  • For what it's worth, I like the way the activities are grouped right now. I like being able to see "areas I've covered on foot" (the "Run" option).

  • Haven't figured out how to make a comment.  Please advise. Perhaps Chrome doesn't work?

In any case, I'm wanting Tennis to be an "activity".  As a former college level tennis player, much of my serious workouts involve playing and/or drilling for tennis.  My calories are usually between 700 and 1100 for an hour or so.  So it's important that I be able to distinguish and not gereralize it to be a standard "workout".  Thx and sorry for the possible wrong posting place.

  • The new heatmap interface is excellent, and great improves the experience of building and customizing heatmaps. However, once the heatmap is created, there is no way to share this heatmap with friends! My favorite feature of the old heatmaps is to show friends (especially those without Strava accounts) just how far I've explored, and now this functionality is gone.

Please bring back the option to share heatmaps to friends, even to guests who don't have Strava.

  • Hello Walter, there is a way to share your heatmap with friends using your computer. See my profile and click on the first image of my heatmap to see my result. On the white section above the map, right click with your mouse and scroll down to web capture. Click on capture area. Draw your area by cropping the map. Click on markup capture. Click on Save on the upper right of the screen. It will save to whatever folder you chose for downloads on your device/computer as an image. Then add the photo to an activity. If you want it to be the first photo posted, then use the latest activity. Photos are posted in chronological order. Hope this helps. I got to this page because I have an issue with the heatmaps that I will suggest to Strava.

  • Heatmaps are excellent showing the frequency of activities but the activity clusters show numbers that are inaccurate or lacking. It would be nice if the program you use to generate the numbers were adjusted such that more clusters were posted. I’ve made roughly 8 rides out to the ocean and the heatmap shows the paths taken accurately but no cluster is shown. I’ve made roughly 6 rides out to New Jersey but no cluster appears. The program you made to generate a ride to a cluster is figured from the closest from the start point meanwhile to be more accurate it should be figured from the furthest from the start point. This explains why I have no cluster south of Manhattan on my heatmap. I hope this feedback is helpful. Thanks

  • Hi Dean Dawson! First, thank you for helping a fellow athlete with steps to share heatmaps with others! We love seeing athletes support each other in our forum space. Second, we really appreciate your feedback on the addition of activity clustering by number to the existing heatmap functionality. We will pass this suggestion along to our product team for future consideration!

  • Hey dan bartell! Thanks for providing your feedback and suggestion of adding a more detailed selection of heatmap activities, such as Tennis. For reference, we currently categorize your personal heatmap into 4 categories:

Ride: Ride, Handcycle, Wheelchair, Skateboard, Velomobile, EBikeRide
    Run: Run, Walk, Hike, RockClimbing
Water: Swim, Kitesurf, Windsurf, WaterSport, Sail, Kayaking, Rowing, StandUpPaddling, Surfing, Canoeing
Winter: AlpineSki, IceSkate, BackcountrySki, NordicSki, Snowboard, Snowshoe, WinterSport

You can read more about this here: https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/216918467-Personal-Heatmaps

However, we will definitely share your suggestion with our product team!

  • Amaury: Although taking a screenshot can be a workaround for sharing heatmaps, it would still be good to have a better way to share heatmaps with others, and I don't consider screenshots to be a viable long-term solution. In the previous version of heatmaps, you could just copy and send a link to a friend, and they would interact with the heatmap the same way I could. This is nice, because sometimes I want to show a friend my entire heatmap and allow them to explore the map, not just a small portion of it that fits in a screenshot.

    Thanks for the consideration

  • Is it possible to allow for pre-Strava rides to be uploaded simply so these can be included in Heat maps - it doesn't seem possible to change the date when I upload a ride and it would allow me to record all my previous rides that I have data for.

  • I love the strava heatmap, really easy way to see the places you've been. It would be great if there was a link from the heatmap to the actual activities being shown in that area of the map. I was trying to find rides for a friend who's going to lake annecy in the summer, but searching the activities wasn't finding them. So i went to heatmaps and I could see them beautifully on the map, but there is no link from the map to the activity, which would allow me to download a GPX for my friends to follow.

  • I love the personal heatmap feature. Helps me spot new roads and paths to fill in! However my personal heatmap is incomplete. There are runs and rides that are completely missing (all set as viewable by everyone) and others that have sections missing. They are not all from a particular time period, but seemingly fairly randomly missing from as recently as a few weeks ago to right back at least to 2013. Is there a way of forcing the heatmap to update all activities?

  • Peter,

Toward the top left of the screen in heatmaps make sure you set it to All-Time and not for a specific year. The page opened for me for year 2018 which is when I first signed up here. Scroll to the top and find All-Time.

My places traveled are accurate on the heatmap but the cluster numbers are way off. I hope they make adjustments to the clusters which I addressed in my earlier post.

  • Does anybody know how the heatmap is generated. I have uploaded a lot of activities via file upload, but they do not appear on my heatmap (even though they are now in all other lists and graphs). Any reason for that - should I just be patient and wait for some batch processing going on at the end of the week or month?

  • The visibility of activity tracks on my personal heatmap vary greatly depending on which device recorded the activity. For example, activities uploaded from a wahoo cycling computer are more visible than ones uploaded from a phone or satellite communicator. I suspect that the boldness of an activity track depends on the frequency with which points were logged by that device. This can be misleading when viewing the heatmap, and cause certain activities to be nearly invisible. Ideally, each activity should appear equally, regardless of which device recorded it.

  • Hi Cory Pomerantz! Your personal heatmap will show stronger visibility in areas that you frequent the most - regardless of recording device. I hope that helps!

Hey @Michael B. ! Your heatmap is generated by the activities you upload and the areas you visit most frequently. However, I have opened a support ticket for you so that we can take a look at why you are not seeing your heatmap generate any data at all.

  • I enabled the map view in the Android app to show my personal heatmap but now I'm unable to 'unview' the heatmap overlay.
It tells me 'no heatmap available yet' when trying to disable it, although in the map the heatmap is clearly visible.
    How to disable this properly?

  • I can't find the right forum to post this, so I'm posting it here.

The "Gradient Map" style of the Stat Maps on an activity currently has a Green-to-Red gradient for the gradient legend. Ie, Red indicates a steep climb, and Green indicates a steep descent.

Can I suggest you use a different set of colors? The base map itself often has green in it already (parks, nature areas, trail areas, etc are all green on the base map), so the green descents just blend into the background of the map.

The gradient map is a cool idea, but I never use it because it makes the map very difficult to read.

  • Please integrate the own heat map in the Recording map of the strava app (iOS is preferred) so if you are out with bike you could see where you never been.

    best regards

  • Hello shakir fateh this is currently possible from the Strava app on iOS. From the activity record screen, tap on the circular button near the bottom right with the layers to see other layer options for the maps. You can enable your personal heatmaps and filter them by activity, year, and more. Hope this helps!

  • I think heatmaps are great.  They help me spot potential roads and routes to try.  But they could be even better if they somehow showed and accumulated based on your direction of travel.  I am sure that there are a number of lovely roads and routes hiding in my heatmap if Strava helped me remember which way I travelled.

  • Whilst browsing my personal heat map I noted some rides/routes in northern Italy which I don’t recall ever doing (I have only ever driven through Italy). They look like great routes :-) but there doesn’t seem to be a way to click on the route and link back to an activity or to find out where that data came from? is there a way of deleting these or finding out why I have some random routes on my personal map? Hope you can help. Other than that it’s a really great feature and like others it’s a fantastic tool to review where I have been.

  • Earlier this month I lost the ability to see my personal heatmap on my android app. I didn't change any settings and it worked perfectly before. The heatmap also works on desktop. Everytime I press the option to generate my heatmap, it says it isn't available yet

  • I have a problem with the personal heatmap on my smartphone. It was working fine in the past but then I disabled it to save mobile data. But now I can't enable it again. It tells me that my personal heatmap is not available yet.

On the website it is working without any problem.

  • Please would you add walking and hiking to the personal heatmap. Walking is a huge part of my training and activities. Ultra runners often have walk sessions and there are long distance walks and hikes and events. At the moment, if I want to see a walk on the heatmap, I must record it as a run and then add in comments that it's a walk. Not ideal. This must be a really easy feature for you to add. Thanks

  • Jake Boehm Andreas S

We are aware of this issue regarding personal heatmaps not displaying on some Android devices and are working on solving it as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience.

We've received reports from other athletes who are experiencing the same issue that if you quickly record an outdoor activity that requires GPS with the Strava mobile app, upload it, and then delete it, the issue may sort itself out. We cannot guarantee that this solution will work for everyone but it may be worth trying.

If you continue to experience the issue, could you please send a bug report from your mobile device to our support team so our engineers can take a closer look?

To get a bug report directly from your device, do the following:

    1. Be sure you have Developer Options enabled.
    2. In Developer options, tap Take bug report.
    3. Select the type of bug report you want and tap Report.
    4. After a moment you get a notification that the bug report is ready
    5. To share the bug report, tap the notification.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to open a support ticket.
