Ability to Remove Segments from an Activity as a "Thumb down" or "Opt Out"

The basis of this request is for a feature, similar to hide, but that allows a user to completely opt out of a segment. If you can "star" a segments as a favorite, then it should also be permitted to opt out, without forcing one to ride elsewhere.

The reason for this request, is that segments are constantly being added and everyone is subject to them. They saturate popular routes, and those segments can over lap, intersect, be virtual duplicates, segments within a segment, and so on. A popular weekly ride in my area of 43 miles has no less than 24 segments (more added this year), and literally every single mile of the ride is covered by one or more segments. Popular climbs in the area, have more segments than you can keep track of for just a single climb.

I appreciate that I can star segments, then go to a single location to view those efforts. However, I would also like the ability to "thumb down" segments that are not in my interest. I'm never going care about them, I'm never going to work to improve my position on that leader board, I just don't want it to not exist on my rides. So an option to "Opt Out" is the best solution for this. I pick and choose what races I want to race, and can voluntarily drop out of a race if I so choose, even mid race. There is no reason I shouldn't be able to identify segments on my rides I don't want to be included in.

The bottom line is, (because people just ignore the suggestions Strava offers when creating segments) Its only fair that if there is no limit to how and where segments are created, I should be able to say, "No Thanks" I do not want to participate here, don't include me on the leader board for that segment, I choose not to compete for this KOM. Period.

See the attached. When I do this climb, I pay attention to a single segment. Its a climb, so from the bottom to the top is all I care about. I want to completely opt out of the other four segments that are ultimately meaningless for training or competition.

  • I'd like to opt out of public segments too as I have an electric bike and have knocked my daughter off QOM who races. I am over 200lbs and 55 yo but still want to see my results on created segments. Like Eric said above too many are being created and made public and this will get out of hand in time. I don't like people thinking I am a whizz kid when in fact I am cheating  on an electric bike but at the same time your friends and family can see where you've been. There must be a way of hiding those segment results but be able to leave them when riding an ordinary bike

  • Any update on this.

I'd like to remove myself from all segments without having to make my rides/runs private. I just don't want to be a part of any KOM ladders.

  • +1 for opting out of all leaderboards. Individually would be fine... But ultimately, I don't ever want my effort to show up on a leaderboard, EVER (too embarassing) -- But I do want my runs / rides to be public so my friends can see.

  • I think this is a great idea. My gps watch doesn't give the most reliable tracks and finding myself at the top of a leaderboard with the suspicion that I didn't earn it, isn't very nice. It'd be nice to be able to opt out of being on a given segment leaderboard.

  • Another vote for 'Opt Out' of all segments. I understand that those of us not interested in segments are really not the target market for Strava. Maybe time to look elsewhere??
