tires based on whether I am on the road or a trainer. So maybe allow us to add multiple rear tires then have an “Active” property that can be enabled on only one.

It would also be nice if we could add shoes and other items we cyclists use. If there was an “Other” option which allowed us to add custom entries, we could track anything like shoes, electronic devices, batteries, etc.

  • I would like the ability to Hide HR Data on new activities by default. I am very surprised this is not already possible.

  • Can you please make the privacy zone bigger, this would be a great option, as I have just had all my bikes stolen, when you view the privacy zone it only blocks out x 2 streets where I stay if the zone was 2 or 3 times bigger this would make an address harder to find and more secure

  • Jojo I would please like the ability to control who can favorite me in their Following list and then receive notifications when I upload an activity. I don't mind if someone wants to go searching for me and my activities in Strava, but automated real-time notifications of my activity is a bit much IMO.

  • Robert Mountjoy Can you please submit a ticket to our support team so we can assist?

Christopher H. While it isn't possible to prevent your followers from favoriting you, you can see who has chosen to do so via the mobile app. Navigate to your profile > Click on "Followers" > at the top, you'll see who has favorited you.

LoLo C you can see what information is always public by visiting this help center article: https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/360034758331-Your-Privacy-Defaults-when-you-Create-a-Strava-Account

  • Please increase the largest radius option on privacy zones. In a city, a 5/8 mile radius (the current max radius) covers hundreds or thousands of households, but in rural areas, a 5/8 mile radius may only include one or two houses.

  • Really great feature would be an option for default private activities and allow a setting for a minimum distance for an activity to be set public, per activity type

  • How to use geographic coordinates instead of an address at privacy zone? already changed several times the format and it´s never correctly located.

Can you please inform in which format to put, and the geographic coordinate system.

    Is that WGS84?

  • Jeremy J. , @ m (sorry, cannot find out how to tag you @ m

Thanks for answering. My problem is, that although i have the setting on "everyone" (i can see that in my personal settings and in the detail of the activity itself), the non-logged users (incl. me in an incognito window) still get the page where I have to login/register. On that page, there is a text "follow Jan to see this activity, registration is free".
So i would be totally fine with having some view with basic data of the activity, but I don't have even that :)
