New post ideas

This is the place to suggest new post ideas.

As you know, we made some changes to our forum that will enable our small team to do a better job of engaging with you. One of these changes was controlling the creation of new posts and topics. If you cannot find a thread under which to post your comment, you can suggest a new post idea here.

Please make sure to 'upvote' the comments below that you'd like to see as individual topics.

How to format your new idea and/or feedback:

Feedback that is actionable and constructive is most effective. When sharing, please consider the following when framing your thoughts:

  • If you have a new idea, it's helpful for us to understand why that feature is important for you and the value it will bring. For example: I want __. It will allow me to do ___. The reason that is important is because of ___. An example of when I needed that was ___.
  • Specific examples and details that illustrate the problem/confusion you are experiencing. For example: When I do ___, then ___ happens and that is not ok because ___.
  • Screenshots that help visually illustrate the problem. For example: Here is a picture illustrating my point ___ from above. See how ___ is doing ___?
  • An explanation of why this is important. For example: This is important to me because ___.
  • If you propose a solution, an explanation of how that solution would help you and why that is important. For example: I think a ___ would be great because then I could see ___. This is important to me because I have to ___.

If someone has already suggested the same idea as you, you can help us quantify the demand for the feature or improvement by upvoting the original comment. To upvote, click the up arrow on the right-hand side of the comment.

  • @Alessandro B. - There really isn't a way that Strava can determine with any accuracy whether someone rode as part of a group or solo.  Just because the times of an activity are close, doesn't mean they rode together at all.  Consider a time trial race for example.  Each person is riding solo, but are pretty close together and would show up in Strava as having ridden with each other.  Even things like mountain bike races would look similar.  We often have a number of riders very close together, yet usually just one person leading and typically a big enough gap between riders that there would not be any drafting, yet their strava times would show almost identical times and strava would think they were riding in a pack drafting off of each other.  I totally understand what you are asking for, but it just isn't realistically possible to accurately separate solo and group rides.

  • Hi Ben Ashley,

We have indeed recently made some changes to how footpaths are routed upon. See my post in https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360073377511/comments/4409664867085.

The team is considering ways similar to what you mention here for providing more context about what athletes will encounter on routes and why they may or may not be able to draw a route there.

highlight parts of the route which the route planner deems are footpaths. Then it is down to the rider to not trespass on footpaths with their bike but allows local knowledge to correctly plan routes.

We do already use our own data to override data that may be improperly tagged in OpenStreetMap, but are looking at ways where we could do that more broadly, especially in cases like this. That said, we'd appreciate any changes you'd make to footpaths that you think should be accessible to bikes by following the instructions here - https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/216917827-Strava-s-Maps-How-to-send-Feedback. We've been working to bring in changes made there in a more timely manner (the latest OSM tags refresh will go out this week) and hopefully that will at least improve in the short-term the routing experience you're having!

  • I don’t see this idea anywhere. It would be helpful to be able to delete activity types that I never use, especially those that show up on my Applewatch, ot at least to have the ones I use sort to the top of the list. I am not an athlete. I am moderately disabled. The only activity types i use are Nordic skiing, which seems to work with my walking bike; indoor bike, and workout. Everything else is just clutter. Having th option to choose the ones I want as part of my profile might be a good way to do this, or a simple DELETE option, i like Strava much bette than the native Apple fitness because Strava doesn’t seem to depend on an unrealistic walking pace or heart rate to move the exercise ring.

  • Hi @varun,

Thanks for getting back to me. The problem is is that I make routes without knowing and check them when I get there.

I don't mind having the option to submit feedback on route type but it is very hard to do this with lots of routes.

I think I will just route on running instead. The most annoying thing is that this means I cant use my heatmap.

A warning (unfortunately the same as komoot does it) would be best I think.

I will say though that I appreciate all the changes you lot have been making recently. But this one I cannot get onboard with

  • Ben Ashley do you have coordinates or screenshots of the specific footpaths that are no longer being routed on? We should be able to get them changed in OpenStreetMap to designate bike access as allowed.

  • I got a suggestion to make it possible to see how long user has been using Strava and what date they first started.

By doing this you could compare covered distance for a year!

  • Hi Jason Lamoreaux,

first of all thank you for the accurate and fast explanaination.

    I understand the point.

I thought that could be possible indeed: when I check times of other athletes for segments in plain I always wonder if they were alone.... then I go inside the related activity and I see that this person has recorded the activity "together with athletes A, B, C etc...", so this was the reason of my request. Anyway you are right, I cannot be sure if they were taking advantage of the draft; they could even cycling not in line or distant enough to not have draft effect without any difference in their times

Thank you again Jason. Have a nice day and work!

  • Hello,

I've been looking through "My Activities" listing ... everything with date, time, distance, vertical meters and relative effort...

I'ld like to see other or optional measures of ordering like average velocity, max velocity, average wattage, average vertical meters/ kilometer and maybe filters for my activities... by year, distance slider (e.g. between 30 and 50 km), time slider (e.g. 1 - 2h) used bike... maybe marking different years with different colours

This would allow us to find e.g. our fastest ~1hour-ride. Since not everybody has powermeters and many do untracked sport, this would allow for a rough estimation of our fitness and makes finding the hardcore-rides or races faster.

    Greetings!

  • Hey, I dont know where to put this so here will do, I guess.

Please add track bikes to the bike gear section. I race em. I ride em. Using a road bike for these, well, isnt accurate...there is another post in here somewhere which seems to have gotten ignored as well as support emails about it.

Come on!! lol...what's the deal? Don't know why it isnt there already...

    Thannx.

  • Ability to flag a segment instead of an entire ride.

Why have a rider lose other great achievements associated to a ride because one segment has bad data?

  • Ability to add meters rowed to an Indoor Rowing activity uploaded from my Garmin

When my garmin uploads an indoor row, I cannot add my meters rowed. Only if I manually create a Row can I add the distance covered. Can you make it so once a Row is uploaded, the user can edit and add the meters rowed?

  • I'd like to see a "Places" feature where we can save places for use as:

    • Goals ("this would be a fun place to stop on a future ride")
    • Frequent destinations (easy to route to form anywhere)
    • See Activities that started/ended/crossed these places
    • Plan multi-destination routes using your places
    • Share Strava user favorite places with each other and leave relevant community feedback (cycling friendly, great place to stop to fill up water bottles, public restrooms along bike path, good place to camp, friendly neighbors, etc.)

  • It will be interesting(and maybe useful) to have a top 3(or top 10, 20 ...) max speed/max average speed across somebody's all activities, private or not(switch-able through app or online account). If this feature will be somehow too dificult to be available for all strava users, maybe you may make it available for us - subscribers.

  • In the kudo list overview at the activity, only a maximum of 200 kudo givers are written down, while in the activity there are many more than 200.! I want to see all the persons who gave me a kudo for that activity.

  • In the past the data from the kudo issuers was always arranged alphabetically, now they are criss-crossed. I want the possibility that they can be arranged alphabetically.

  • Strava splits multi-sports (triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon) into multiple workouts, even when the sports watch connected to strava is recording it as one sport with transitions. I would like to suggest that strava take the data generated from the multi-sport and display all the sports and the data split accordingly, as one workout.

  • Since it's getting winter in the northern hemisphere, the indoor training is back. I use ROUVY at the moment and like the fact that I can ride real roads virtually. Is it possible to create a heat map layer for virtual training?

  • I'd like to be able to publish on Strava the workout that I create with Garmin Connect, so they have the title of the workout instead of the general title that Strava gives to the activity like "Evening run" or "Afternoon activity".

If I do a workout called "Deadlifts Week 3 Day 1", I would like this title to be published on Strava, not "Afternoon activity".

  • Can you please Add Mute to the website, great it is in the App, but I hardly ever use the App, have the ability to see the Mute status and the ability to Mute/UnMute from the Feed, I can't understand why its not there as it can't be hard, why just release it on mobile App

  • Would like to see audio cue split times added to running on Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 App. Has Stop/Start/Pause but not KM announcement or split time over last KM. Real shame not to see this feature...Having to run with smart phone is not ideal.

  • Coach mode - it would be incredibly helpful to be able to identify one or more followers as your “coach” which would enable them to see either private activities or activities that could be designated as “coach only” - losing Strava followers because they get annoyed by all your weight training recorded or other is common.

Coupled with this should be the idea that privacy can be controlled by type of workout - ie. by default all weight training or walks are private, but all rides are public.

  • I feel that Strava has the potential to become the biggest and best training app that basically everyone uses. I think its only a matter of good decision making and probably some investments for it to become the best training app!

    Some of Strava´s faults:

    1. "Segment explore" is a revolutionary good and has great uses when for example visiting other / new cities or locations, but still has some obvious faults like:

Limited to bike and run which makes Strava much less useful for other activities (e.g., hiking, nordic skiing, inline skating, rolling ski) than it could be.

    2. "Voice Cues / Audio Feedback"

Has terrible functionality compared to for example Adidas running app. Adidas has a lot more options with distance, duration, pace and coaching per time / distance etc..

    3. "Start Countdown"

Optional countdown before starting a run?

    4. "Run and Bike"

Why does my profile only show stats for Run and bike? shouldn't it be customisable or at least show your most used activity?

  • I think you need a forum to discuss the "My Activities" view.

I would like to be able to export the data from the "My Activities" view as a tab-delimited file. Even better would be the ability to have additional fields from the activities included in the file. For example, average power, max power, max speed, and which bike was used would all be useful.

Edit: I would also like additional ways to filter the "My Activities" view. For example, filtering by date, duration, distance, or approximate location would all be useful.

  • Imperial Vs Metric Display:
Separate options for elevation & distance

I grew up & live in the UK, where all distances on signposts etc are shown in miles & I find it difficult to quickly translate this to km's in my head

However I was educated at a time when schools had stopped using feet/inches so we used metres for pretty much everything, except the signposts we see on roads!
Basically I find it hard to judge height in feet or distance in km's
It would be great if you could select imperial & metric measurements separately for elevation & distance, so I could view miles for distance & meters for elevation at the same time

  • When I start cycling activity on my Apple Watch, I want to use the Strava app as a bike computer and see my activity live stream on my bike-mounted iPhone screen.

If I use the Strava app alone as a bike computer, I miss out on the built-in sensors on my Apple Watch which tracks my heart-rate (for example) and it is not recorded or displayed.

  • I think you need a post about segments. After all, that's the defining feature of Strava.

In addition to the average gradient statistic for segments, I would like to see the maximum gradient. Now, to find the max gradient I scrub the graph provided when you analyze your performance on a segment, and that's not guaranteed to find the maximum value.

  • I have just completed a hike of a ridge traverse. I know from detailed map data and other route plans that the activity is just under 1400m of climbing. My Garmin recorded the activity’s 1300m and a friend as 1400m. When the Garmin app pushed the activity through to Strava it has been corrected to just 900m. Please allow us to select whether height adjustments are used or not irrespective of whether your device is a barometric or not and allow users to be able to manually correct max height/height gained.

  • Bring back the weekly log for all activities (chart with the green bars) that was included on one's profile page in previous versions of the app

And add total time trained (underneath distance total) into the Training Log section.

    Thanks.
