Allow me to tag Runs as 'with baby jogger'

NB if you do want this feature added, please click the "upvote" so that the people at Strava will be able to judge its relevance!

So, I recently started using Strava.

These days, my time to run coincides with the time that I take care of Tisa, our 10-month old daughter. Luckily, ever since we have purchased a jogging stroller these two things are possible to combine. To a certain extent at least.

While I really enjoy running with the 'jogger', it is not exactly the same as running. Of course. You're pushing a stroller, you can't really use your arms, or run at full stride. Likewise, running with a jogger makes you less 'agile', so crossing streets, or moving onto and off the sidewalks causes your speed to drop to zero. And I may be working my butt off pushing the jogger up even a slight hill, but still I will not be able to match the speed of the person who just started running last month. Naturally, this is reflected in speed, and therefore, my ego starts to complain.

I think adding 'run with baby jogger' as an activity on Strava could be welcome for people like me. For three reasons (from least to most important):

  1. it will do some justification as to why my splits are twice as slow as they used to be.
  2. it will allow me to compare my times against other 'baby joggers', somewhat like the age groups.
  3. it will let me explore where other 'baby joggers' go for their workouts, allowing me to discover new routes that are baby-jogger-friendly.

I realize the demand for this feature could be very small. But who knows, perhaps you have already received more of these requests. And I could imagine it would be relatively easy to incorporate into the Strava platform.

That's it.

With kind regards, Maarten

  • Please add being able to record running with a buggy. This would be a great feature.

  • Absolutely agree to having running buggy as an option to differentiate runs. Especially as my local parkrun is so hilly!

  • Come on Strava, why is it so hard? It's such a simple fix and would make tracking buggy runs vs solo run so much easier, not to mention my pbs.
I first started buggy running while on maternity leave and it saved my sanity. And being able to say you ran X no of buggy.miles a year is something people would be very very proud to see. Give it a go and see how tough it can be!

  • I suggest we get on twitter and shame them into action. It seems that's an effective way to get corporations to "engage positively with their audience." https://twitter.com/alexdecordoba/status/1092887590930239488

  • I couldn’t agree with this more. If you do both buggy and non buggy runs around the same routes there is no way to differentiate and track your progress. If Strava were to support this it would help promote this method of activity to busy parents and encourage more people to get active.

  • Could this go on the `Run Type`  drop down

    Race

    Long Run

    Workout

    Buggy run

  • Any updates on this? I love both the "gear" option and Run Type option. I'd really like to be able to track how many miles I do with my kids. I just went through and manually calculated it but there has to be an easier way...

  • This feature was requested nearly 6 years ago and still nothing. Please?!

  • I have now been running with a buggy for 4 years. My occupant wont want to come with me soon, but for now she will occasionally agree. She weighs 3 stone. Pushing the buggy is significantly more effort than running alone. I still think a buggy running feature would benefit many, many people and would be useful to so many people.

  • Yes, I agree with the other poster -- I will not consider paying for Strava until a stroller option is added. Many of my runs are pushing my toddler in a stroller and the data is pretty useless if I can't differentiate. I'm pretty disappointed that Strava isn't considering adding this function and I am looking into different apps to use.

  • Such a shame to read you aren’t even considering this Strava. Getting back to exercise after becoming a parent is incredibly hard. Being able to track that progress in a meaningful way would be so very helpful. If you can manage to let people show the trainers they are wearing on a run or say a ride is a commute, how hard can it be to tag a run as a buggy run rather than a normal run? Supporting people at a time when they are most likely to stop exercising and therefore stop setting a great example to their kids is so important. Massively recommend you take a day to read Anna Kessell’s Eat Sweat Play then reconsider how you’re helping Mums (and Dads) to exercise.

  • Ageee with all of the above. Had a great buggy run on a ‘standard’ route today but all my comparisons are meaningless. How hard would it be to at least add a tag?! Why ‘commute’ but not ‘stroller’? It’s not just the absence of the function but the attitude of the response and the lack of any engagement/ explanation that’s really offputting.

  • Just adding my vote to this feature request. I’d like to be able to segment my Buggy runs from others.

  • This would be great and surely minimal effort to add. There are ever increasing numbers of buggy at the runs I go to.

  • I love to see longstanding feature requests being taken care of. This seems like one that would be easy to implement quickly - simply the ability to tag an activity as a stroller run.

  • I have now resorted to tagging my stroller runs as 'Wheelchair', so my stats don't get so screwed up. Nice one Strava...

  • Agree with the topic. Adding an activity type, "run with stroller", for parents/people like me who do it regularly, would be helpful. Running with a stroller makes quite a difference in run times, and it would be good to track these runs separately. Thanks.

  • Hi Strava, I notice there was an acknowledgement that this feature wasn't being prioritised a few years ago.

I can see that there are now many sporting types, (eg, Handcycle, Velomobile ride, SUP and Kite surf to name a few) would you now reconsider this given the popularity of pram/stroller running?

My personal opinion is that it doesn't need to be a whole new sport, (so the leaderboard for a pram run and normal run would be the same) but activities could be viewed and tagged as being with a pram/stroller.

Hoping you can re-consider your position on this.

  • I agree this would such an easy thing to add which would make such a difference. As above I would also look at paying for premium if I could track buggy runs separately

  • As a single parent most of my runs are out buggy running with my toddler. It would be great to easily distinguish my runs a bit more and this feature would be awesome!

  • A large proportion of my runs are with my running buggy (carrying my nearly 2 year old daughter!!), especially now marathon training has begun. I’d LOVE to be able to select this a variant activity of running! Come on Strava, move with the times!!!

  • I have just finished my first run with a pram and was surprised to find no seperate option for this when I uploaded to Strava. Running with a pram is completely different to running without, it cannot be compared to a "normal" run.
I've seen the official response to advise that it is not in the pipeline to be added but there is no reason why, can Strava explain please?

  • Great addition to our community space. Thanks for sharing all your comments and votes. Interestingly, this concept has previously been proposed by parents who work at Strava.

With our large backlog of other features we're developing, I think it's a little unlikely this project will be prioritized this year. However, all your comments and votes help.
