Tag a friend and add them to an Activity
I have only been using Strava for a couple of weeks, so this is a beginner question. A friend and I are following each other on Strava already. We ran this afternoon, but only he recorded it in Strava. I am trying to find out if it is possible to "tag" me in that run so it will be a part of my profile and stats?

Tag a friend in your activity
Follow the instructions in the article linked below to tag a friend in your activity whether or not they are already on Strava:

I came here looking for this same thing! Cell phones don't always get the best GPS reception and because of it my riding partner doens't use Strava much...allowing me to tag him on our rides could get him on the site more.
FYI - I just submitted this as a feature request.
Just heard back from their customer support. There is currently a roundabout way to do this, although I agree, it should be much easier to just tag someone. Here is what he suggested. Have the person you run/cycle with export his own GPX file from the Actions menu at the activity page. Then he can forward the GPX file to you for you to upload.
I want this feature so bad. On a group ride, which I most often do.. it would be so efficient for one person to track the ride and then tag participants so that the ride shows up on our feeds as well. Looking at my stava feed now you would think I never rode because Im never the one recording. Very annoying!
I would also like to see this feature.... it's available on inferior sites like runkeeper ect....
me to
This would be a great feature!! I did a hike with a friend today, and my GPS must have been bouncing around. When we finished the hike, mine was showing 15.2 miles, and hers was showing 8.9 miles (which is more accurate). In this case it would have worked better if I could just use the same track as hers.
I agree, adding a friend, which could allow them to put in their own time on the same course would be very usefull! My brother and I did the same course a couple different times but with only 1 GPS working.
It would be nice to hear from the developers about this issue. Had the same problem the other days. Told my buddy..."of course you can tag yourself, don't bring your GPS". Apparently I was wrong
I would really like this feature as well! My boyfriend always records our races and its not the same to manually enter the stats on my own profile. You lose all the interesting details of altitude, pace, etc.
The same thing happened to me "Told my buddy..."of course you can tag yourself, don't bring your GPS"". I mean if can tag himself does it mean we will have the same data? (pace, moving time etc..)
It would also save space on the Strava servers if users could share one ride instead of uploading multiple copies of the same data to the servers. So there should be a financial benefit for Strava to implement this.
Hello everybody, i read your comments and everything have been told, we all wait for this but why this FAQ hasn't any best answers from strava support? could they just confirm that there is no way to add a friend on a run or ride ?
I 'm sure that a saw profil linked to an other on a run on strava but perhaps my memories makes mistakes..

yep
Same here. Just had to use the round about way. It should be easier.
Somewhat related, I'd like to be able to tag someone in a comment to a ride, especially if they weren't on the ride. E.g. "Hey @Bill Smith, we could have used your help on the ride tonight."

How could you tag someone that isn't a strava user and haven't chosen to create a strava account or link their Facebook account? You can add tags to your Facebook friends when you share the ride/run on Facebook.
I also think it's wrong to share your data generated on your device with someone else even if they are riding next to you. They aren't going to be riding next to you exactly and what if there's ancillary data like heart rate or cadence, theirs isn't going to match yours. I rode in a fast group once where I got about 1 second slower each segment than some of the guys in the group. I was there hanging on quite happily not getting dropped but my data said I was a second behind on most segments. Some of them got top ten trophies and I got none and ended up 17 or so, so how can there data be relevant to me as I clearly didn't quite make the grade despite being in the group motoring along.
Get a cheap phone and use it yourself to generate your own data.
I thought the thread was going to talk about where you did go out with someone who is on strava but didn’t automatically link the two activities together because of bad or inaccuracies in the data. I’ve had this happen before.
Also you go out at rush hour and you end up being linked to peoples rides that you don’t even know who they are and don’t even remember following them or being followed by them.
Matthew: Re-read my post. The other two people I ran with are strava users.
if you run or bike with another strava user and they don't happen to record the ride being able to add them manually would be great so they don't lose out, although i suppose they'd get your exact stats even if they were in front or behind the whole way....
I just started using Strava at the beginning of this month and half the rides I've done have been with my brother. He decided to get on here too so it would be nice if I could tag him in the rides we've done together.
This would be a really useful feature
