Speed graph for Runs needs more smoothing

The free, UK based "FetchEveryone" website has relatively recently introduced a fabulous way to smooth out the pace graphs from runs uploaded from gpx files.  They make the pace graphs readable and useful in a way which they simply aren't on Strava at the moment (and never have been).  My pace on a run simply doesn't switch around so rapidly.  I've attached a pic comparing the same run "smoothed" by FetchEveryone and the unsmoothed version that Strava shows.  I can tell you (having run that last night) that the top graph really does represent how I ran it!

  • The only downside to smoothing is that you won't be able to determine if someone is cheating by using http://www.epomyride.com/.  For now, the only apparent way to spot cheaters is this: http://www.scarletfire.co.uk/how-to-tell-if-someone-used-digital-epo-to-cheat-on-strava/.

  • That's only relevant if the way the front end operates is to prevent the "unsmoothed" chart being displayed, or if (perhaps) the feature was to allow individual athletes to view a smoothed graphy, but perhaps let the public or followers view only to show the original data.  The beauty of the way that the Fetch site works is that it allows the smoothness to be customisable - and that way when I look at my own graphs I can get a much better idea of where my pace was going at a particular section of the run.  Spikes all over the place (which seem to be common in everybody's runs, its not a function of how good a GPS you have) make the graphs more or less meaningless.

  • Great feedback! We'll look into this.

  • I'd appreciate this too, the pace graphs for all my runs are unreadable too in exactly the same way as Matt's example.

  • ... and the problem still exists, 18 months later!  Shockingly unreadble graph, still. Come on Strava, get it sorted!

  • Nearing four years on, and still no fix. Could you please find a way to smooth out the jagged edges in the pace charts? It's unusable at this point, and there's no way I'm going to upgrade my account if you can't fix this simple thing.

  • Yes, the pace graphs on most other trackers are useful, Strava's is so bad I'm not sure why they bother.
