  • Specific examples and details that illustrate the problem/confusion you are experiencing. For example: When I do ___, then ___ happens and that is not ok because ___.
  • Screenshots that help visually illustrate the problem. For example: Here is a picture illustrating my point ___ from above. See how ___ is doing ___?
  • An explanation of why this is important. For example: This is important to me because ___.
  • If you propose a solution, an explanation of how that solution would help you and why that is important. For example: I think a ___ would be great because then I could see ___. This is important to me because I have to ___.

  • Local Legend counts are way off. I am credited with a LL of 27 segment attempts, but my Strava lifetime only shows 20 times, over 4 years, so something is screwed up

  • maybe I'm missing something but why can't you just enable the feature in all countries. I mean it works fine in other countries, the feature has already been made and tested by thousands of users over an eight month period. I don't see a reason why it shouldn't be available everywhere.

  • Hey Strava team - good job on the local legends feature! I'd wish you'd roll it out more widely / globally.

  • Hello Nicola Gallo and Jeroen Wigard,

We've activated the Local Legends feature for all ride and run segments globally. You should be able to see this now on a segment page. -N

  • Hi Navy!

Will the trophy be displayed in all your activities? On a few occasions I found it wouldn't display. The activities are set to be visible by everyone. Is there anything else that it depends on? Thanks in advance.

  • Local legends is a great concept. Pity its not working as it suggests! Several segments show the local legend with just one effort in the past 90 days and I, like a number of users have done these several times in the same 90 days. All my efforts are set to public as i have no privacy issues that need locking down.

Perhaps you can look into why this happens and make some changes so it actually works?

Example below, Local Legend has done 2 efforts in 90 days where I have done 8?? And i am sure there are others with more.

  • I'm probably missing a point somewhere, but on one (running) segment, the LL is shown to have made 3 efforts in the past 90 days, whereas I am shown to have made 7. There are several other instances. I would be glad of an explanation.

  •  I was on the local legends page looking for some data, I couldn't see what I needed and simply clicked on a button marked leave local legends or similar.  I thought i was merely going back not unsubscribing from the function. Now been told that I cannot reinstate my data back into LL when it is all on my activities list seems ridiculous. At the very least i would have expected a secondary command type response of "you are about to leave unsubscribe from LL this will remove you from all LL lists and cannot be reinstated"
I cannot understand why the system cannot simply take the last 90 days activities and load it back into the relevant segments, the only answer I can see is that this is happening a lot and you cannot deal with the possible volume ?

  • I'd like to see the LL made more meaningful by having a minimum number of attempts on a segment. My suggestion is a minimum of 1 time per week on the segment - so 12 time. To see a local legend with 5 efforts over 90 days is a little pointless.

  • I enjoy the Local Legend feature, but gaining a "Legend" status after just 90 days is not very legendary - that is very short-term.  It should be longer-term such as at least 6 months, if not longer (12 months?).  90 days is so short on popular segments, that if the "Legend" is out of town for a few weeks, he/she will likely lose that status.  This happened to me, and very hard or impossible to get three weeks back on a route that others ride 5 days/week.  Calculating Local Legend over a longer period of time will smooth out situations like that.  Strava, will you please consider changing LL to a longer term than a short 90 day period?  If not, possibly rename it to "Recent Legend" which is more what it is now.

  • I agree with Ron Leiken.
The feature is cool, but there should be a longer term competition too.
If someone runs the same segment every day for 10 years, then takes a break, there will be a new "Legend" and nobody will notice his efforts.
It is a bit like the best times would be erased after a few months. Nobody would try to break records if all the records would vanish after 3 months. Something should remain permanently from the efforts people make.

Maybe an additional leaderboard would be great based on how many days (combined) each athlete held the Legend title.
And/or an additional leaderboard with the overall count of efforts.

  • Could we get it to show not just local legends currently held, but also that athletes have held in the past?

Could be below the fold, still one row per segment (segments ranked the same way they are for currently held) with some kind of timeline.  Although I get that this might be tough for segments where one athlete might have held it for >10 distinct timeframes.  Still would be neat to see some view of past LLs ever held.

  • I recorded a ride of 16 miles yesterday but no segments or maps appeared in the upload, including one of which I am "Local Legend". The total mileage and time was, however, correct. Does anybody know if it's possible to manually add the LL segment to my record? I rode a similar route including the same segment last week - https://strava.com/activities/6880754446/segments/2942470085316218170…

  • I'm really not sure what happened this week, but, I hold a lot of the Local Legend positions on segments near my home. A couple of them occasionally go off to other riders then come back when I have a good week. They are a good motivator to just get out and ride but I don't go searching for them.

Now... most of these segments sit at around 40-45 efforts in the rolling 90 day period. Today, when I looked at my ride they have suddenly jumped to the 70-75 efforts mark (I definitely have not ridden these segments, that many times)

Glitch in the system? Today was my first ride since Monday (5 days off the bike) and they all jumped up by 30 or more efforts......Strange. I guess it will auto correct in 90 days? (might Pi$$ a few people off though)

Thanks for voicing your concerns with your segment effort counts. We are aware of an issue that overcounts segment efforts. If you see that your effort count is higher than normal, please submit a support ticket so we can refresh your efforts for you. We appreciate your patience while we work on a fix.

  • Navi, are you asking us to submit a support ticket for each segment instance of the LL count error, or are the tickets we’ve already raised sufficient for you to refresh our counts?

  • Why do certain segments get Local Legends status and others don’t? I have some that under 100 attempts have been made on a segment and there’s LL, but other segments with 500 attempts don’t have that status.

  • Is there a place to find the criteria for Local Legend to be applied to a segment?  I run one in particular on which 30 different Strava members have posted nearly 200 efforts, but there's no Local Legend. (Other segments with LL have far fewer postings.)

  • Hi Navi,
Any idea when the LCL will be launched everywhere ?
Is there a place where one can find the criteria for a segment to be eligible ?
    Thank you,
    Laurent.

  • I love the idea, but sadly in practice it's not working out. I have two issues which I think need to be addressed.

1: Email preferences. I get local legends incorrectly constantly (see 2) and they get taken constantly. The same cannot be said for KOM, which is rarer. As I have email notification on for "When someone takes a KOM / QOM / CR / LCL from me", I get too many emails now. I feel each of these lost titles needs its own option so that email preferences can be defined properly and accurately in a meaningful way.

2: If I read the idea correctly, the system is meant to count the amount of times you've done a segment in 90 days and whoever has the most within that time frame is local legend. In my experience, it's taking a whole total since I started riding/running and the same for those who take the local legend from me. On one segment, I did it five times in 90 days, but the system said I was local legend with 49 attempts. Either this is a date issue, or the wording on the local legend area needs refining.

    Chris.

  • I think Local Legends is a neat concept, but what I'm finding frustrating is the amount of emails I get regarding local legends that I don't necessarily care to see. When I look at the email notifications, unfortunately local legends is bundled in with KOM/QOM/CR. I think performance-based email notifications (KOM/QOM/CR) should be separate from LCL emails since the frequency of turnover of KOM/QOM/CR is much lower than the frequency by which LCL status changes (by nature of LCL being calculated on a rolling basis). I would like to see email notifications that separate KOM/QOM/CR from LCL so I can selectively opt out of LCL emails. Thanks!

  • Hi Laurent Remmy, sorry for the delay. All run and ride segments should be available for Local Legends (except hazardous segments)

Hi Chris Buckley, we appreciate your feedback on separating KOM and LCL notification emails and have passed it along to the correct team. As for your second point, please submit a support ticket so our agents can investigate.

Hi @Martin, Local Legend achievement icons (laurels) will only show on new activities. If you earned the Local Legend on activities before we made it available to all run/ride segments, the laurel won't show.

Hi Kevin Lui, we appreciate your feedback on separating KOM and LCL notification emails and have passed it along to the correct team

Hi Massimiliano M., I will pass your feedback along to the correct team about adding e-bike segments to Local Legends.

    Thanks ya'll for the posts/feedback!! -N
