New post ideas

This is the place to suggest new post ideas.

As you know, we made some changes to our forum that will enable our small team to do a better job of engaging with you. One of these changes was controlling the creation of new posts and topics. If you cannot find a thread under which to post your comment, you can suggest a new post idea here.

Please make sure to 'upvote' the comments below that you'd like to see as individual topics.

How to format your new idea and/or feedback:

Feedback that is actionable and constructive is most effective. When sharing, please consider the following when framing your thoughts:

  • If you have a new idea, it's helpful for us to understand why that feature is important for you and the value it will bring. For example: I want __. It will allow me to do ___. The reason that is important is because of ___. An example of when I needed that was ___.
  • Specific examples and details that illustrate the problem/confusion you are experiencing. For example: When I do ___, then ___ happens and that is not ok because ___.
  • Screenshots that help visually illustrate the problem. For example: Here is a picture illustrating my point ___ from above. See how ___ is doing ___?
  • An explanation of why this is important. For example: This is important to me because ___.
  • If you propose a solution, an explanation of how that solution would help you and why that is important. For example: I think a ___ would be great because then I could see ___. This is important to me because I have to ___.

If someone has already suggested the same idea as you, you can help us quantify the demand for the feature or improvement by upvoting the original comment. To upvote, click the up arrow on the right-hand side of the comment.

  • Hey - as a user under Profile -> Following i'd like to see a along side each follower, a count of the number of Kudos i've given that follower and the number they've given to me!

  • - you can only see on which segments you have a KOM, but it'd be nice to see on which segments you are listed in top 10 (so for those for which you have a cup)

    - how will strava tackle the rise of e-bikes
I can imagine e-bikers want to record their activities as well, but will disturb the segment leaderboards

    - when I search a segment and want to see the timings of the people I'm following, it is only showing 10 people and there is no option to see the other timings. really a pitty when you follow some pro's or follow a lot of people, showing only 10 people is too little. there should be an option to expand and show the total list.

  • @Isa Johnson: You are confusing fitness with form. Per definition the fitness and fatigue increases by activities and decreases with rest days. The form (fitness - fatigue) increases by rest rest days because the fitness decreases slower than the fatigue.

  • OPTION TO DELETE SEGMENTS I DONT WANT. NOT JUST HIDE

Im a mountain biker and constantly get my activities flagged because we throw the bikes in the back of the ute and drive back up the hill on the road. While driving it obviously sets records on the road that are not wanted.

Our community needs an option to remove times we set while in the car. Multiple cropping options or marking out a section of the activity to not record times could work. Or simply an option to remove unwanted segments from an activity.

Its important because when an activity is flagged it removes all the records we have set for the day from the leaderboards. This makes using Strava pointless.

    Please help :(

  • I want “skateboard” added to sport category. It will allow me to do the same recording of distance that i do for my 5k/half marathon and biking activities. The reason that is important is because of being able to track and share progress of healthy activities helps to motivate me in improving my running/biking. I enjoy adding pictures of my run/bike ride to strava sessions as a way of making each session special instead of repetitive training. An example of when I needed that was skateboarding today and wanting a way to record length of physical activity, distance traveled, and collecting pictures of areas traveled in same app as my running and biking.

  • Like @Simon (. I want to choose what I see in my feed… in my case I am bombarded by the virtue signalling of my followers joining challenges… For the record… I could not care less if someone joins a challenge… it is my feed and I am paying to have choice… please allow me to see only the things I want to see in my feed…
For the record I have posted this before, and will continue to do so habitually until I or you get so bored, you do something…🥴🙄

  • Since most athletes are likely to be interested in wind information on their activities and their friends' activities, I contact you to suggest that a feature be added.
It involves adding an arrow to indicate the wind direction within an activity.
When we are in an activity, it is possible to obtain information about the wind, which appears together with other information about the weather during the activity. My suggestion is to add an arrow to make it easier to understand the wind direction.
    For example: "Wind direction S ↓ " ; "E wind direction →"
This would be the simplest way the arrow with the wind direction could be presented.
Another idea was for the arrow to appear on the activity map in the part.
In the "Overview" of the activity, there could be the arrow with the wind direction on the map.
In the section corresponding to "Analysis", there could be an arrow that corresponds to the instantaneous direction of the wind during the activity, that is, when hovering over the course of the activity, the arrow could adjust to the wind direction at that moment of the activity. I believe this is a more difficult feature to implement, but it would be feasible.
Attached are images illustrating these suggestions.

  • Fergal Downey - The GPS data, or at least Strava's interpretation of the data, isn't even accurate enough to know whether someone was riding as part of a group or not, much less who was in front and who was behind in a given group at a given time.  I know I have been shown as riding "with" a group of others who I never even saw during the ride, much less was riding with at any point.

  • I would love to see two features...

    1) The option to turn off the popularity contest that is "Kudos." I would love to share and see what others are doing.  Kudos should be a choice -- especially with movement and physical health. I've made myself invisible to everyone now because I don't like the KUDOS pressure.

    2) I'd like to be able to share the emotive spirit of the hike or run by sharing a link to the spotify playlist or song/songs that captured the run. Perhaps just a sample of the song can play or someone would have the option to open Spotify to hear the whole song.

  • Mark Williams fun fact for you, Strava Labs has a site called Project KODOS, where you can find detailed stats on your kudos data. Everything you're asking for can be found here: https://labs.strava.com/kodos/

  • Bruno Bloeyaert - Strava already has a separate category (activity) for e-bikes.  They are separated from other bikes and have their own segments and leaderboards.  Some e-bikers forget or just don't correctly assign their activities to the e-bike category, but it is there for them.

If you want to see the full leaderboard, you just have to pull it up on a web browser instead of the app.  A little annoying, but again, it is there if you want it.

  • Ryan Vogels - How about just pressing "stop" on the recording device when you get to the bottom of the hill and then "start" when you get back to the top?  That will cut the drive back up out of the file and it won't get flagged.  It would be nice to have an option to automatically filter certain segments, but without that, it is really easy for you to do it yourself just by stopping and starting the device during the ride.

  • One of the metrics I would love to see in Strava is Pw:Hr or also known as The ratio of Power and Heart Rate as a measure of decoupling. This gives you information about your performance, but also on how good your aërobe capacity is building up. It used to be available in TP basic by accident and they removed it recently, but I think it would be a great addition to the metrics in Strava too.

  • Flag an activity as 'Sustained Injury'

It would be great, just like with races, to mark activities as the start of an injury so that on our training and fitness graphs we can correlate troughs in fitness with injury.

Also adding a injured status to our profile would also be great.

  • A section for gear improvements....and i shouldnt have to vote up a topic. If the feature is on your platform it should be a topic for support questions or improvements.

It's not popularity contest for f sake.

  • IMPROVING DATA (for swimming)

if swimming is 1 of the 3 most important sports (like your site/app) suggests, make it so we can define the style of swimming too, so we can compare results fairly; breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle.

    ROWING:

we need more than 4 digits in order to record data well.

    eg:

Time-wise rowing; more than 40min, could result in more than 4 digits for distance.

So; every time 'we' train on time, we can't use the data precisely, due to the max of 4 digits.

  • PRIVACY CONTROLS - TIME OF DAY

With the explosion of popularity of Strava and fitness in general means that our social circles become more blended. I think the ability to not only control map visibility / privacy zones but also time of day privacy. This is also a safety feature alongside the aforementioned existing features as a potentially unfavorable individual could find trends of a user’s frequented routes, segments, etc that make the routine dangerous.

The primary (non-safety) use case would be to simply hide the time of day from co-workers, friends and family who might be otherwise judgmental of your schedule or profession if it differs from their own.

  • PRIVACY CONTROLS - PRIVACY GROUPS

The inclusion of privacy groups, such as trusted circles or acquaintances with adjustments allowing for visibility into one’s activities at different granularities would allow for more connections and a larger network, and more information shared amongst those that are known on a more personal or “real life” basis. Suggested controls would be time of day / date visibility, privacy zones, profile statistics, etc

  • I hope we can get behind @Colinphillips' suggestion to provide an option to hide time of day (an OPTION). Having selected said option, user would then choose a set time of day for uploads to be displyed/synced, i.e. same time of day for all updates, or the relative placement of the post will give a basic indication of workout time.

  • Please include Cue Sheet data when syncing routes to Wahoo GPS devices so that I can get turn-by-turn prompts on my Wahoo Elemnt Bolt.  Ride With GPS and Komoot both have this feature but it’s not available from Strava.

  • I would like to be able to crop non-GPS activities when I had a heart rate monitor on. At the end of a workout there are several things to turn off and often I accidentally leave Strava on even after I've turned off the workout narration in Seven Minute Workout and my heart rate monitor. I can later see when I stopped exercising by looking at the HR data (it flattens out) but I can't currently crop it. Being able to crop from a HR graph like a route would make for more accurate recording of workouts and other non-GPS activities.  Cropping from the HR graph might also be handy for people who hopped in a slow-moving vehicle and want to crop that.

  • Bonjour,

serait-il possible de créer un sport "VTT-Mountain Bike" avec des challenges qui vont avec ?

faire 50 km en VTT ce n'est pas la même chose que faire 50 km en vélo de route ?

    Sportivement

  • Search and compare on a specific date.
Search works for "Today", "this year" or "all time". A useful addition would be to search by date so that I could compare to others that rode on the same day.
I rode a Sportive recently and it would be great to see what times my fellow riders did in similar conditions.

  • PHOTO PRIVACY

It would be nice to set privacy separate for photos and for an activity.

I want to have the activities public so I am in global leaderboards, but I don't want to have photos on activity public.

  • Can we add the option of selecting your gear for each sport ?
I mean, for now, we can only add bikes and running shoes. However, i'd like to add my hiking shoes and walking shoes (which are obviously different from my running shoes) to track their mileage.

  • Separation between MTB, Gravel and Speed bikes to achieve segment times. Maybe it sound's obvious, but this 3 type of bike share's a lot of segments but within different characterystics, a MTB biker never gets the KOM in asphalt segment because obviously a speed biker will take it or gravel in an downhill versus an MTB, MTB will take advantage in this scenario, it make sense? All the 3 are bikes, but different bikes.

  • Dear community,
I am interested in having the golf as activity.
I think il would be great if I could define my activity as golf instead of just hiking or walking. It would ease categorizing my type of activities.
(I dont need score or other golf stats, just a category)
    Thank you

  • Further to Martin Pigot, we should be abale to search based on any criterion - words in the description, words in the title name, words in a segment name, date etc.

  • Marcelo Araújo - I totally understand what you are saying, but there are multiple problems with doing what you suggest.  First, there is already a history of over a decade of strava data that did not differentiate between different types of bikes.  There is no way to go back and fix that data, so even if everything in the future is entered correctly with the type of bike used, there will be a ton of old data that is mixed interfering with any data set.  Second, a majority of people still currently do not indicate what equipment they are using, much less what type of bike they are using.  For what you want to do to work, everyone would need to be properly indicating the type of bike they are using.  I don't see that happening.  For any chance of this working, you would have to start all leaderboards over from scratch and eliminate all old data, then would have to find some way to require every people using strava to update the type of bike they are using and correctly assign it to every ride.  It is a good idea if concept, but not one that I see being realistic to actually put into action in real life.
