More flexible Custom Heart Rate Zones

Hey Strava peoples. Can I suggest an improvement to your premium analysis features? It would be really really nice to have more customization of my heart rate zones. Five zones with no gaps allowed is limiting. I'd love to see:

1. Support for more zones.
2. Support for gaps between zones.

For example, my coach laid out six zones for me: Z1, Z2, SFR, Z3, Z4, Z5. I don't really care about the names; it's fine with me if what Strava displays as "Z3" is really my SFR zone and "Z4" displayed is really my Z3. But you see I have no slot for my Z5 because Strava would need to display "Z6." (However, as a bonus, it would be great if I actually could name my zones as I wish.)

Also, I have gaps that I want to avoid. For example, my SFR stops at 160 and Z3 starts at 168, meaning there's an 7-beat gap between zones. So it would be great if I could define both the start and end point of each zone, independent of the other zones. What do you think? Can your product guys build it? I'd be really grateful if you could pass this feedback to your product managers for consideration.

  • Just started my premium 1 month trial. No custom HR zones is a deal breaker for me. My zones are very tight and I use Joe Friel's 7 zones. As an example, TrainingPeaks has a drop down with about 10 different HR zone templates to choose from (Joe Friels 7 zones around threshold HR is one of them), or if still not happy you can custom enter as many zones as you want. Please please add custom HR zones in an update and I'm definitely signing up for a 12 month membership

  • +1 - One of my HR zones (lab tested) is "too small" for the sliders. Please modify the custom HR system to allow for smaller zones.

  • Damn, I can't believe that Strava has released premium training plans and there is no support in the interface to manage training sessions. :(

  • It's never going to happen. This poll/post has been up for too long. It's obvious they are more focused on social media/facebookish updates than stuff that actually benefit individual training.

  • I agree, the heart rate adjustments on Strava will never happen. I posted here years ago, and I've been premium since it was first offered. I doubt I'll renew, as I no longer see the benefits. For that I have Training Peaks.

  • I agree I would like see more flexibility as well. I currently use six zones 1, 2, 3=Tempo, 4=Sweet Spot 5=Threshold and 6=VO2max. In addition to Strava I am also using Training Peaks now, they allow for 6 zones or even more if you want to add more.

  • Its an old thread but I second this, absoluteley!

Just enable or implement the British Cycling Heart Rate Zones, its 7 zones (0-6)

  • I agree a more flexible way of defining heart rate zones is needed.  Gaps and more than five zones would do it.
