New post ideas

This is the place to suggest new post ideas.

As you know, we made some changes to our forum that will enable our small team to do a better job of engaging with you. One of these changes was controlling the creation of new posts and topics. If you cannot find a thread under which to post your comment, you can suggest a new post idea here.

Please make sure to 'upvote' the comments below that you'd like to see as individual topics.

How to format your new idea and/or feedback:

Feedback that is actionable and constructive is most effective. When sharing, please consider the following when framing your thoughts:

  • If you have a new idea, it's helpful for us to understand why that feature is important for you and the value it will bring. For example: I want __. It will allow me to do ___. The reason that is important is because of ___. An example of when I needed that was ___.
  • Specific examples and details that illustrate the problem/confusion you are experiencing. For example: When I do ___, then ___ happens and that is not ok because ___.
  • Screenshots that help visually illustrate the problem. For example: Here is a picture illustrating my point ___ from above. See how ___ is doing ___?
  • An explanation of why this is important. For example: This is important to me because ___.
  • If you propose a solution, an explanation of how that solution would help you and why that is important. For example: I think a ___ would be great because then I could see ___. This is important to me because I have to ___.

If someone has already suggested the same idea as you, you can help us quantify the demand for the feature or improvement by upvoting the original comment. To upvote, click the up arrow on the right-hand side of the comment.

  • I actually suggested this several years ago. I have different max HR for different sports, but Strava only recognizes one setting. Please change this, so I can see an accurate Relative Effort score for running and for biking. Garmin already does this, but when it relays from my garmin device to Strava it disappears, as Strava only allows for one max HR.

  • I want you to add obstacle course running (OCR) as activity type. It will allow me to track my OCR/survivalrun separate from my normal runs. OCR trainings consist of intermittent rubbing and exercises so now I am choosing hike as activity but that does not show the ideal metrics and it does not track the effort correctly. The reason that is important is because of the fact that I do both running and OCR trainings each week. Also in a general sense OCR is getting more and more popular and more accepted as a sport on its own.

  • "Bulk Export" have all your photos, but no other information about them.

There is no information about the activity they are linked to, photo timestamp, etc.

Currently, Bulk Export outputs a directory with thousands of photos, with random filename, with no metadata and no relation with activities. That makes these photos kind of useless... no way to search or discover dates/times, no way to discover which activities they are related to.

I propose adding a CSV file with the following fields: Activity ID, Photo filename, Photo timestamp, Photo sort order inside activity, Photo highlight (boolean), Photo GPS coordinates

  • Hello,

I would like to have an option to filter on/off the feed based on whether I gave kudos on a workout or not. For example if I check "Kudos feed"(or whatever it will be named) to show only activities I haven't given kudos to(so not yet seen).

Another suggestion is please make activity search to not be "match whole word" so to be able to search activities using just a chunk of the word, for example searching for "test" to return the results both for "test" and "testing", "testings" etc.

    Thank you!

  • Hi, I am a diver, need "Diving" as an option.

It's important to me because I love my sport, and I think it would be great to connect with other divers, because they would then be differentiated from other swimers (I am currently registered as a swiming). I can not upload any diving activity from my diver commputer (for now it is Garmin) , so I can not be able to get whole picture of my trenings and places.

I think it would make it easier for other divers to discover new places to go, which is always the goal!

I really like Strava nonetheless, and I realise this is a nice request.

    Thank you!

  • Hola,
    Gracias.

  • There should be a separate topic for watch-related suggestions (e.g. Apple Watch).

My specific suggestion (following your format) is:

    • I want to control the activities that are available in Strava on the Apple Watch. It will allow me to quickly find the activity I am interested in without scrolling through many activities I will never, ever do (e.g. Velomobile or Hand Cycling). This is important because the watch screen is quite small and it’s difficult to scroll through a long list, find, and pick the correct item. This is important for me every day since I log all rides from my watch.
    • I think a Strava configuration option within the iPhone Watch app would be great because then I could control the activities listed on the watch. This would be much more usable than having configuration options on the watch itself, since it is a one-time setting and the iPhone screen is bigger and more usable for such settings.

  • Is Strava supposed to be a fitness tracking app or just a triathlon sport (run, bike, swim) app? I'm assuming the former since it lists many other activities such as hike, walk, weights etc.

One of the most basic expectations would be that the user can see their monthly, or at least annual totals for each activity. I can't believe that is a very difficult function to add. it doesn't make any sense to me to even offer any other activity beyond run/ bike/swim without doing that

  • When viewing graphs in the app (e.g. for Ride Analysis, but really anywhere there is a graph), it would be really useful to be able to switch to landscape orientation, to show more detail in the graph.

  • For the Route Builder, I want a feature that would allow you to create "landmarks" on your user base map. These landmarks are different from segments, as they're a point and non-linear. They would exist as a layer you could toggle on and off, and edit overtime. This feature would allow users to easily create routes that connects these landmarks -- breweries, cafes, scenic vistas, parks, interesting buildings/properties, etc. This would particularly useful for the Cycling community. The landmarks would exist on a user's base map - similar to the "starred" function in Google Maps. The landmarks would be Private by default, but users could make them Public and/or share with other Strava Followers.

This would be a valuable feature as many users, such as myself, already build routes that connect landmarks - but this feature would make it easier, rather than having to remember and/or manually search for the landmark. The landmarks would just exist when you open up Route Builder.

For instance, this feature would have been helpful when I was developing a bike ride for friends connecting different breweries - or when I developed a bike ride for my club that connected  several interesting scenic vista points, resupply point, and a cafe for a mid-ride bite. This would enhance the social and community aspect of Strava.

  • Exporting rides tagged as #commute would be a welcome addition. Linking to terraquest or similar would help riders with bike commute programs as an incentive to ride.
    Does Metro do this?

Very good idea. I see friends more and more subscribe to Komoot because of this feature (and other). Also local gravel ride organisations, they all use it to post their GPX files etc.

  • Hello Strava,
It would be a helpful feature If I could add a comment to my weeks. I could not hit my weekly training target because I felt sick. (a simple comment next to each week would be beneficial, so I can see why)

    Thanks,

    Dom

  • Having the Strava Global Heatmap as a map layer in Caltopo would be so helpful when planning new routes.

Strava's route builder isn't always helpful and Caltopo is a a more powerful tool. But I wish I could access the Strava global heatmap as a map layer in Caltopo.

This would help me when I design routes that can reference the heatmap.

I know this requires a collab with Caltopo, butI think it would be worth it! :)

  • I really like the private notes addition to activities.  It is making Strava much more of a one stop shop for logging training.

I would like to see a way of seeing all of my private notes in one easy location (eg. training diary) as opposed to clicking on each activity to see my training notes.  An effectively organized, filterable training diary would help me remember key takeaways from each activity so as to improve my valuable training time, without necessitating the time consuming process of having to scroll through old activities to find the notes from each one.

Thanks so much for your help and Happy Holidays!

  • 1mi splits

on the garmin and apple watch's activity app, both will display splits in 1mi increments and tell you you average and max for each mile.

it is in a  list format, not graph.

I wold like to see this app do the same.

  • I want the ability to restrict visibility to activities to some individuals instead of all. Example, if I only want a single person or group of people to see today's run, but not all followers

  • Hi

Not sure where to post this but felt compelled to post it somewhere.

I have used the free version for a long time and really enjoyed it. I have always wanted to pay Strava something for the service but cold not justify $7 a month for the full version for my once a week ride tracking.

Pushing me to the full version by diluting the free version will only cause me to abandon Stava altogether. I simply want a sensibly priced subscription that gives me access to the free features I used to have.

Thanks Strava for the great app, but please fix you pricing models.

    Cheers

  • Hey,

Not sure if it fits here but:

    1. I would love to see mountaineering and/or alpinism as a sport mode. I believe hike and rock climb don't cover what many of us are doing in the mountains.

    2. I set laps on hand while climbing/mountaineering. On one tour usually 2-5 laps (point of interest, top of the mountain or climb, end of tour).

Is there a way to see lap totals (lap 1 + lap 2, lap 1 + lap 2 + lap 3 etc) so we don't need to calculate on hand? It is already included in some other apps (Sports Tracker etc).

And a big thank - my Fenix 6 pro is a great tool. Love to use it.

    Merry Christmas and active 2022,

  • Adding Dog Sport Category for those who do dog powered sports such as dryland Canicross, Bikejoring, Scooter, Rig.

I want to see this option added to the activities able to be selected. It will allow me to do my sport in its correct category as opposed to selecting the usual ones of Trail Running or Mountain Biking. The reason that is important is because of skewed times and results due to the dog assisting dog sport enthusiasts on this app, an example of when we needed that was the activities being flagged and times deleted by others on segments of trail - they know we have dogs assisting us and see it as cheating. This is not okay because we deserve to have our times recorded and identified in their own category, as not to skew results or bother actual trail runners and mountain bikers with their KOM results etcetera.

This is important to me as the South Australian Representative to The Australian Sleddog Sports Association, I am passionate about advocating for this sport here and globally. It is not going anywhere as the weather destabilizes, the dryland activities such as running and biking with dogs increases in popularity compared to snow and sled races... we wish for recognition and understanding from the other activities and athletes in those communities as not to erase our results for being skewed or cheated.

  • My suggestion would to include an ‘On This Day’ daily post as part of your home feed.

As a paying subscriber and general stat lover, I’d be very interested to see where and how well I was running one year vs five years etc

  • I know others have posted on this as well, but I think it would be a LOT of fun if we could post VERY short video clips as part of our uploads. Like max 5 seconds. If the uploader could also just randomly pick the segment of the video if I try to upload a 2 minute video that would be awesome (eliminating editing).

    Thanks,

    Ian

  • There would be awesome if you could add dogsport activities due to respect for the other activities like running, bike, xc skiing and so on. Just like Zahra suggest.
Normally the leaderboards get crushed when people use dogs. Then the people using dogs get flagged and others on the leaderboards gets irritated

  • I track my commutes on strava.  I can't find a way to see how many I have done this year.   It seems it would be easy enough since I have marked them all as commute.   Please allow this.

  • One need, in our STRAVA clubs we can have weekly ranking but yearly ranking would be a must to compare each other activities volume on a longer period.

  • Cumulative graph of your activities

This should be an easy one to get a more general sense of how active you were during the weeks. Now you have a weekly graph per activity. You can scroll though them but you never get a feeling if you were active enough since there are weeks were you might bike more instead of doing crossfit, run less because you've had an injury but do a lot of specific workouts instead, or in my case, jump on my gf's indoor bike because in quarantine with covid...

    This is the current view:

And i'd like to suggest the following "stacked" view as an extra option:
